  • Maybe it's time for some old fashioned shmoozing? Make some contacts with people that might blog about your articles, or refer to them, or simply tweet about them? The ablemag twitter account is very dry, so maybe inject some personality into it and build some helpful relationships? I also think it might be interesting to widen your net somewhat, so your target market is people seeking disability news, that's fine, but there are other people who may well blog about some of the things you write even if they aren't your demographic. It's an odd subject but people interested in body modification or transhumanism may well be interested in some of the things you write. Both of the following articles would serve as a starting point for some linkbait for that demographic: http://ablemagazine.co.uk/artificial-pancreas-in-pregnancy-promises-fewer-diabetes-deaths-and-abnormalities/ http://ablemagazine.co.uk/pistorius-eyes-2012-with-new-pb/ PS I PM'd you a few ideas, let me know if you didn't get it.

  • Thanks David, I thought that if my competitors' links were more authoritative it would have also shown in Domain MozRank, Domain MozTrust, but perhaps not. Will have a closer look. Tom

  • It all depends on what do you mean for "most important". What I suggest you is to not limit the examination of the backlinks into OSE (I imagine you are using it for competitive analysis), but to export the raw datas in .csv format and then start using some Excel magic, in order to analyse the backlinks the way you consider the most suitable to your needs.

  • The top three gainers from the farmer update was Amazon.com, eHow.com and NexTag.com. There is a pretty complete article on the visibility changes here from SELand. http://searchengineland.com/who-lost-in-googles-farmer-algorithm-change-66173 NexTag specifically is a very old property, going back to 1999.  The authority built up from being one of those older properties has to carry a lot of weight.  The majority of the losers from the farmer update are content farms, but where we see eHow survive I'd wager comes from eHow being the origin of many pieces of the content that is being farmed out. This, to me, relates to Local Search.  Sites like Localeze are the source of much scraped data that other directories use to show addresses, business categories, etc.  So Localeze as the source for this data has authority, where the individual pages that it enters data into does not have that same authority, and protection. Duplicate content can be tracked to an origin, the time the post was made, the time Google first crawled it, etc.  So in NexTag's case, being the origin for so many things, I'd say it was safe.  NexTag is also very trusted by Google, they have had a Google Shopping relationship for years because Google, and this is just my observation, but Google feels they can trust NexTag's system to deliver a viable product when their links are clicked. I'd wager also that NexTag had a much better link portfolio than the losers, so those trying to copy the NexTag model were shot down in favor of the original provider. Again, these are my best guesses based on the data.  Hope it helps. Cheers,

  • In addition to Dan's answer remember just because Google has seen the changes and taken them into consideration there is no guarantee that your rankings will improve. It can take months of optimising and tweaking to get improvements. One of my old sites took 6 months tweaking and steadily climbing the rankings until it got to number 1 for its main keyphrases - it has been there for a few years now though

  • If you have pages optimised for each of your products that you are happy with then I would consider whether there is a term that might be used to describe the group of products that people might use when searching less specifically. Is there a term that a competitor site uses? Many searchers start quite generic and get more specific when there initial search doesn't throw up any suitable results. As you have done for the product pages see which collective phrase has the best search volume/lowest competition.
