  • Hi Joel, If the domains are separate and the multi site and mapping is all set up correctly (it can be a bit tricky) then google will see the sites as different domains and as far as that goes will treat them all as regular websites. No reason for a negative impact at a technical level there. As to if there are indicators that these sites are related, yes there are as you mention shared ips and c blocks and if the front end code is substantially the same then this is identifiable also, but they will still be treated as separate domains. As long as your content for each domain is strong and unique you shouldn't have a problem.

  • Hey Rob, Just throwing some ideas in here. Is it folder depth or distance in terms of number of clicks from Homepage that makes a difference? It was my understanding that using a very flat structure was pretty outdated SEO? One of the issues I think that get overlooked a lot when considering URL structure is how to structure URLs so you can drill down easily into different types of content/categories/channels. As I understand it Google see a slash as the root of a folder. You can see this in Analytics, a page with a slash at the end of it has a folder icon next to it and you are shown the stats for that folder. This means that if you remove the trailing slashes from actual pages you can see how separate areas of the site are performing as a whole. Another argument for using a folders to structuring URLs could be that "link juice" spreads throughout the folder, perhaps even contextually. For instance if I have a folder which contains all of my pages about widgets then as my link profile to the pages in the widgets folder all the pages in that folder benefit. It seems logical that if an item was in a relevant directory that x contextual links then it would benefit. As I said, just a bit food for thought, not sure if my theories are correct but I'd be interested what you guys think? Neil.

  • But if you're redirecting the old domain, no one will be able to land on it and it won't rank for anything.

  • The menu is on ALL pages. Is this a problem? I feel that the link is relevant for any new user coming to the site. Will not seem spammy, i think.

  • Hi, Yes you can contact the owner to ask for removal. It might or might not be worth your time. You can do that too. Or actually the best way to do this proactively in the future, if you are using wordpress, is using RSS footer option or manually set this up that will display the original full link of the article, this way it is automatically there as the scrape your RSS feed. This would be my top pro-active suggestion. You can do this manually with Google Webmaster Tools and/or Copyscape, or also you can set up Google Alerts for each most that you have done that will notify you when the content is scraped. For detailed info how to do some of this see this article also make sure to read the comments they are informative as well: http://blog.kissmetrics.com/content-scrapers/ As far as actively fighting this, many say, it is not worth it, as long as you take precautionary steps to make sure that you always outrank the scrapers, with methods such as the RSS footers for each article you publish. Hope this helps!

  • As Martijn said before me it's very important that the anchor text is natural. Nowadays Google also looks at surrounding text so the actual anchor text has lost it's value. I would recommend that your bloggers link better than they do now. A click here link is indeed not the best approach. The company name should be find if it's to the homepage, but for a product page it would be better to use the product name or something relevant. (Nimbus 2000 VS Broom for example) Don't over optimize though. Google doesn't like manipulators, just let your reviewers make up the anchor texts. Most you can do is to ask them to place the link in a more appropriate sentence than 'click here'.

  • Hi Paul When you are in the edit & schedule email section of the report there is a customize email option at the bottom: http://www.screencast.com/t/OaMFhUewEJ0U Alternatively you can create a template to send a more customized email with your own rich-formatting that you can use to manually email the reports once they are ready. I know a few customers are using this way to send their reports until we can add more custom options in the future. Moz Analytics is technically not in beta as we are only missing the monthly timeframe options which is built and currently in testing stages.

  • Hi Mike That is odd for sure. I could see this being tricky to diagnose over a Q&A so I'll suggest some more things and ultimately you might want to try to see if someone can help. These are just guesses / possibilities; Do you have any caching plugins etc? Try disabling those Try disabling / enabling Yoast. Your settings should remain. Try one by one disabling other plugins and seeing if it changes. Are you using a theme that could conflicting? Check your theme settings. You may want to try Yoast support directly - he typically will claim it's not his plugin causing an issue (and 99% of the time it isn't) - so might be tough to get help, but that would be the ultimate source I think of a solution. Beyond getting hands on with it, that's what I could offer as some other guesses. It does sound like something possibly simple. I would keep exploring all options! If you do find the cause feel free to write back and let us know.

  • I agree 100% with Erica that's what I was trying to explain to my 1st post. That is going to have to come up with a different domain regardless of whether or not you shorten it or simply choose a different TLD it should be noted though that only bit.ly enterprise & AWE.SM are capable of allowing a person to create a unique short domain and creating a name after the/of your choice there may be another tool out there that can do it however to the best of my knowledge. Bit.ly's Personal Edition will allow you To create a unique extension only if  no one else on all of bit.ly has chosen that ending. Chances are they have though, and it's wise to go with tool that will create a short domain that is capable of making your brand look good. the 1st answer does still answer your question. It's what I would do and what I have done that's why referenced the bseo.co link because I can to exactly what Erica stated  save space on social networks and create my own short domain that redirects to my homepage if it does not have a unique URL it needs to 301 redirect I hope this clears everything up. Thomas

  • Hey Jean, Thank you for reaching out to us! I am sorry that you are seeing a problem with your Google Analytics connections. Usually Roger fetches traffic data with puppy-like enthusiasm, however sometimes there might be a delay between us and Google, so one way to alleviate that is to refresh that connection: Head to your campaign settings page on your overview page:http://screencast.com/t/je3mv5DkPbU Disconnect your Google Analytics connection:http://screencast.com/t/59NDMB0Ov Go back to your settings page and click on "connect account." Please make sure you log into the correct GA account. This will authorize a completely new token from Google which should resolve the issue. If this doesn't work for you, reach out to Help and we'll take a deeper look. Thanks! Sam Moz Helpster

  • Thank you Nishadha and Robert for your good advices. I will pay attention to directories, improve content, read moz seo guide and also be patient... I have just one more question about yyy (yes, the url is written with 2 "-") It's not exactly a "competitor" website (because it's in paris, and i'm not in paris), but I don't understand why this site was first a few days ago for keywords "psychologue" "paris"... ?? Now it seems to be on the second page ...

  • Natalie, My first suggestion is ensure there are no genericTLD's available for your product/service. (.org, .info, .co, etc.). If they are not available, one that is treated by many as a generic even though it is a ccTLD is .io. Even Google looks at it as a generic. You would then set your geographic target as US in GWMT. Go to your site in GWMT and in the top right corner there is a gear symbol you click on. It will give you three choices and site settings is the one you want. In site settings the first item is Geographic Target. Set if for the US and then rock and roll. Hope this helps, Robert

  • I think you should register the .sg domain for sure and get started. It's going to take some work to help get the domain built up with authority. If you start with the .sg, and later want to move into the more .com.sg, you could then strategically plan a 301 plan for all your sites and move the site to a new domain. There you have it .sg is the best option for now. Just build a solid strategy around your site, social media, content and inbound marketing and help push and drive traffic to your business. It won't happen overnight and will require work Good luck!
