  • I got a agree with Dan on this one. If you're 301 redirecting to non-relevant pages is pretty much worthless.  a plug-in that deals with removing products is better than a default 301 to something that's not a relevant  landing page/Product page

  • Yesterday I discovered another 200 live domains, some which are a replica of the main site, most which redirect with a 301. Should I take most of the domains offline - Google will surely think we're guilty of scraping the main website and creating spammy links to it?

  • Hi Carl! I just took a look and it looks to me like your page is working correctly? The Ayima Redirect Checker and using http://httpstatus.io/ with Googlebot as the agent, I see a 301 to a 200 on www.http://httpstatus.io/. Are you still seeing the issue in your Moz reports? I don't think you have anything to worry about, as I don't see any non-www bmirsearch.com URLs except for your expected subdomains when I do this Google search: site:bmiresearch.com -site:www.bmiresearch.com -site:store.bmiresearch.com -site:careers.bmiresearch.com -site:bmo.bmiresearch.com

  • Do you mean reciprocal linking? If there's a strong contextual reason to do it, go for it. Just like any link building tactic, however, it can be a negative when done to excess.

  • I think it is important here to note something that is a bit of a misnomer in the industry. Page Authority (PA) and Domain Authority (DA) are NOT measures of how much a page or domain will benefit you were you to receive a link from it. They are machine-learned keyword-agnostic predictive metrics for rankings. That is to say, a high DA domain or high PA domain are more likely to rank, but they are not necessarily more likely to help your site rank were you to acquire a link from that site. We know that the most important raw metric still continues to be the number of root linking domains. We also know that nearly all published link graph calculations look at metrics like the number of links per page to divide link value passed from one page to another. Subsequently, the actual value you get from a link can be wildly different than the PA or DA might suggest. I would take a different approach altogether. If you spend even a second considering whether to get a link or not because of its PA or DA, you have wasted that second. While using PA, DA, MozTrust or MozRank to sort opportunities might be useful if automated and asynchronous, you should never stop and sweat whether it is worth going after a link. Of course it is. Get that link. Go get it now. Happy link hunting

  • Hi there, I'd agree with the other comments here in that those particular tactics are not as strong as they used to be and I'd be very surprised if I saw that they were actually improving your search results. They may work for a short period of time but sooner or later, they are going to stop working or worse, they could start hurting you if they cause a penalty. I'd recommend focusing on tactics that are going to work in the long-term and not cause you long-term problems. It's just not worth taking shortcuts. I'd recommend taking a look at the Moz beginner's guide to link building: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building I hope that helps! Paddy

  • Hi Pulkit, This phenomenon, called domain crowding. You should happy your two pages coming in search results. I think your two pages appearing because location is slightly different first is mumbai and second is navi mumbai(a locality in mumbai city). First of all It is not good practice to create pages for city and every locality of the city so If you don't want to appear both pages either you can block them or optimize other page for other keywords by placing different keywords in meta title , h1 tag and web page content. • Thanks. These are good things to consider. I suppose in my case I'm primarily wanting to just find a new home for the old content since eventually I will just get rid of those websites and domain names. And then if it adds a bonus to the new website, then great! The old content is automotive, diesel truck related, which the new site is too. The difference is the brands. So I think the old readers would just like the content to be live and not be too worried about where it's hosted. And the new readership would probably find it all interesting as well...thanks for helping me think it through!

  • If the URL can be accessed via one page, there is no way Google will be considered as duplicate content. 301 redirects should certainly help avoid duplicate content profiles. But, when it comes to Google search console, it usually takes time to update things under it. I personally like the idea by CelevePhD, adding rel canonical to your finally page will also help you confirming Google that what is the preferred version and after the crawl Google will deindex the alternate URL from the index. Hope this helps!

  • If a site has high DA or PA then you, it doesn't mean it's a high authority site. Search sites that matters to you and invest your money and time there. In the end, you will be on upper edge. Hope this helps! Umar

  • Hi Michael, If you are meeting face-to-face with customers and are targeting a local market, then Local SEO would also be a pool to wade into. Here's a good place to start, unless your business model is virtual/national only: https://moz.com/learn/local Wishing you tons of luck!

  • Thanks for the feedback. I've tried both (full URL and no URL leading) and neither work. It seems to always redirect to the new "/folder-new/" but the old "/page-old/" no matter what. For example: Redirect 301 /folder-old/page-old/ /folder-new/page-new/ results in: http:///www.site.com/folder-new/page-old/

  • I'm sorry to hear that I would recommend requesting the people linking to your existing site that are using high quality powerful links to update the back link to point to your new site. the advantages of dealing with people with legitimate sites are they are much easier to find and will actually help you with these types of things. It's not the nightmare that it is trying to get a hold of a blackhat webmaster. Outside of creating a 100% legitimate website with a slightly different niche may be content, inbound marketing whatever buzzword you want to use for the very short time I hope it takes you to get your most powerful white hat links to point to your new website. Removeem.com It is a wonderful tool for finding the names and contact info of webmasters you can use it to make a polite request saying that you have a new domain and you would appreciate if they would please update the link pointing at your site. After you have taken the best Backlinks away from your existing site I would move to your new site. I would also be upfront about moving place text saying you are changing domain names in a  conspicuous location on your site. If you feel that your livelihood is being jeopardized by this I definitely can understand I would then really put 110% into creating some top-notch content and user friendly/mobile design on your new brand. When you go live you want to really have something better than what you had before. I'm sorry I don't know any methods that would be instant but I would consider using pay per click to soften the blow. I hope this is of help, Thomas

  • Hi Trevor, I started by creating my first campaign. Moz crawls these once a week so the sooner you get this setup the sooner you'll start seeing results. Next, I started asking questions, my first question, ekks almost 4 years ago! Moz is one of the best places on the internet to get solid educated answers about SEO. Though we may have seen the question before, somebody will usually point you in the right direction or give an updated response. Sean pointed out some great links. Starting out I liked going to the tool section and just playing around with tools. This gave me a feeling for what each one did and how I could best use them in my role at my company. Hope it helps and welcome to Moz! Don

  • I am confident that the pages in your persistent navigation are given more weight by Google. On each of my sites I have a sidebar that presents a categorized list of links to the important pages that I want everyone to see.  They could be there because I want them to be given attention by google, because I want them to have an opportunity to be seen by every visitor, because they are new and I want to promote them, or because they are important sales pages.  The strategies and categories are different for every site. If someone lands on your site and sees three links to other pages, what message does that send?   Nuthin' here?   If someone lands on your site and sees a great presentation of inviting topics, what message does that send.  If you want people to see what you have, don't make them dig for it.   If you have great content, get it out there and flaunt it. Some of my good friends are designers who proselytize the concept of minimalist design.  They think that I should have no more than three to five links on any page. They "tisk tisk" when they look at a site like mine.  But, each of my sites has more traffic than all of theirs combined.
