  • Alphonse it sounded like they were just waiting for the sitemap to launch. Other than that, I couldn't think of anything else to add because the sitemap should solve their issue. However, I have marked this as "Discussion" again.

  • A 200 is perfect (it just means "OK").  I double-checked and your canonicals' are pointing to the http version which is also what you want if you're not doing a 301.  Some tools will still show a duplication even with the canonicals but rest assured ... Google knows what's what. Best of luck to you as you proceed forward and glad it worked out. Regards. Dave

  • Bryan isn't wrong, but I had a quick look and I don't think Trip Adviser is using rel next/prev on those pages. They don't seem to be using rel canonical or any robots meta tag, and I didn't find the pages in the robots.txt file. I think this is a case of a big brand getting away with things a smaller brand probably couldn't do. Happens all the time.

  • Breadcrumbs are clearly useful but I would make a distintion between two perspectives: Google: breadcrumbs are strongly recommended as part of a structured data implementation in order to get a clearer picture of our site's structure. User: breadcrumbs can a be lifesaver when site structure is so deep that main navigation is not enough. I usually skip the use of breadcrumbs for very simple structures and make it a must for complex and deep structures like ecommerce sites. For those cases in between I go for the better ux.

  • I would be more concerned about the user journey than anything! If I were a user on your site and it took me 6 clicks to get to a web page I originally wanted I would get bored of the site and its content very quickly. And if you think that the content on the pages is similar chances are so will Google and it will penalise you for having duplicate content. I would keep it simple, make it easy for customer to find what they want. Having lots of content on one page is good if its written correctly and you'll see better SEO benefits from a good website structure that users can navigate around with ease.

  • Hi Kate, Thanks for your message: SPAM was identified in October 2014, so we asked our hosting provider to re-install a clean backup of the site.  We didn't have a clean offline version, so we were using automatic backups stored on the server.  We changed FTP and CMS passwords. We did this on 3 separate occasions in October, but the issue remained. In November, we subscribed to Securi.net and had them scan and clean the site.  They did this twice, but the spam remained. By January 2015, all the content keywords for the site were showing as Chinese, so we took the decision to re-develop the site on a new CMS and move hosting, as our hosting provider had provided no assistance whatsoever. The new site launched in March 2015 - we did all the 301s etc. that are required when re-developing a site. The Manual SPAM action was also applied in March. There is no user-generated content on the site. We submitted the reconsideration request on 4th of April and it was accepted on April 17th. I started to disavow the links and work with parameters to ask Google to no-index the URLs using parameters at the start of May and removed the old files from the old server on 3rd of June. At the end of August, I went through all the remaining records for SPAM URLs returning 404s and amended the robots.txt to disallow the remaining SPAM directories. I also ran the google Site:ultimatefloorsanding.co.uk search and added all the remaining SPAM URLs to the robots.txt and Google URL removal tool. I'm really not sure what else I can do. So we are thinking of starting again, but are reluctant to do so.  Is there anything else you can think of that I can do. All advice would be gratefully received. Thanks Sue WhPNH2X

  • Hey there! Daily traffic will start appearing after 24 hours. View Search > Traffic from search and change the timeframe to Daily. Once a week has been collected, weekly data will appear in the default view (weekly). Hope this helps!

  • Yes I agree Andy - many thanks for your response - can't see any logical reason - I took a look at Tripadvisor, out of interest - and although they're not using canonical tag oddly like the site I mention above, they were using the same title tags for each page of reviews (on same hotel) - which, again, doesn't seem logical - surely better if they simply add page 1, page 2 and so on to Title Tag?

  • As long as those guest posts are well-placed on respected, topical sites, that could help. You just have to make sure your contributions to those sites are genuinely relevant to their audiences.

  • Hi! It looks like you’re referring to the ‘Universal Results’ panel which shows up on the right hand side of the Keyword Rankings tab here. As you may be aware, this panel shows you if your site is ranking for that keyword in the universal results. Universal results are displayed in SERPs in the form of a pack of images, local results or video results, which is determined by the search engine, in this case Google. So when I search for 'Rank Fishkin' I see this pack of images in the results, here. Ok, back to Moz Analytics, and how you can explore your universal results further In my campaign, screengrabbed here, you’ll see that for the keywords I’m tracking in this report 6 have image results and 1 of those results is for my site! There are no local and no video results in this particular report. You can dig deeper into your universal results by scrolling down to your report and hovering over the camera (for images), places marker (for local), or film camera (for videos). This will show you more information about the results and how your site is performing, this is what is looks like when you hover over the icon. There’s some additional help on the keyword ranking guide (click on ‘More Help’ on the top right) here: https://moz.com/help/guides/search-overview/keyword-rankings I know that you’ve asked specifically about how you can work on your video performance so I’ve also dug up some additional reading. This article gives you 6 tips for optimizing videos with universal results in mind: http://searchengineland.com/2-types-rich-media-seo-plan-cant-ignore-1-big-reason-202536 And here’s another article that goes through Google Universal Results: http://searchengineland.com/google-20-google-universal-search-11232 I hope this helps to clarify! • Hi, Internal linking can be a fantastic way to build internal page authority and to give more emphasis to particular pages. In a simple way, here is how it works... -- Create amazing article related to the page you are trying to rank for -- High up in the copy, create a target anchor text that leads to the page you are trying to boost. Make the anchor text the same / very similar to your desired phrase - but make sure it makes sense. Have a read of this article over at eConsultancy. This goes through it in a lot more detail and will show you exactly what you need to be doing. I personally have had some astounding successes with this. The article you create should be better than the norm though. You want something that will get shared socially and hopefully, result in some backlinks too. -Andy
