  • A month later, I did a search for nybox on Google, and I'm seeing the sitelinks in English. Did you figure out what caused the Chinese and did you do something to fix it, or did it just happen to fix iteself?

  • When Google finds more than one document (ie URL) with the same content, it has to define which of them is the representative document of the cluster. In doing this it looks at inbound link metrics, essentially, plus date of the page, pagerank and other factors. In this decision, it can be wrong, indexing a page that can hurt you indexation (consider this situation: it indexes as representative document page 2 of a listing page in descending order: new items in this category end to be at page 2 or later and are less likely to be discovered). The canonical tag can be a good solution, even if it is a hint and not a rule to Google...

  • If it'll be a couple months, a 301 makes sense. Get it fixed as soon as possible and get things setup with proper 301's and you'll be okay!

  • The linkscape is complex. Most of the time, the answer is "high quality content and many authoritative links". Other, complex times, it's not. When is it Not? I'm competing with two sites that quite simply suck for a relatively competitive keyword phrase. Neither provide useful content. Neither have much content at all (one has 10 pages). Neither have very many links. Both stuff targeted keywords into their pages, and receive high LDA scores. One benefits from a long history of being listed in DMOZ for this targeted keyword (rather than their company name), the other benefits from being part of a sizable parent company and receiving regular links resulting from various real-world resellers of their product. Neither have performed any article marketing, content marketing, or link building over the last year. How do those two sites compete with mine at all? It's not their content. It's not their authoritative links. (I'm assuming it's a mix of their high LDA, their extremely natural link profiles [with almost no linkrot over 10 years], and their ranking history. Anyway, my point is there are exclusions to the rule about content and links.)

  • Hello Everyone, I'm new here and just getting back into SEO (a little bit) after not doing anything 'myself' for a couple of years.  My question is along the same subject.  Currently my individual URLs show as: https://www.example.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=107 (dynamic responsive site). I can switch it to a static site, so the individual product pages read as:https://www.example.com/catalog/category name/product name-107.html It's still a long URL, but it would be keyword rich.  Some of my current dynamic pages are indexed, and due to an upgrade I had to do several months back, I already have some redirects (301) from my php extensions to the one listed above.  This is my long explanation to my following questions: Does having a dynamic or static site matter when ranking in search engines I already have some redirects coming my older site to this dynamic site, so I would have to make more directs from the dynamic site to my static site - is this okay to do? I'm really at a loss, a couple of years ago, I ranked 1-3 (on Page 1) on Google for all my keywords, (all White Hat work), and now I'm into great abyss of no mans land of the internet (ranked on Page 3+) Thank you for any and all help from everyone! ~Sandra

  • Had a similar situation for a competitor site; best idea is to not get jealous over their high ranking - if they are doing something against Google rules then they will get a penalty in due time - don't resort to doing the same thing for a short term benefit, it won't work out in the long term. You can always report them if you think something is wrong. Keep at it, focus on your own work and concentrate on improving where your site where you can, but don't get distracted by any black hat tactics used by competitors or you'll just join them when the penalty hits.

  • Where do you ask them to get links for you? Do you ask them to leave comments on blogs or email webmasters for a link? (if going the email route, surley most webmasters will want a chunk of change to place your link) Regards.

  • Can you tell when the pages you got links on were last cached? You can do this manually by searching for the url and clicking the 'cached' link beside the URL. If they've not been cached then they're unlikely to show up at all in any of those tools (and after a couple of months it would be a pretty poor page if it hadn't been). If it has been cached then it's a bit up in the air as to when it'll show up in WMT (or the other checkers) and even then if it's passing it's full value straight away. If it's not cached then I would point a link at it from somewhere (not necessarily your site) just to send the spiders along to it and get it counted again.

  • Thank you for your answers. As far as I can see, everything is getting crawled, but I also submitted an XML sitemap via webmaster tools. I decided to disable the cookie redirect for a few weeks to see if there are any changes in ranking.

  • The 100 link mark is no longer a valid milestone. You can see the Matt Cutts webmastertool video on this subject at : http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp#p/u/4/l6g5hoBYlf0 Hope it helps.

  • Seems to be a significant difference between 5 x 1000 and the rest. So if you want to rank with that term you should definitefely set up an extra page for that and treat that indivually. 5 x 1000 can mean everything ... The lasting 5 terms are similar and we know that the search engines use synonymes, too - therefore we should definetifely use them. Althouth I made the experience that it is really difficult to rank with all synonyms. The best would be to set up a page for each term - what probably will be very difficult.

  • I agree that you shouldn't try to get search pages indexed. Google loves clean URL's and "?course=starter" is not really a clean URL. One of the reasons why Google doesn't like this is because it's not good for the user experience. Nobody is gonna remember a url with ? and = in it. My recommendation would definitely be to change the structure of the website that every recipe has it's own page and that these recipes are sorted into categories. Then you can still use the search function so that people will be able to search and they will find their recipes. Trying to get these pages higher in Google may help in some ways, but i think it will serve you better to focus on getting pages with a clean URL structure higher in Google. This should also improve your CTR (Click Through Rate) because people trust websites more if they understand the URL. About the duplicate content issues. Search pages are not really meant to be indexed by search engines in my experience. I always no-index the search pages because of the possible duplicate content issues and they are custom pages which appear bases on what a user does. Not something i would want to get found on in the search engines. I hope I helped, if anything is unclear or you need more advice or have a different question than please let me know.

  • I recently helped my niece with her school project which involved a series of videos that give different outcomes depending on the decisions you make. This is the video: http://youtu.be/2GpRPFhbZA0 I think it was easier to spread the message as it does involve a serious issue about underage drinking. We managed to get 950 views just on the first video and almost 3500 channel views. I signed up for a Google alert for anything involving the term ' underage drinking ' . Once I had a list of sites I'd see if they suited the demographic of the video then left forum comments that were helpful about the article and left a link to the video. It may have been easier as the video isn't selling a product so people tend to be more likely to approve these kinds of comments. I also made sure i added it to as many free bookmarking sites as possible

  • Hi Haig, It seems the problem is that Google is ranking the www version of your website.  The reason why your website isn't being shown in the ranking report is because you entered it as vegashotel.com and thats what our web app is looking for in the SERPs but since www.vegashotel.com is ranking we miss it.  I do believe we have this fix in the works so it will be counted in the future but for now you will need to go into Google Webmaster Tools and specify that you want the non-www displayed. • Great advice from everyone!!! Thanks! Saibose - If I add a twitter, FB or blog feed to my site, and it updates daily, this will help the rate that google crawls my site? Does it matter that it is embeded content?
