  • Hi John, That helps. I read about that Yoest site. But I am not using Wordpress. I was a big fan of WordPress for almost a decade. But I got frustrated with it in the end. So I need to find a way around it.

  • Thanks Vijay! Also something to note though is that for us to update any 301 link, we would need to re-discover the old pages to be able to follow and update the metrics. This is not likely common for sites with lower authority since old links are not continuously shared on new pages/articles/blogs. Link Explorer works solely through link discovery and crawling. For every link we index/crawl, these links are not guaranteed to be re-crawled. Eli

  • Hi Simon! As John said, a link to your site or a little more detail would be helpful here. There's a lot of reasons a site's visibility could be low (a technical issue, low-quality content, poor keyword/page alignment, high competition etc). I know you're saying these things check out, but it's better to be able to take a direct look at things. It could also just be a metrics/data issue or misinterpretation. For example, visibility percentage can be impacted artificially by the keywords added to a rank tracker. A better way to look at it might be - have you seen a major change/drop in clicks in search console? If so, can you narrow it down to a specific date or segment it out to find specific keywords or pages that lost visibility?

  • Honestly, if the client is already on you about not losing SERPS, I'd just leave the structure as it is. Preserve it and move it over to the new site. It's not as clean as you would like it, but it does contain the blog title in it and that should contain relevant keywords/subject matter. Can you expand on the 404 issue with Hubspot scheduling? Have you talked to them about this issue? They're pretty adaptive and I'm surprise their scheduling structure would produce 404's ahead of the post being published. I hope that helps!

  • Hey Drew, I would try the inner linking to see if that helps first. If that doesn't work, I'd build links to the https://3fconstruction.net/chicago-general-contractor/ page. I don't think you are being penalized but I'll defer to the other SEO gurus who help on the Q+A. Thanks!

  • In theory this will probably work. However, Google is pretty savvy and may catch on. Google regularly crawl these sites and noticed that these links are 404's. All of sudden, these links point to a live domain w/a 301 to a new site. If this a common occurrence, the pattern may be recognized and they take some sort of action. Good luck!

  • If I was going after the keyword "Normandy Cycling".   I would have a generalized map of the Normandy area that showing the route of numerous rides.  That page would also have one or two paragraphs of teaser text about as many rides as I have articles for, with each teaser linking to a full page description of the ride.  Each teaser paragraph would be paired with a small map or a great photo. For rides that I don't have articles for yet, I would link to another website.  But eventually, I would have more pages with full ride descriptions than anyone.

  • Hi there, so just to confirm - you have a page that is redirected to your homepage (I'm assuming not with a JavaScript redirect) and your Google Analytics is reporting that page is getting traffic from 12-reasons-for-seo.com? This sounds like Measurement Protocol spam, I'll explain why I think that based on the way GA works but to reassure you - if that's the case then all it's messing with is your analytics. Google doesn't use Google Analytics data to inform search rankings - in terms of "bounces" Google just uses data about whether a searcher, on a Google page, clicks one result and then comes back to the search results page and clicks on another. Google Analytics records page views based on receiving a message from some JavaScript code that runs on (ideally) every page of your website If the page is redirected before it loads (as in not a JavaScript redirect) that code won't have time to run, so Google Analytics won't see you having a page view on that page, even if someone tried to access it Measurement Protocol is a way you can manually send hits to Google, it's a way of recording all kind of things that are difficult to reflect in terms of pageviews and events on your site (i.e. someone bought a product over the phone or someone viewed the same page on your app) Anyone can get your GA ID by looking at your page code and once they have that, they can send fake pageviews to your Google Analytics. If it's true that all of these pageviews are landing on a page that doesn't even load before it's redirected (that's important, because if it's a JavaScript redirect your GA code might have time to run) then the best solution for this is probably to find what all of these hits have in common (sounds like you've already found a couple things) then create a Google Analytics filter for your reporting view which excludes this traffic as specifically as possible (to reduce risk of accidentally dropping real traffic)

  • Hey There! Slow and steady wins the race with SEO. If you are limited on time and resources, I would focus on creating quality content with the posts that you add. It's tedious but it'll pay benefits in the long run. You could combine a few different tasks when publishing a post - so publish post, then update social media accounts and even do outreach to see if influencers will share it on social. What I typically do is I actually have excerpts of the last 5 blog posts displayed on a homepage after the key content is displayed. Remember, that you can assign multiple categories to blog posts so you may want to do that if it makes sense for the visitor. I hope that helps get you started!
