Do Google Fonts Slow Down Your Site?
That's depends. Visitors to your site have fonts on there computer already, using these fonts will give you the best load speed, you can look up "web safe fonts" to find these. Using non web safe fonts means downloading font objects, now wether these are downloaded from your web server or from google they still have to be downloaded, if you have a fast server it may be better to host the font objects yourself, if not you may be better downloading from google. Me myself, if I use non web safe fonts I like to host them myself, I don't like having any third part resources on my sites. Thanks

How difficult is schema.org markup
Hi Alan, I totally agree with you about the ease of editing a hand made website if they're build the right way (so the developer knows were to look). My point is mainly about code quality, if it's all spaghetti I think the price quota can be higher then with a CMS system. Just wanted to clear that up.

Subdomain links vs root domain links? Are the less valuable?
Hello calf, It's a bit of a trick question since there is no right or wrong answer - it depends whether you take a short or long-term perspective. That said, most people say Subfolder is best and this is what various Tweets and Facebook comments on a recent question on subfolder or subdomain in the Smart Insights Linked In Best Practices group showed. But you can argue each case, particularly if you look beyond SEO at branding benefits you may get from a separate domain. Here are the pros and cons as I see them. What do you think? SUBFOLDER Google will crawl new blog posts typically within days of launch Blog inherits the authority of parent site so can rank immediately for terms within posts Backlinks and social mentions generated by the content on the blog can help other contain on the domain i.e. product pages rank more highly Integrates better with main site for better user experience (although often will have a different design) Easier to track with Google Analytics - a minor point - see end of post Doesn't help generate external backlinks for which you control the anchor text, e.g. editorial links within blog copy SUBDOMAIN Maybe technically easier for some setups Has some of the benefits of subfolder in inheriting parent domain authority and separate domain in providing backlinks to main site, but... Needs to establish its own reputation through backlinks from other sites so... Will not rank as highly or as quickly as a subfolder +Info: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/subdomains-or-subfolders-which-are-better-for-seo/6849/

Does anyone have any experience with Instart Logic, and its effects (if any) on SEO?
Google likes speed! But users like speed as well! But google only punishes those who are among the slowest in their category. So you should focus on the experience of your users. Using different tools to optimize your code. Although it is google's speed tool, it is certainly not the holy grail of testing or a ranking full blown ranking factor at this time. The article you refer to is inspiring.. but written within a context. Companies that spend time and money on SEO optimization will eventualy spend time and money on speed metrics. thus the best companies com up high in google

Should I exclude prepositions in tracked keywords of moz analytics?
I agree with Joey. Most prepositions are stop words, so they may carry less weight in the search algorithm. That's not to say they aren't important. I just searched "sporting goods stores in Atlanta" and "sporting goods stores Atlanta" and got very slightly different results for each. The on page optimization suggestions are just suggestions to point you in the right direction based on keywords you entered into the tool. You should never sacrifice usability for your readers in order to satisfy an SEO tool. The tool is just a starting point.

Moz local is telling me that I don't have a Google+ listing when I actually do. What is the problem?
Yeah, Moz Local is showing that we have a Facebook page. The problem is Google+ though. It shows that we don't have a listing on Google+ and it's obviously affecting my client's location accuracy scores. We present this data to our clients. So not having an accurate report is kind of a problem. Why isn't there a way to manually link the Google+ page to our Moz Local listing? Moz Local needs to provide a way to match up the data without the address. Especially since Google wants service based businesses to "hide" their address.

Updated page not ranking.
Thank you for your response. There is clearly some great advice which I will apply. However, it's just popped up on the top page for 'mid year diaries 15-16'. Panic over But it's great that we have some other things we can now apply to the page. Thank you very much

Multilingual -> ahref lang, canonical and duplicated title content
What I know is that since almost one year Google is able to deal with duplicated content in a multilingual or multicountry environment if the hreflang is well implemented. Moreover... if you were using the rel="canonical", you were practically quitting to your Spanish home page (in this specific case) any possibility to even being present in the index, because you would be telling Google: "Don't consider this URL, but just the canonical one". This is one of the reasons why Google quit all mention of the rel="canonical" in the hreflang help pages.

