Why does SEOMoz use Wistia? Why would you not use YouTube as well? Does Vimeo factor into the equation at all?
Phil from Distilled just weighed in on how to choose a platform for hosting video, and when you'd want YouTube versus some other options in the thread at www.seomoz.org/q/best-way-to-host-video.

What is more important, tweets/shares or traditional link building?
I operate on the assumption that the tweets will have zero value for rankings. They are simply a way to spread the word about content and hopefully that word will spread to other social media channels.... then if the content is strong enough to earn links I will see ranking value. I consider social media as a way to attract links without syndicating my content.

Local hosts for sites in foreign countries?
Hey Steve...your answer completely supports my research today. From Google: Geotargeting factors Google generally uses the following elements to determine the geotargeting of a website (or a part of a website): Use of a ccTLD is generally a strong signal for users since it explicitly specifies a single country in an unmistakable way. or Webmaster Tools' manual geotargeting for gTLDs (this can be on a domain, subdomain or subdirectory level); more information on this can be found in our blog post and in the Help Center. With region tags from geotargeting being shown in search results, this method is also very clear to users. Please keep in mind that it generally does not make sense to set a geographic target if the same pages on your site target more than a single country (say, all German-speaking countries) — just write in that language and do not use the geotargeting setting (more on writing in other languages will follow soon!). Server location (through the IP address of the server) is frequently near your users. However, some websites use distributed content delivery networks (CDNs) or are hosted in a country with better webserver infrastructure, so we try not to rely on the server location alone. Other signals can give us hints. This could be from local addresses & phone numbers on the pages, use of local language and currency, links from other local sites, and/or the use of Google's Local Business Center (where available).

Does searching for brand names really affect search results?
Hey Tim, It's not a bad idea, but i'd try to balance both options. What I mean is, I wouldn't remove your URL completely from everything... but If you do, please write a youmoz about it and let everyone know your results But yeah, it would be helpful for users if Google monitored demand for brand terms, and applied some kinda of precedence to those that have a growing demand. Be careful not to spam this yourself (I had a client try it before hiring us), because it would obviously be easy to detect.

How impactful will text at the bottom of the page be?
A year or more ago I did a project where I added a tonne of links to the bottom of the page. http://www.locazu.com/ as a result we saw significant improvements in the development of internal landing pages. But I'm not sure if this is exactly what you mean or not? If you're referring to "un-linked" content. I think just make sure you're not duplicating your H1 tags, but also that you're placing or tags around the keywords you're really hoping to optimize for that page. The content won't be as valuable if it's page bottom but you'll see some benefit if you add these attributes. Hope this helps!!

Internal Linking
As I painfully learnt this past weekend, you may want to get going pretty slowly on it. I went a bit nuts, within 80 - 100 of our archived articles pages (only inserting one link per page), with about 7-8 different terms to the appropriate pages and got heavily punished for those terms. Long story short, be very wary of what you read on the matter.

What is best practice for redirecting "secondary" domain names?
Yes, you assumptions are correct. I'm concerned with similar aliases, typo domains, etc. So the best case scenario is doing at the hosting level. What if that is not an option, and I have to do 301 redirects from the registrar level? Next best option?

What are good sites to get no-follow links from?
Hello qlkasdjfw, I think it really depends on your niche. I don't particularly like Yahoo Answers because they are super well known, and are therefore more prone to spam. I try to find not-for-profit sites, local niche resource sites, government directories (like the chamber of commerce) and some relevant social platforms (but interaction is the primary goal with these of course).

Switching to a domain name with keywords in it, is it possible to make this happen smoothly?
EGOL, I agree we have been having some server issues, and were considering switching hosts. we also could do a bit of javascript and css optimization to get load times down, we aren't as optimized as we could be in that department. As for homepage v.s. subpage, we were doing it that we because we heard that was the best way to approach multiple locations in local SEO. See here: David Mihm at SMX: http://www.aimclearblog.com/2011/06/08/so-where-are-you-actionable-local-seo-tactics-from-smx-advanced/ Muti-Location Tips Implement flat site architecture, give each site own page, make it unique, indexable The title tags with full adresses was a mistake, i admit, it was a test, because i read somewhere to do it, it didn't work out, infact it backfired in our faces and in some cases our rankings droped. not in this particular case, but in others it did. We have changed it back, but we are still waiting for google to pickup on the change.

Is use of javascript to simplify information architecture considered cloaking?
Pagination is just links. Google can follow the links. How you set up and offer your pages is important, especially for areas with a lot of pages. If you have 40 pages of content then I would recommend a structure that offers pages something like "1,2,3,...20...40". If you don't offer a middle selection then that content will probably never be seen.
