  • It may potentially affect the rankings on: pages without SSL pages linking to pages without SSL At first, not drastically - but you'll find that you'll get more and more behind until you had wished you just embraced HTTPS. The exception to this of course, is if no one who is competing over the same keywords, is fully embracing SSL. If the majority of the query-space's ranking sites are insecure, even though Google frowns upon that - there's not much they can do (they can't just rank no one!) So you need to do some legwork. See if your competitors suffer from the same issue. If they all do, maybe don't be so concerned at this point. If they're all showing signs of fully moving over to HTTPS, be more worried

  • In terms of converting traffic into buyers, it is most likely not a problem that visitors can't click on those 5 main category pages from the homepage. In terms of ranking those 5 pages, it would be better to link to those 5 category pages within the navigation so they receive a link from every page of your site instead of just from pages within the subcategories that are under each main category.  These 5 pages are potentially missing out on thousands of internal links (depending on how big your site is) because of how it is setup now. Also, each of these pages are missing out on a link from the homepage which is your page with the highest authority. To give these pages the best chance possible to rank for their targeted keywords, you should make this change asap.

  • Hey! Sorry for the confusion here. We have updated the algorithm that calculates Domain Authority in order to predict a site’s ranking ability with even better accuracy. You can read more about this here https://moz.com/domain-authority-2.0 The changes you are seeing are a result of an update to the actual calculation of the DA score in order to more accurate depiction of your site’s influence over time. Please note, when tracking your DA and the Link Building work you’re performing, DA should always be looked at in comparison to your target competitors, never as a standalone metric. We’ll continue to improve our Domain Authority and Page Authority algorithms and strengthen our link index as the search landscape changes. In terms of future updates, we anticipate this new DA model being quite stable over time. We will keep track of possible changes that we might need to make and we’ll be sure to keep you updated. I hope this helps but please feel free to reach out to us at help@moz.com if you have any other questions! Eli

  • I was wondering about site/ brand-names added to the title by google to, than I realized that Google is only doing this brandname at the end (and truncated titles to display the brandname completely) for searches that are also including the site or brand name. The same search without the site/brand name shows the usual title tag. Maybe you should check that.

  • Hello There! Using a rank checking tool set to the zip code of your business, I see you ranking #1 in the local pack and #9 organically for "real estate photographer Denver". Doing the same search from my location in California, I see you ranking #2 in the local pack and #7 organically. In other words, you've already achieved really excellent visibility. I would question the path of making your homepage more optimized towards Denver, because I'm assuming Denver is only 1/50th of your customer base, if you offer a 50-state service. Right now, with your optimization exactly as it is, Google is still highly favoring your Denver location in the Denver-based-and-modified results. I would feel some concern that overdoing the homepage with Denver would be subtracting from your visibility in other parts of the country. At the same time, if you created a Denver-only page for the website and pointed your GMB listing to it, your local rankings would almost certainly drop as the new landing page wouldn't have the same DA as your homepage. Your About and Contact pages can act as landing pages, of sorts, for your Denver location, but I still wouldn't advise pointing your local business listings at them. Nor does that seem at all necessary given that you're ranking #1 and #2 locally for this core term. Rather, if what you're really hoping to do is get more business from Denver clients, I'd leave your website as-is and consider some of the following efforts: Continue to hammer down on reviews. You're already blowing away your local pack competition in this regard, but I'd keep working on this. And keep up the work on Google posts. This is for your local ranking maintenance, of course. For your organic goals, I'd work on links. Explore whatever Denver-based links and linktations you can get. This tutorial might be helpful: https://moz.com/blog/linked-unstructured-citations. I would also work on social outreach within the Denver community, which actually corresponds with point #2. Hope you'll get some more feedback from the community!

  • After doing some serious digging and researching re: the classification of 'duplicate' keywords (there's a ton of information about how to remove them but the definition of what's a dupe and what's a 'variant' is really, really hard to find), there's a basic question about using redundant words within keywords that doesn't appear to be clearly addressed anywhere. 1. If you use the same root word _within a set of keywords, _are each of these keywords that use the same root word considered duplicates? To use the example above: +red +cat +red +cat +boots +red +cat +bag I would assume not— because each of these keywords that use the same word technically become a new keyword  variant with the addition of each new word. Is this accurate? 2. That said, Google offers a de-dupe setting to catch the re-use of words within _keywords,_and this seems to be used vaguely to define a keyword as a potential duplicate, but is this true in practice? Thanks!

  • Is code on .htaccess works? It should be on top because that file is executed from top to bottom. And if some rule must be executed then execution flow can stop so next rows can't be executed.