Manual Removal Request Versus Automated Request to Remove Bad Links
I agree with Moosa here. When we went through this we used Link Detox to help identify the links we wanted to remove/disavow and RMOOV to send an automated email campaign. The response rate was less than 5%as I recall and usually took multiple emails if there was to be a response. This is the nice thing about the tools as they track success for you. It's also a really good idea to use a "throw away"email address,as many of these may be reported by the recipients as spam and get your email account added to spam filters. I think the personal touch thing is more for outreach. Not worth the effort here. Best!

Questions About Link Detox
Hi there A lot of this sounds extremely odd to me - I have never heard of anyone being able to expedite a disavow file and you shouldn't automate link removal requests, too much can go wrong if people reach out to you. Instead, try this: Collect your backlinks Google Webmaster Tools Majestic Ahrefs Assess your data Good links These links help your business These links are relevant to your site These links are relevant to the content they link to These links don't have spammy or low metrics Bad links These links aren't relevant to your site or content These links are part of template directories (example) These links do supply traffic to your site These links tend to have low metrics These links come from sites that look untrustworthy Neutral links Nofollow links Disavowed links Not active Prioritize your bad links What ones are you removing? Reach out to those webmasters 3 times with 4 days between each message I outlined a Create your disavow file (yes - they work) Links removed - in case they come back or webmaster misses a link Links you couldn't remove Links that requested payment Links previously in disavow file I have never used LinkDetox, but from what you described, I'm skeptical. I have used LinkRisk and I liked it a lot, you can learn more about it here. Try this manually one time through - you could learn a lot about how this all works and what to look for. I included other links in my answer to your other question as well that will help you. Hope all of this helps! Good luck! Let me know if you have anymore questions or comments - would love to help!

What day of the week should I set my campaigns up on?
I have competitors under each campaign, too. But it is limited to three competitors in each campaign, and I have a lot more than four websites I want to be able to compare. I suppose one way to get at this would be to check ranks manually every day for a week or two to get a sense of whether there is intra-week variation. I don't think I'll put forth that effort, though. Switching the one campaign to Monday would be way easier. Still, any other opinions or resources are welcome!

Is there an extra SEO benefit for linking to pages that link to you?
No, no-follow links still leak link juice, it just doesn't reach the others site., if you no follow. it would be like, I give you 10 dollars, you throw 10 dollars down the drain. Really you don't want to link away from your site, unless needed Here is an old article I wrote on page rank, old by still relevant. http://thatsit.com.au/seo/tutorials/a-simple-explanation-of-pagerank

Are Facebook ads a waste of money?
Hello Joshua, Well, I think your Facebook Ads campaigns need probably a deep study to understand what is working or not (I mean, maybe what you think is not working is not the main issue). Some quick questions in the air: What's the goal of your Facebook Ads campaigns? How much is your monthly/daily budget for this? What's your product? In London you have 37% of the population from out of the UK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_London). To be honest, I guess a lot of people in London speak both English and a foreign language (and have set this in Facebook settings), so your segmentation is wide and is including all these people. If you really want to exclude these users try this solution: Create an audience (Aud1) to target all the people you DON'T want: people who speak Polish, Romanian, Russian, etc.). Create a second audience and exclude the previous audience (Aud2) from your Facebook Ads campaigns. Good luck !

Why does one page rank while a similar page doesn't?
Hi Greg! Keep in mind that the On-Page Grader won't really tell you how likely a page is to rank; it'll only tell you how well the page follows best practices when targeting a particular keyword. On-page optimization is only so strong as a ranking signal, and is _really _unlikely to be the factor that determines rankings. It can definitely provide an extra push though! There are a couple Moz tools I'd recommend checking out to help figure this out. The first is Landing Pages, which intended to help workaround Google's (not provided) keyword data. It'll let you know which tracked keywords are most likely to be sending traffic to which pages, as well as whether keywords you're not tracking are also sending traffic (though it can't tell you which ones). The second is the Keyword Difficulty Tool, which can run a report called a Full SERP Analysis that can tell you which factors are likely helping the top 10 results for any given keyword to rank. It might provide some insight. Cyrus Shepard made a pretty great video on it here. Lastly, we've got an article here on Page Authority and how to raise it, but it pretty much comes down to "work on your link profile." I hope that helps!
