SEO for Global Navigations
Thank you for the insight Chris. Yes I see that it works on mobile devices and iPads. When you do an SEO Audit for the navigation, is it best to just look at the code as opposed to the way prescribed in SEO Secrets (disable java and view the website)? Thanks, Shawn

Double Listing
I agree with EGOL's answer - right on. I was trained in theory in my early days that you should NEVER have two pages targeting the same keyword, similar to Ryan's first answer about Google getting "confused" about both pages and ranking neither. I've now seen in practice over the years that this isn't true and that double listings from the 1&2 or even 2-4 positions are very possible, especially for "chunky middle" and long-tail terms. Similar to how Rand and many others have been saying over the years, you do want to create the perfectly optimized page for your main keywords, fully of great content, rich media, focused CTA's, etc. But there is also a natural use of certain keywords throughout your site that occurs. There are similar but not exact pages that just happen to target the same keywords - and these often create the double listings. So following the advice from others above, what I've seen work well for double listings is to choose a primary keyword for each of your main pages, but don't worry about overlapping certain keywords among your pages - this happens naturally and you can get double listings as a result.

Is blocking RSS Feeds with robots.txt necessary?
Hi Michelleh, There's no need to block RSS feeds as they are used for discovery (Gbot). Here's a quirky fact: RSS feeds actually combat the scraper sites as they have absolute URLs which clearly link back to your site They're going to scrape your content anyhow, let's hope they choose RSS! How does G know it's an RSS feed? Let's look at some of the markup on RSS pages: <rss <span="">version
="2.0" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">

Either this or something similar will be in the HTML that defines an XML/RSS/Atom/XSL document/markup - this is easily read by Google. Not going to get too far into it but you can start reading more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS Does Google index the XML file type? **Yes. ** http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=667&q=inurl%3Asitemap.xml&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq= Does that help?

Metrics to determine the quality of a link?
Obviously you can look at PageRank, Domain Authority, and a slew of other factors, but I don't think there will ever be an exact metric to determine the value of a link.

Does Schema.org markup require a HTML 5 doctype?
Does Schema.org markup require a HTML 5 doctype? No. These are signals/data for search engines, not coding that will be rendered by browsers.

Why is here no extra section for Google Shopping
Your question also makes me realize that we don't have an area for ecommerce. It may be a bit before the categories are changed, but I will suggest both ecommerce and shopping as possible categories when that time comes.

Would this be considered keyword cannabalization?
Hi Michelle. The article you link to describes pagination issues. That is where you have a single topic whose length extends the page so you see multiple pages (page-2, page-3, etc). That has no relation to what I described, although it could be a factor with the solution EGOL shared. Keyword cannibalization happens when you have multiple pages on your site competing for search engine traffic for the same key word. That does not happen in this solution.

Www vs non www and understanding opensite
Excellent, thank you for taking the time to come back to me. (*note for the admin... just tried to reply to this via my HTC Desire and clicking this text box does not bring up the keypad on the phone. Not sure if this is a phone issue or the site not being recognised as a text box.)

Should I let Google index tags?
your are absolutely right and it's exactly what I thought. The only thing is better to do is instead of un-indexing them I'd rather set up canonical links for the tag pages if it's possible.

Cant understand Seo moz analysis
Hi Brian. Your site's analysis is correct. There are issues which need to be addressed. Try entering in the below two URLs http://www.1stclassdriving.co.uk/ http://www.1stclassdriving.co.uk Both URLs bring up the exact same page. When you use the 2nd URL (without the trailing slash), the URL is automatically changed and the trailing slash is added, which is a good thing. Next, try using these two URLs: http://www.1stclassdriving.co.uk/ http://1stclassdriving.co.uk/ Each of the above two URLs brings up your website. These are two different URLs which lead to the same page. This pattern holds true throughout your site. In short, your site is available in duplicate. You can fix this issue by making a change on your server to ensure only one version of your site is available, and redirecting traffic to your chosen version. The first step is to decide which version of your site you want to use, the "www" version or the "non-www" version. Either way is fine, but it is important you make a decision and stay consistent. For the purposes of this discussion, I will assume you prefer the "www" version since that is the style of link you offered in the Q&A. You need to modify a server setting so your decision is enforced. The method of doing this will vary based on your software and server type. If you are unsure how to do this, contact your hosting company and let them know you wish to direct all traffic from the non-www version to the www version. Once these steps have been completed, test them. Try accessing your home page and other pages without using the "www" and make sure the pages are still accessible, and show the "www". The above change will resolve your current duplication title and content issue. You may have further issues, but they wont be visible until the above matter is addressed.

Does anyone have any tips for SEO in WebSphere Portal with Lotus WCM?
Thanks for your input. It's just as I though apparently we should re-think our strategy into using the WCM servlet directly instead of through Portal. When WCM is used through Portal via the WCM portlet the content item is fetched through that WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT parameter, but the parameter itself seems less relevant to Google. I'll look into this. Thank you for all your help.
