  • Thank You Samuel. I wished I had someone like you several years ago. Do You think there are cultural differences in seeding content? And if so, how do I adapt to them? For example, we found out that people are very responsive in Latin America if we contact them on Facebook. For me contacting people on Facebook in the US was worthless because they don't check their "other messages" and it's some kind of creepy. I already found out that it's more about developing relationships to people than creating good content (in compare to the US/Germany).

  • I don't see that much differences in the URL structure of Hollywood Life and TMZ, their editors just chose the short or shorter variant for their news story (in most cases they don't have to worry about SEO). The Washington post is a pity as they have to add a couple of extra directories in their URL structure.

  • Hello Alan, Jane got a lot of good answers for you below. I do agree with her ... Google is going to discover links at different times as many different sites get crawled. Your website ranking can be improved at all times as Google discovers the new links you build or acquire. We see clients site rankings go up consistantly all year long ... Not just 1 or 2 times per year during an update. Like Jane said, that's where penalties are being discovered and given out. Your website will benefit from new links anytime they are discovered. Regarding building links ... Social media shares and likes are not to replace link building but in addition to that work. ( Bit.ly is fine ) If you have time and know what to do, you could certainly get those links yourself. My clients just don't have time and are unsure how or where to get links. If you hire a good company, they should be able to make a big impact on a site with a relatively low DA / PA within a few months for sure. The higher your scores the more work it tkaes to improve them. It's easier to go from a PA of 15 to 25 than to go from a PA of 35 to 45. Of course high quality content is the first step, next step is to get that content out to readers and followers so they can share the content they like. I would share your content on your social media platforms you use and work on buiding subscribers and an email list. You could send out market analysis of sales in your area by price range, average days on market till sold. Put something usefull together ... you could also ask questions to your clients, sort of verbal survey to find out what kind of info they would like to see. Then put an optin offer, sign up with your email here and get our FREE market report... Real estate mistakes to avoid ! Give out some valuable info, help them out and build a loyal following. You should do some research on your top ranking competitors and see where their highest PA backlinks are coming from ... and go after these links first ... that should get you some faster results ... of course research those links and make sure they are quality before you add them to your website. For Twitter how about you use a more specific term like #nycofficespace All the best, Joe

  • Hi Ruben, There are no negatives to streaming content like this (G+, Facebook or Twitter) that we are aware of, although it isn't likely that these will be seen as "constantly updated content", especially due to how some of these feeds are coded. Often, they use iframes or similar that don't actually show Google's bots what is in the streamed box: Google just sees that there is a Twitter widget or similar on the site. For other types of streaming, Google can read and index the content but will still absolutely understand that it comes from a third party. That said, good social interaction is a good sign (although not a confirmed "ranking factor") and thus can be considered a positive.

  • Not back during the fall of 2013, but more recently there's been a change, and it's likely because of the website vendor switch. Will the links eventually disappear from GWT? If so, do you know the timeframe?

  • No worries.  I haven't labeled you as a blackhat.  In fact, my apologies, but I didn't remember that I had answered a question for you previously. So, your questions are mostly ones that can't be answered in a general sense.  They'd require someone to know the intimate details of your penalty/algorithm demotion/technical on site issues/etc etc etc.  There's no black and white answer to any of these questions. Google doesn't often just completely deindex a site.  Most penalties cause ranking demotions.  If you get affected by an algorithm (ie Penguin for unnatural links) then your site won't rank well until the links are cleaned up AND Penguin refreshes again.  But for algorithms your site won't get deindexed. Google does not give warnings to say that you are going to be hit soon. Google says that any site can recover from a penalty or algorithm change provided you fix the issues.  But you've got to have good stuff there in order to recover.  In other words, if you got a penalty or an algorithmic demotion because of unnatural links and once you've removed those links there are no natural ones there then don't expect recovery. I've written some articles on Moz that probably answer your questions: http://moz.com/blog/google-algorithm-cheat-sheet-panda-penguin-hummingbird http://moz.com/blog/after-penalty-removed-will-traffic-increase http://moz.com/blog/the-difference-between-penguin-and-an-unnatural-links-penalty-and-some-info-on-panda-too

  • Hi Gyi, Thanks for letting me know this. I'm really sorry for whatever may have caused this confusion. May I suggest that you please start a ticket at https://moz.com/help/contact so that you can share the complete details of your Moz Local account in private and have it investigated by our help team? That would be the best way to approach this, I believe.

  • I think an overall better solution would be to work on developing a strong enough website that the site is given sitelinks, indicating a stronger brand that has extra real estate space at the top of the SERP. With subdomains, you might be able to rank second or third as well and I've definitely seen this happen (although can't replicate it right now). However, Google usually tries to show relatively diverse results, even for company names. You might have trouble ranking content on the same domain, even presented as subdomains, in both top positions. It's more common for Google to pick a social profile, a separate company resource and perhaps a review site for the top results, rather than listing link after link from the same root domain.

  • I think we can all be in agreement that one site with subdomain is the best option. Thank you all for confirming what I thought was probably the right direction, but just needed to hear it somewhere else

  • I see you as #18. My guess is that you have lots of backlinks from sites that are in Europe but not so much from US based sites. I would run competitor link audits of our site vs top ranking sites for those terms in US. www.arcas.co.uk www.tigerchick.com www.webdesignsedinburgh.co.uk www.prettyklicks.com/web-design-edinburgh/ www.webwisecreative.co.uk www.70two.co.uk 11beats.co.uk www.mercurytide.co.uk www.clooti.co.uk www.dialogue-web-design-edinburgh.co.uk

  • You should rank your home page for your company term. If you want to rank for things like "Social Media Management or Facebook Like", then you should create a page called coriate.com/social-media and coriate.com/facebook-like and create an in-depth article about those topics. Create a guide teaching the reader how to be success at those tasks and then advise them your company does those things. Be careful with keyword anchor text backlinking. Focus on creating high quality content, targeting one primary keyword per page, sharing socially and using your network to help promote the content.
