Best practices for country homepage
OZNAPPIES' idea is a good one, and the technical advice is totally sound. Here's another idea: show the English language homepage by default, but determine the user's preferred language. If your site supports the identified language, include & display a hyperlinked text-box/graphic-banner suggesting the visitor "view this site in {the user's identified language}" which links to the homepage for that language. Regarding which country gets the SEO rank for the "domain.com" - it depends on where your links come from, your overall domain authority, the page authority for your targeted page, and the geolocation factors referenced here. The same site could rank well in multiple countries, by the way. For example, this page on "diagnostic troubleshooting" ranks well in the U.S., the U.K., France, etc. However, if you have the resources to make targeted sites for each language/territory, I recommend you do that.

Yes, If you add the noindex meta tag to the page it will not be index the next time Google crawls and re-indexs the page.

Which ecommerce platform is best for SEO?
Interspire Shopping Cart. Built in SEO is excellent! (Though the support are a touch slow in a number of other areas.) With Interspire and a good domain name I get a great number of extremely good rankings on the first page of the SERPS (alongside the likes of Amazon.co.uk) for almost every one of our targeted keywords. Do not overlook this solution, or their hosted version www.BigCommerce.com NOTE: SEO 'GURU' Aaron Wall had some involvement (as a consultant?) in the SEO aspects of Interspire too.

How to Optimise Meta Descriptions
Exactly what EGOL said. Sometimes the hardest work is the most rewarding.

Fast hosting
I agree with the comments already presented. Many slow sites are that way because of how they are implemented. There are many free tools to help. Two tools that I use regularly when developing a site are YSlow and Firebug. Both are Firefox plug-ins that provide a great deal of information on the performance of a site.

SEO Faith Shaker... help!!
Just as a FYI... We have had two clients move to Word press platforms in the last month, and both had a big gain in rankings for a few days ( not sure if it was a week or 10 days, we don't check every day) but then both dropped back to where they had been (basically). Like others here, and I discuss this with clients often; don't pay any attention to major changes in rankings unless they last for a few weeks. Would you let us know what happens to your clients ranking on the word press site?

Search Traffic down 50% but rankings same?
Thanks-I based the question on the rankchecker plugin results and I always make sure to log out of google, but I usually don't rely on my own search results. RankChecker shows either the same rankings over the last 2 months or improvement but actual visiters have dropped dramatically. I still need to go through the data in the webmaster central about actual impressions and all that.

Difference in which pages Google is ranking?
I've noticed a decrease in brand-focused searches for our site, but for our actual terms, no, no changes. Entry pages have definitely switched up, however. Did your ranks end up getting negatively effected by the recent switch-ups, or are different pages literally being switched out at the same ranks?

International SEO and Webmaster Tools
Google's own guidelines say the following: If your site targets users in a particular location, you can provide us with information that will help determine how your site appears in search results, and also improve our search results for geographic queries. You can only use this feature for sites with a neutral top-level domain, such as .com or .org. Country-specific domains, such as .ie or .fr, are already associated with a country or region. If you don't want your site associated with any location, select Unlisted. I have to admit that I have never actually set the website as unlisted but instead left it up to Google to determine where to serve. So far haven't noticed any issues.

How do Maximize WordPress with 2 SEO Plugins
Hi Marcus. I agree with the previous answers. Just stick to one plugin. Besides, WP plugins use up server resources so try to keep only the really necessary. Personally I use Yoast's and works well. Make sure you have the latest version (0.4.2) since the previous one gave TONS of errors when trying (failing) to generate the sitemap xml. Yoast's plugin is particularly good since everything is integrated, so the sitemap is coherent with the canonicals and the noindex etc etc. Otherwise, you'll have one plugin dictating, say, one canonical for a page and the other plugin a different thing (hypothetically, at least) which is obviously not good. Good luck

Google local lisatings
I don't have the answer, but do have limited experience. We had a client mark the map wrong for the office address, and the places ranking fell significantly. I have to note, there were (as always) other things going on with the places account ( duplicate issues) so I can not tell you this was the problem. Certainly didn't help.
