Gary is absolutely correct. Google can alter your page Titles and Descriptions if they find are not appropriate and can even fetch descriptions from other prominent websites where your website is listed with a description. The best example of such prominent website is the Open Directory Project, Dmoz.org. So its always recommended to come up with relevant page titles and descriptions that are unique for all your pages. Most of the time, Google will take the titles and descriptions mentioned by the webmaster in the title tag and description meta tag, but there is no guarantee that this happens 100% of the time. If your website is listed on dmoz and you do not want Google to pickup the description from there, you can use the page level robots meta tag as follows: Similarly if you do not want Google to pickup the description from Yahoo directory, Use your page titles and descriptions in such a way that they force the visitor to click on your website in the search results. The title should contain your target term in it. See to it that the Titles and Descriptions have a strong compelling message. Using titles and descriptions optimally can have dramatic improvement in CTR from search results. Best, Devanur Rafi

Yes site a was a victim of Penguin last december but has been cleaned up since. But i will de double checking before we 301 everything

We were hit by Panda and Penguin and got an unnatural link penalty way back in 2012, Staff at Google confirmed there was no issue, however I have confirmation that we have STILL not recovered from a penguin refresh yet! Even after all this time. However as of yesterday my pagerank is back on all my sub pages! Maybe this is the first sign of an actual recovery. Even though the pagrank back in the day was a steady 6 with the odd occasion of a 7.

Yes it was an unatural links penalty that we solved by using the links disavow tool and reconsideration requests. I would say that we saw improvement on some keywords quite instantly but others lets say 1 month after wards. There has now been about 4 months since we had it lifted and generally speaking we have seen improvements apart from this one keywords (which the client is heavily focused on). Thoughts?

Hey Gary, I'm not worried about the main content on the site. At the moment Google is like removing 10 URLs per day from their index. The cached copies are creating issues, I think. Forgot putting 'noarchive'. Surprisingly, also the crawl stats show that the average crawl rate decreased. I placed the noindex,follow tags on September 28th and till now Google merely removed 80-90 URLs from their index solely based on that (without manual intervention).

Hi Bil I haven't heard of that issue before. See if you can log out of your Google account, clear your browser cache/cookies and try re-connecting your profile and follow the authorization steps through your campaign settings and let me know if that works! Make sure you are logging into the account owner of the Google Analytics profile.

Great direct advice, which I shall follow. I guess the 2nd step is after creation of good valuable content is to .... share it.  I'm thinking in my case sharing with jewelry industry news websites, bridal websites, wedding planning, mens fashion websites.  And if they think it is valuable content, they can mention it and send a link to our content.  So this is good, right?  I'm developing an indepth article as we speak that I think is valuable.

What plugins have you added recently? What settings have you changed in Wordpress? Something is causing a ton more URLs. I would worry less about the rel canonicals and more about the duplicate content. I am with Rohit and his advice, you need to noindex a ton of content including archives, tags and maybe categories. I would worry less about categories though.

Try replying to celebrity tweets and mentioning them in your social media. My current marketing director does that and we get about a 5-10% interaction or reply. More importantly we've noticed if the post or tweet is in positive light they're more thank likely respond or  react. We have a "Celebrity Body of Day" and we post it throughout all of our social media and have had great response from it. I hope that gives you a little insight. Good luck soldier.

Hi Laurie, 8 hours per month is going to limit your options a lot! Personally I think it is virtually impossible to do a proper job in that small amount of time, so perhaps client education on the benefits of what you are proposing is in order first? If you can bump it up to 16 hours a month that would give you the option of doing 4 hours a week which will allow you time to plan things better and to reflect on the previous week's actions and possible results. 8 hours a month all on one day is like month 1: analysis, month 2 - content, month 3 - more content, month 4 - more content, a few links maybe... with that kind of timescale both you and your clients are likely to get discouraged long before real results start appearing! That being said I would definitely look at making sure the content is decent (and optimised) before actively looking for linking opportunities. This will usually involve content creation in addition to on page optimisation (so another 8 hours...or more!). Be realistic about the keywords you are trying to target and go after longer tail and/or local combinations. Only then would I really start looking at links, but be careful! Deep links to these kind of small scale sites to me usually means seo directories and pr releases and they are not going to do you much good. Concentrate on easy wins in term of local business directories, potential links from cooperating businesses and the like. Hope it helps!
