Penalty? NoFollowed Link Profile
The way you are managing the widgets just fine, those links should be nofollow, as they are now. If you haven't receive a manual penalty notification it could be just as you said, a new site, with few links. Keep working on it, post content, etc so you can earn links the right way. Hope that helps!

How long does it take for Moz Local to spring into action?
Update from the Moz Support Team: Please read our update timeframes guide for avoiding delay. Hi Daeta, Thanks for reaching out! The time it takes our partners to update the listing really depends on whether or not they have an API. If they do have an API, the listing will be updated pretty much immediately. If they run on a traditional database (Acxiom is one), it can take up to 4 weeks. Let us know if you have any other questions and hope you have a great day!

How Can I Make My Site iPhone Friendly?
Hi Rob, Great question and I am glad you are looking into how your site responds to mobile users. It sounds like you are having some issues with smartphone users. To be clear, it's best if you approach this problem from a screen size rather than a specific phone type. Your website works fine on tablets, but it's smart phones you have a problem with. You can do a responsive design that changes based on the user screen size rather than phone type which can get really hard to develop for really quickly. Here is a guide we have developed for all things mobile design and SEO. We highly recommend making your site responsive (no need for m.domain.com or domain.com/mobile), which will take care of any issues with linking in the future, shares, and all other forms of user confusion as well as search engine confusion. Also here are mobile recommendations straight from Google. Hope that helps!

Can a homepage have a penalty but not the rest of the pages?
Check the homepage to see if it ranks for some other things; the domain name without the www the domain name with the www the title tag with the title: operator cut and paste a string of text (maybe 12-15 words) and search for it in quotes the OLD brand term (you said this was a re-brand as well?) the OLD domain name What do those all return? Further; Does the homepage show as a landing page in webmaster tools? Does it show getting traffic from search in analytics? Does it rank for anything in Bing or Yahoo? It sounds like more diagnostics are needed before we can conclude anything

How to handle backlinks associated with website analyzers like whois.domaintools.com or alexa.com?
As previously mentioned, it's natural that sites get certain links without doing anything. These types of links are natural. Typically I see many of them have nofollow attributes on their outgoing links, but some do not. I wouldn't worry too much about them. It wouldn't hurt to disavow them, but again most likely they're not going to hurt your site's rankings.

Strange 404s in GWT - "Linked From" pages that never existed
It's quite possible that at one point there was a link there--because the page rendered for some reason. I would crawl the site yourself using a crawler (there are several available) to make sure that the page isn't reachable from, perhaps, a bad link on the site. Check the archive.org to see if the page existed at one time or not. I would also take a look at the page's server header again to see if the site is showing a 404 error or a "200 ok" along with a "page not found". It's possible that the page doesn't exist but it delivers a "200 OK" server header anyway. Another option is that it might be in your sitemap.xml file. When in doubt, if the page doesn't exist, I would mark it as fixed in Google Webmaster Tools and watch if it comes up again. If it doesn't come up again as an error, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Moving Content From One Site To Another
You're pretty much right! I'd just add a few summary points for clarification: 1. 301-redirect old URLs to the new ones 2. Change any rel=canonical tags on the old pages so that the tags reference the new URLs 3. Add rel=canonical tags to the pages on the new site and make sure that they point to those same pages 4. Inform anyone linking to the old pages that the URLs have changed. 5. Check items on the pages such as media and images so that the URLs of those items themselves are hosted on the new domain and not the old one I would not delete the old pages (at least not right away) because you never know how long it will take Google to understand that their locations have changed. Only delete them unless you have a pressing need to do so. If you have any other questions, let me know!

Disabling a slider with content...is considered cloaking?
Formally everything that can be seen just by the bots and not by the users, it is consider cloaking. Be aware that toggled content sidebars or columns, if it is visible by the users after completed an action, is not considered cloaking. So, in your case, if you are just showing one slide of a slidedeck with multiple slides, it could be considered cloaking. Obviously, you should not freak out and, as Spencer wrote, understand what are you hiding. If you're hiding images only with no crawlable text and without alt text, then you should not worry, also because those images are substantially invisible to the bots (they know they exists, but they doesn't any worded description of the photo). Instead, if you are hiding text, maybe optimized seoed text... than it is much better to quit the slideshare and use just the image with text you really want to show to your users (and Googlebot).

Affect of dissavow upload on Moz DA
Hi Paul, Great Tip, most of the time though the sites ranking fine in Bing and as it works differently to Google I find no need to disavow vast amounts of links. I'm curios to see where Yahoo is going to go as I know they decided to get back in the game.

Wordpress themes causing google penalty(need experts to settle a debate)
HI thanks for the response, This is exactly what I thought I am not sure why they are so confident that this will cause a penalty. The structure of the sites are definitely different a no links have been made between them as they are essentially two site competing in the same market under different brands. I am going to send them this thread so I can finally end this ongoing debate. Its a waste of my time. Thanks again.

Country Specific Domain
Google has recently made this super easy: check out the rel="alternative" or "href lang" tag, as it is often called. You can provide the "same" content for UK, US, Aus and not run into duplicate content problems. The same goes for Spanish in lots of countries, French, German for Germany and Austria, etc. Very handy.

Great content/news articles - but struggling to drive traffic from them
Hopefully the content is good enough that the initial push using this network will expose it to a larger audience and result in more shares. That's the premise behind using this tactic.
