He Said No. The reason to share this video here is because, this subject is so hot and i was curious to know the answer. Hope this thread can answer queries of others ppl as well who were confused. Just been checking my backlinks on GWT. Quite a few that are listed on places like Open Site Explorer and ahrefs don't show up in GWT - most noticeably the pr0n sites. Why is there this discrepancy in reports between the tools like OSE/ahrefs and GWT?

I agree with Jared's comments - the current keyword layout of the pages is an effective one. There's probably tweaks that can be made but overall I don't see major issues with having concrete repair as a subpage. This homepage is ranking on page 1 for "concrete repair west yorkshire". That may or may not be the ideal keyword, but I would focus on link building - run your way through this entire list of opportunities and see how that affects performance.

Thanks Ashley, but the question still remains if I will lose any ranking and authority by 301-ing a page that was a top level page on my old domain to a related interior third level directory on my new site. In other words, does Google assign additional weight for a page being a top level home page, and will that weight be lost when 301 redirected to a deeper level page? It makes sense for Google to do so, as most likely content on the home page is less likely to be spam. adding canonical tags does not sound right since the paginated pages are not duplicate, rather part of a series which I have addressed by adding rel=next/prev…….

I agree with Moosa - his suggestions on checking things besides links are spot on. If rankings are dropping continuously over a 9 month period, that doesn't sound like just a links issue. Algorithmic penalties (speaking from experience) cause a drop at a certain point, but they don't make rankings continue to drop. If other things look fine and you think links may be the problem, run Link Detox. You'll still need to manually review each link in there (you'll occasionally find false positives), but it'll give you a very good idea of how healthy your backlink profile is.

Hey There I've not used Squarespace but this looks like your answer here: http://help.squarespace.com/guides/how-do-i-create-url-shortcuts-or-mappings I think they are calling them "shortcuts" or "mappings" and not "redirects" but looks like it achieves what you need. As others have said the global catch all isn't very ideal, you should definitely individually redirect old pages. Hope that helps!

Thanks right Jack, Google Plus offers a do follow link back to the website and there are websites who are using Google plus comment box (similar to facebook). IF you have commented on few blogs that somehow convert that one link in to multiple links. I mean not sure if removing them will be a doable option to you but better idea is to disavow the links that are causing this and it will be resolved. Hope this helps!

Hi Eric, first of all authorship should not be shown for pages like the home page of your site. Remember, authorship should be used just for articles, posts, guides, white papers... editorial content that has a proper author. Pages like home page, product listing, product pages, institutional pages... not. If you want to show an image, maybe your logo, you could use the schema.org/organization, as explained by Google here. Then... if you do a search like "angelsmith.net", then you will see sitelinks (10). It does't show them when the search is "angelsmith". Why this difference? First of all remember that we cannot decide if a search snippet will show sitelinks or not (we can only tell Google what URL to not show as such), but in your specific case I think it is because of the supposed intention Google gives to that branded query. It's probable that users' intention is to see the local search information of Angelsmith. That's also reinforced by you presence in Google Plus as a physical business. p.s.: about sitelinks. Usually Google choose the sitelinks over its knowledge base, meaning with that URLs that usually are clicked on by the users in its SERPs. Apart that, schema like breadcrumbs, but also a clear site's navigation architecture helps Google in this facet of of SERPs rewriting. p.s.2: your case remind me to correct the use of authorship also on my site

Most cases like these are catered for on an adhoc basis, usually done by a dev team that will migrate the entire database into the new site. There could well be a market for a porting tool that provides a checklist type system for a large scale site migration. I have seen site migrations go wrong. A lot of revenue can be lost through the plummet of organic traffic from a failed migration.
