  • I don't believe that would work as the results pages display different content. I think I've got my head round this and its quite simple really, mainly an error on my judgement. We've chosen to no index the dynamically created pages, but leave the follow on so that the actual jobs still get some juice and display in Googles index. I made the mistake of assuming that by no indexing the search results this would also block the googlebot from finding the actual individual job pages.

  • Sit tight for a few days. If it still stays bad, compare your linking profile to competitors, maybe there is something shady in there (not accusing you of anything) that Google caught outside of a major update. They adjust their algorithm about 500 times a year according to a recent video, so chances are there are daily minor changes. Could be a fluke, too. We had rankings drop down from 5/6  to 10 for a week, and promptly bounce back up again without any interference.

  • I just did a measly 14 yesterday. But I'm curious to learn about the batch uploads approval process. How does Google verify and approve these? All manual review? After upload it requires phone and email etc, but then shows a message in the dashboard to 'click request bulk verification' again. I thought i just initiated that? Would it be faster to do all manually, since it's just 14? Do i need to click that link? Thanks... zTibn.png

  • I've found Wordtracker to be the easiest to get started with. You can enter in keyword phrases on their home page and get instant, actionable advice. Then, after you've made a few choices in Wordtracker, go to AdWords to compare and refine your results. However, here is a down-and-dirty way to find out high-traffic keywords: Go to Google.com and log out of your Google account. Start typing in your search terms Google automatically returns the most-searched terms while you're typing.

  • More Italian Backlinks will help ranking in Google.it for both Brand and other keywords. The difficulty is finding suitable link sources I would imagine. But if you can find high quality Italian backlink sources then that must be favourable. Cheers M

  • One way or another, you definitely want to be redirecting those pages properly. As long as you have a decent content hierarchy with proper categories this should be relatively easy to achieve through htaccess. I couldn't give you the exact code to use but perhaps this discussion on Webmaster World will be a good source. You should definitely be able to do this without adding them all manually, it just depends on how big a URL change we're talking about.

  • Good question. I think you can go either way. Assuming that I was targeting all of Nebraska, not just Lincoln, I would: Create a page targeting Nebraska and create sub-pages targeting the major cities in Nebraska. For example: Personal Injury Lawyer & Attorney Nebraska Sub page: Personal Injury Lawyer & Attorney Omaha NE Sub page 2: Personal Injury Lawyer & Attorney Lincoln NE I would then link to each page with geo-specific anchor text. Once I got the main page high on the first page, I would try to rank the sub-pages for "Nebraska" as well to get an indented listing and take up more of the SERPS. Another benefit of structuring the site this way is that if you had locations in each city, it would be very good for Google Places. However, I would only follow this page/subpage strategy if I was confident in my link building strategy, i.e. that I could get enough geo-specific links for each sub-page. Otherwise, you might be walking into a Panda-type scenario where you have what Google perceives as extraneous, useless pages.

  • I think in the case of a page for Sedan > BMW it would be categorically related to SUV > BMW, so cross linking should be encouraged. If you were to restructure your site, you might end up with "Vehicle Make" as a top category, and then body style as a subcategory, with categories like "BMW > Sedan" and "BMW > SUV". Another valid way of organizing your site, where the pages would have identical content. There's more than one way to slice a pie, so if they are justifiably related, you should cross link.

  • I realise this response is almost a year old, but I've only just found it. I am about to start using Optimizely, but am concerned about affecting my ranking especially now that we have a new Penguin update due any time now. The nice guy at Optimizely told me today (during the webinar for newbies) that you could use Optimizely to permanently direct different sorts of visitors to different content. For example, he pointed out that people who today run IE 6 are very different from people who run IE 9. And depending on your market it might make sense to give those two groups different messaging.  But Google specifically say don't deliver different content based on user-agent. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/website-testing-google-search.html  And on the last point in that article, how long is too long?
