Hi Waqid This is a tricky one I think because the general consensus is that the best place to have a blog for SEO is at yourdomain.com/blog, i.e. a sub-folder on your website (and not preferably blog.yourdomain.com). But if you already have an external blog running, then that raises the question how can you move it and move all of your link equity, making sure that everything is 301 redirected at the old blog location to the your website? Wordpress do offer a guided transfer service which you can read more about here. In addition, they can provide a site redirect option - details here, but I am not sure if that gives you 301 redirects or not. Perhaps someone could confirm on that. The thing is, even if it does, then you will lose some link equity with 301 redirects - probably around 5-10% on average. So, I guess the decision needs to be based on how many blog articles there are to move and how many point back to your client's domain. If not many, then I would just move them, but if a lot, it may be best to leave them. Going forward however, I would recommend that you do set up a blog for them on their site so that all new blogging is in what I believe will be the best place for it. I hope that helps, Peter

Hmmm, for this question: I am wondering how I can go ahead and use sub folders and have a seperate site, for example using Wordpress Multisite, at domain.com/technology, and it not cause any issues should there be a news piece on the main site that has technology in the title, which could happen. What are your recommendations for overcoming that? Let us take an example: domain.com/technology.html and domain.com/technology. In a scenario like this, the target term is, 'technology' that would be in the titles on both the pages (on the technology.html page and on the homepage of domain.com/technology/ ). So we have a keyword cannibalism here, two pages competing for the same keyword. In cases like this, we should decide which page from our website should rank for the term and put rel=canonical on the other page pointing to the preferred one. And yes, you can definitely port all the mini sites to their respective folders on the main domain without a second thought. Once you move them, just make sure to go for page-to-page 301 and you should be good. Would like to share a personal experience here. I had a client few years back that wanted to with a mushroom websites approach and many of them targeting the same set of keywords/phrases and with an intention to occupy multiple positions in search results. Despite me making them aware of the possible consequences, they insisted to go with the strategy. First few months were very fruitful but after that disaster struck. Many of those websites were thrown out of index overnight. We took down all of those websites and moved the content from them to the sub-folders of the flagship website. It took 6 weeks for us to see anything good happening and after that, there was no turning back. The flagship website literally ruled the niche and became an authority in the niche. I agree with Extimaseo, it's your own personal preference. Somehow I would use the noindex in this case instead of the canonical tag, because you are able to add a unique description later on.

What I can tell you from our experiences is that pulling pictures from a different website (as long as it is also hosted on a differnet server) makes sense according to the performance of the site where you display the pictures. As long as you have verified the sites within WMT you don`t have to worry - if you have outsourced pictures and they are used by several other sites which you also own or maintain, there is no problem using a picture sitemap for several times and all your domains. Having thousands of pictures in a shop at least means to consider outsourcing the sources of your pictures and pulling them to the original site. You have to think about how much pictures you have - I would always recommend option 1 as you already mentioned...

In these blog posts you can link to your homepage using the anchor texts that include the targeted keywords. This is known as internal linking and is also one of the many ranking factors.

Another possibility is that there is anchor text or citations pointing to that site that helps Google know it's related to that city, even if that city isn't mentioned on the site.

Hi Jonathan, Tom has a great response here: "In terms of Baidu, having a chinese domain, like .cn or .com.cn and having Chinese servers certainly helps - but it is not a necessity in terms of ranking on the search engine. i think the case can be made for any of the three main formats.  all have their pros & cons, but Google recommends schema.org microdata https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/99170?hl=en structured data offers search engines more information about the site.  more information they can use to evaluate the relevancy of your site to a query as well as the depth of content for a richer snippet. as far as it negatively affecting SEO, i would say take the same precautions as you would with any other tactic.  implement it as cleanly & honestly as possible.  if it's done with (perceived) manipulation for the sole purpose of better rankings it can negatively affect the a website's SEO.  but that's just a good rule of thumb regardless of the tactic.  

Hi, The question you should really be asking yourself is if the keywords in the image alt text are an accurate description of the image. The goal should be to get the image to rank for relevant queries in image results or universal results. If you're simply targeting the same keywords in the title and image alt text, but it's completely relevant, then I wouldn't worry about it so much. Google's over-optimization penalty (I assume you're referring to Penguin) usually affects sites with much more nefarious spam techniques than what you've described. Things like keyword stuffing accompanied by a ton of keyword-rich links to the page from low quality sites. If you want to check to see how the algorithm changes affect your site, you could look at the Penguin update dates on Moz's algorithm change page and compare it to your site traffic. If you've been hit by Penguin, you'll likely see a steep drop in traffic after one of the algorithm change dates. -Trung

Are you the only one with permission to publish the content? If not, and there are others, you will need to canonical to where the publisher/owner of the content has the content up. If you are the only approved publisher on the web, you can make others canonical to you, but it'll be a battle.

Hi, From an SEO standpoint, ideally you should be implementing the hreflang tag - it indicates to the search engines not just the language of the page, but the relationship between the pages on the site in the different languages. It tells the search engines these pages are alternate translations of one another, and you should show the right page for the person in their correct language. Hi Again, I figured that must be the case, with the fictitious name. Totally respect your NDA, but need to mention that this makes it impossible to research nuances that might be affecting the firm uniquely. There could be so many factors involved. Regarding the comma, best practice is to use a single format across all listings of the business, whether with or without the comma. I've never seen this issue formally addressed by Google, so we have to go with a 'it's safe to say' stance here. In other words, it's safe to say that keeping your business title formatting identical will free you of the possibility of problems, while any discrepancy might put you at risk for problems. Upshot: aim for total consistency here.

I think the "avoids repetition" is in reference to anchor text or alt text to two different pages. For example, if Page A and Page B are both priority pages and both in the main navigation menu, their anchor text or alt text should be different. That way, when Google displays them as site links, they both won't display the same text in the site link.

Yup I've seen that about Bing too.. although after discussion with our front-end developer, we're going to stick with it in the name of good HTML. Our traffic from Bing doesn't represent a big enough ratio to use improper syntax.

O.K. finally I can answer this question myself: I installed lately a True Type Font: ufonts.com_helvetica_neue_ultralight.ttf which affected many browser fonts that I hardly could not use moz anymore. So problem is solved. Never install the font mentioned above !
