So what is generally considered crawlable in this case then? just 301s and 302s?
Conversely, would it be possible to hide a link by making it not crawl able? this isn't my intent, I just want to make sure I don't get jacked when acquiring new links.

A lot of the time I see companies employing a technique like this:

Or similarly with php. In an attempt to log all the clicks that exit their site from certain locations.
When google bot comes along and crawls this page, does it still understand that this page links to www.xxxx.ca?

Organic vs Places (Maps) Searches
I realize one can use the google adwords keyword tool to get rough organic search volume, but Is there a method to see how much a keyword is searched within specifically google places? That is, seperated out from the organic search?
Ideally i would like to see how often certain keywords are search for in google, v.s. in google places/maps directly.
maybe it is not possible.

Rankings csv export doesn't show local rank
Is there a way to enable this in the settings somewhere? or is this simply not an available feature yet?
Would be really great if there was an extra column in the report that shows local rank, as 93 of our top 100 keywords we track are all blended search results and a lot of the time this shows really inaccurate results because of this.

So we're redoing our reviews/testimonials page on our website right now and moving over to the schema.org format as described here:
But we would like to combine each of our reviews with a location for which it was reviewed using this:
http://schema.org/LocalBusiness
What i can't wrap my head around would be the correct syntax? is it just the first block and then the next block? or is there a way of putting the actual physical address within the review page itself?
So is this the correct way to do a page full of reviews that are reviewing various physical locations?

From what I understand, if you search for a keyword say "blue widgets" and you click on a result, and then spend 10 seconds there, and go back to google and click on a different result google will track that first result as being not very relevant.
What I don't understand is what happens when (and this happens all the time, i did it today) you click on a result go to that page, find it (not?) relevant and then get distracted, phone call, or someone calls you into another room in the office. You end up accidentally leaving the tab open all day long, and never go back to the google search. So your time on site to google is what? infinity? there must be an upper cap here? at some point they must say, ok, the user is gone, time on site = our maximum = 5 minutes?!?
Get me? any insight?

Oh thats funny! So it seems that google is judging that a lot on CTR, problem is though with that is that CTR is heavily biased by what the actual rankings are. Nobody is going to page in 5 pages looking for something, they will likely click one of the first 5 results. So in terms of local optimization, where there is an extremely heavy geographical bias towards the city center, you end up with the google suggest of:
Keyword DOWNTOWN.
this is so silly. Google is gaming it's own algo!

Hmmm...
Well my initial attempt here was to try to expand on possible keywords that I am missing out on. I feel i have been putting too much stock in google adwords' keyword tool. I have started to use the Bing keyword suggest excel tool but generally the numbers are so small in Bing/Yahoo that it is hard to get good results out of it.
Do you have any suggestions to help find more long tail keywords?

Is google autocomplete based solely off keyword search volume? Or is there some other factors i am missing here?
Here's an example:

Google adwords keyword tool results for these:

If [storage toronto cost] is the top suggestion for [storage toronto...] then why does google say it has 0 monthly searches? Why isn't [storage toronto downtown] the first suggestion? or better yet, why isn't [storage toronto prices] the top suggestion?
So either: 1) google adwords keyword tool is wrong.
or 2) google suggest isn't based on just volume??
I've run these same keywords through Bing's Excel keyword information spreadsheet query and it came back saying all keywords had 0 searches ever, except for...drumroll:
[storage toronto prices] with 7 monthly searches, once, in august, and 0 all other months.
Now i assume that bing/yahoo numbers are significantly smaller, but this does show that that the same keyword is the most popular, so in some way suggests that google's keyword is accurate. So i guess this brings be back to my confusion, what other factors is google's suggest based on, because it obviously isn't primarily search volume.
And yes, i have made sure to clear caches, and disable personalized search and search history, and tried the query in several browsers, just to double check i wasn't getting a personalized list, so we can rule that out.

What are the best article sites to submit to?
Can you submit to more than one? or do they detect that the article has already been posted on another site? Which sites do you usually use for posting articles?

Will this get penalized by google?
I had a thought recently, and perhaps it is a pretty bad thought, but i don't see the flaw in it, or how google would really detect it, so please correct me where I am wrong here.
Say we ran some sort of marketing campeign and through that campeign we created about 100 extra pages on our domain. A lot of these pages are heavily shared on facebook, twitter, google+ etc. These pages also have several backlinks here and there. Now this campaign is over and so these pages no longer seem relevant to us.
If we were to add 301 redirects to all these pages, to three different (and unrelated) internal pages (our primary targets) would this pass all the accumulated link juice on to those three target internal pages?
Or would this behaviour get penalized by google?

Primary link building for new clients, where do you go first?
When starting out with a new client, where do you look first to build links for that client? I have a lot of close friends who have small businesses with not a very huge budget for SEO and I'm trying to wrap my head around how to do a significant amount of quality link building without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?
My list so far is:
Friends / Family of the client.
Free (good quality) directories - Yellow pages, etc.
Content creation / Article publishing
Paid directories (BBB, etc)What i am wondering though is if anyone out there has some suggestions as to how to do some quality link building for a small client with a limited budget (lets say, $500).
