Very informative - thank you! It seems when I think I have a relatively firm grip on SEO, I stumble upon something new - like the dangerous potential for an infinite loop in a 301 redirect in IIS. (That was Chinese to me two days ago;)) Your response solved my concerns - hopefully it will help somebody else when they face the same problem.

Hey Jessica, I just took a look at your campaign and when I click the "Change Profile" button on the settings page and look through all of the GA profiles connected to that campaign, the one listed as connected to your campaign is not showing up so there is definitely an issue with the connection. Something in the connection is blocking us from pulling data for that profile. Can you please try disconnecting your GA account from that campaign and reconnecting to the correct profile again? You will receive a message that your historical data will be removed, but don't worry! We pull all of that data in again once the account has been reconnected. If you are still running into any issues after you reconnect, can you please email us at help@moz.com so that we can have our engineers investigate further? I hope this helps! Hi, If you have a separate mobile site with separate URLs, you shouldn't use regular canonicals, you should use the mobile version, called switchboard tags. This will indicate to Google that your mobile version is a mobile version and not simply duplicate content. You do want Google to be able to index your mobile pages as they have a separate smartphone crawler and a mobile index. To implement switchboard tags: On the desktop page, add: and on the mobile page, the annotation should be: This rel="canonical" tag on the mobile URL pointing to the desktop page is required. As far as the nofollow question: What I would recommend is that you redirect mobile user agents (which will include the Googlebot for Smartphone) to the mobile version (most relevant page, not just homepage) and redirect desktop user agents landing on your mobile pages to the desktop version. Always include an option to 'view desktop version' or 'view mobile version' so that users can choose to override the redirect. That link should also take the user to the desktop/mobile version of that page, not just the homepage. Hope that helps!

I'm glad to hear you've been sorted out Lawrence Neal. I find it interesting the the other Lawrence saw something similar, and I'll ask around to see if it was a glitch that other people have noticed too. For anyone reading this wondering what Mr. Neal was referring to in regard to rel canonical / href lang conflict, there's a good writeup of it over at Dejanseo.com and Gianluca Fiorelli mentions it in his comment on Dr. Pete's Rel Canonical uber post here on Moz.

I agree with Gary, you should definitely go through all your links and be really ruthless in terms of which are the poor quality links. Anything that is on an article or directory website you can probably get rid of (apart from directories like Yahoo, DMOZ etc) and submit your disavow file to Google. If it is only your target keywords that have dropped then you have been lucky to escape a site-wide penalty but there is a good chance that this will be on its way so if you can clean up your profile sooner rather than later, it should help.

Hi Adnan, True local results revolve around cities, not counties, and inclusion in the local pack of results typically requires having a physical location in the city of search. Beyond this, you can develop content for additional cities where you're not physically located, and that could include content you develop for counties, too, if research indicates county terms are important in your niche, but the goal of this work would typically be organic visibility rather than visibility in Google's local pack of results. Hope this helps!

So if you read around on the topic Google supporting AJAX is a recent development so there are still many issues, with this. Think of it this way if Google bots still have a hard time reading regular code after so many years now. AJAX will have issues, they are focusing from what it seems on commenting systems such as FB, and Disqus. However try it out and see if your AJAX is being read if not it might be some time before most of the AJAX crawling works as it should. Those are know as "Sitelinks" Here is the official page from Google about them, https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/47334?hl=en "At the moment, sitelinks are automated. We're always working to improve our sitelinks algorithms, and we may incorporate webmaster input in the future." Google Having a good linking structure that is clear on your site, will help promote that. However you will also only get sitelinks when your site is an authoritative source for that search term.

DO NOT interlink your sites with dofollow links, Google hates this kind of activity and can penalize both sites for this. It is a blatant attempt to self promote your own site and will be seen as a paid link. If you have a good site, I would not mess with it. I would look at better ways to integrate the eCommerce site into the current existing site, why do you need a new site with a new url?

Richard, you're absolutely right, it shouldn't be working that way. I've notified our help team so that we can make sure our engineers are looking into this.

Yeah, the likes of Wickes etc do have a high domain authority but they're not focusing on these specific search terms. They are appearing because they are closely related. If they did focus specifically on each search term I'm sure they would be number 1. I'd suggest building up your long tail, maybe slightly varied to your competitor so that you do trump them at the top and just continue down the path of progression. They've probably been there a while and Google has no reason to shift them if people are clicking onto their site and finding what they want.
