Trailing slash redirects not working in https - working in http: What might be the culprit?
Hi, What happens when using HTTP? Are you able to share the .htaccess code? The same .htaccess setup should work for for both protocols, but with .htaccess the devil can be in the details sometimes. A good tool for testing it is here: https://htaccess.madewithlove.be/ Do other redirects from HTTP to HTTPS work ok? I'm wondering whether your Apache setup perhaps has a different virtual host setup for HTTP and thus a different .htaccess file. Best, Tom

Swapping Homepages in WordPress
Hi there, As long as the wordpress settings result in serving the new content at the root (www.example.com/ rather than www.example.com/newhomepage) then you will not risk any page authority with this change. The only change that would be visible to google in that situation would be the updated content. Hope that helps.

Does a subdomain hurt/help a domain?
As long as the subdomain is on a good host, has good UX/content and links well w/the parent. It also requires more maintenance than the parent. But if you can maintain everything then it's ok.

Internal Links Not Registering
Hi, This has happened to me too. Before the changes to domains, I had over 24,000 links showing on my internal links in the Links research. Now I have less than 3000. I have checked on Search Console and that is still showing as 24,000, but they aren't registering on Moz. What's changed? Thanks Lydia

Our subdomain hosts content that can not be optimized (static videos) - should I de-index it?
Thanks you Serge! Sorry for the delay - I appreciate your help so so much! So... the primary is masonmorse.com the subdomain is tours.masonmorse.com - all the content on the subdomain can not be optimized and there are thousands of video pages that all appear the same (they load them by broker name) - it has no other content and we do not want these to be indexed (we post them elsewhere and optimize) nor do we want to be penalized for the duplicate content and missing meta. I thought our web company could ad the disallow txt file on the main site (masonmorse.com) but they are telling me I need to add it to the DNS record. Could you guide me to where the disallow needs to be added since the web company we work with seems to not understand my request at all. Thank you!

Is domain authority lost if you create a 301 redirect but mark it as noindex, nofollow?
Thanks Mike. How do we preserve any 'link juice' from the existing page that will have the redirect? Do the noindex and nofollow tags hurt the passing of link equity vs. just having the 301 redirect without those tags?

Page Rank Flow
The value passed from one page to another is divided by the number of links that are linking out of that page. So all links in the navigation and drop down navigation will count. The following video does a really good job of explaining PageRank and I highly recommend it. https://blog.majestic.com/company/understanding-googles-algorithm-how-pagerank-works/

Subdirectories geo-targetting: Tagretting a language to a single country affects in other countries?
Few warnings to start with: 1. Automated translation is a horrible user experience. I highly recommend you wait on translation until you are in a financial place to get human translators. 2. Geo-targeting country=language is a false association. For languages like English, Spanish, French, and Portugese, there are multiple countries that use that language as their primary language. I recommend using HREFLANG markup to tell search engines that there are different language versions of your content. That is all that is necessary here. https://moz.com/learn/seo/hreflang-tag

Best practice to have gated white paper indexed by Google
I think I have the same question. I was just going to ask it less intelligently. Our gated content always takes the shape of a PDF form on Hubspot. What are the best practices for getting some SEO benefits from the Case Studies and white papers that we gate? (In case anyone is interested, here's a landing page where you can see what I mean: https://www.cockroachlabs.com/case-studies/mux/) Thanks everyone!

Content from Another Site
Hi, Are you referring to PHP functions there? If so, content will be rendered server side and thus Google will have no problems crawling it, unlike some websites with JavaScript dependencies (not all). Regarding duplicate content issues, Donald Silvernail is absolute correct in that using a cross domain canonical is undoubtedly best practice: Rand has done an excellent White Board Friday on it, which explains it here: https://moz.com/blog/cross-domain-rel-canonical-seo-value-cross-posted-content Hope this helps! Automatic links from other domains when we create a new landing page - Is this a spammy technique?
Thanks very much Nick. I will have a read of the article you sent and we're probably going to remove all the redirects and disable the domains that we're not using but are causing this to happen. I think this setup was created years and years ago. Our rankings are generally good (page 1), but we ideally want to clean up our link profile.
