Scaling Business Operation n SEO as an Entrepreneur
Hi there, May i also then ask why should we do "Regular download / checking of your own site's backlinks" By this, I mean conducting a regular download from Open Site Explorer of your links and checking to see if they have increased or decreased in number, what the quality is like and which type of links you'd like to get more of. You can also download your links from your Google Webmaster Tools account, but it is good to have more than one source of backlink data because different services usually show a slightly different picture due to their crawling capabilities, etc. Other services that do this include Ahrefs and MajesticSEO. I would say that if you are going to renew, definitely use a few hours of SEO time a week to get familiar with the toolset and what it can do for you. $99 a month can go a long way if you take advantage of what's on offer, but I agree that it is a waste if you don't use it. The good thing about learning to use the tools yourself is that you can save hundreds of thousands of dollars on consulting if you can do a lot of this yourself. Understanding the tools and what they tell you also means that you will be better able to pick good external consultants in the future if you get to the stage where you can employ / contract someone to do SEO for you. Hope this helps! Cheers, Jane

Duplicate Content
Hard to say if they are taking a 'hit' of any kind. Just from checking Rugs USA, while there is some duplicate content the different product pages are not identical (there are different product titles, images, size options, prices, reviews, etc) so there may not be enough to consider it a 'duplicate content'. To be safe, you always want things like descriptions to be unique, and not duplicate, but that in and of itself may not be enough to draw the duplicate content penalty.

Identifying bad backlinks
This is one of those constantly recurring questions and you will find lots of posts which cover the subject on loads of sites as well as here on Moz (eg, http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-detect-a-bad-link-and-remove or http://moz.com/community/q/how-can-i-find-this-bad-link). There are several tools out there that can help, such as LinkResearchTools Detox mentioned by Prestashop, but while they are useful in crunching large amounts of links down to manageable levels they can also often give you false positives, and in the end you don't want to be disavowing too many non-harmful links either. You can enter a sites domain name into Google to see if it appears and then if it doesn't it means it is likely to have been penalised, check to see if the site is part of a network, and you at the sites PR, Domain Authority or similar metrics but these often catch new domains which can be genuine but have simply not had a chance to establish themselves. In the end it really boils down to having to look at the links manually and answer a couple of simple subjective questions: "Does the link look natural and genuine?" and "Does the link provide any benefit to real people?". If a link fails these questions, then there is no real reason for it to exist and it may be seen as suspect.

Same Meta description is being shown on Google?
Google will choose a snippet it feels is appropriate based upon the user's query, and often doesn't choose the meta description. Do your descriptions show up as the snippet if you search for a query related to their content, rather than for a site:"mywebsite": + "key phrase" search, i.e. just [key phrase]?

Sudden Drop in Rankings/Traffic/Organic Impressions Without a Penalty
I did not go thru your entire list of links but I checked on BuiderDirectory.com and it costs money to be included in their directory. How is that not the same as buying links? Shouldn't this be a violation of Google's policy as well?

International architecture: Country specific subfolders > domain mapping to tld
This is all they are saying thus far, make any sense ? We've set it up as network.domain.com so that every language site - including the UK version - can be subfoldered from one master place. So in actuality the UK site is www.domain.com/uk but it is domain mapped to the central URL www.domain.com

What is the normal timeframe to complete these tasks?
I have to disagree that an "SEO specialist" would complete any of these tasks, to be honest. Lots of this stuff is done by robots and the "SEO specialist" (ahem) takes credit for it. ... and the webmasters who want their site to receive genuine "bookmarks" or "shares" or "listings" have content that is either so skimpy or so bad that they don't need an SEO specialist.... they need a magician. Create ten pieces of unique content for specific audiences .... with the intention of having that content appeal to the user-base of those audiences. If you do what Jane suggests, and do it exceptionally well, you will not need an SEO specialist or a magician because your visitors will do the bookmarking, sharing and listing for you. Visitors to websites love to tell their friends when they find fantastic stuff. It makes them feel like Christopher Columbus or Indiana Jones and they wanna tell their friends about their discoveries. Also, a busybody or a gossip can be better than lots of SEO specialists. They tell everybody everything - but this works best when you have juicy stuff to talk about.

Should I redirect images when I migrate my site
Take a look at the image index rate, and see how many are indexed and showing. 20k images is quite a bit, and I would want to see if Google actually indexed them all before I started creating redirects for that many items. If they are indexed, see if there is a way on your new site's sytem to have the images named the same. That way you would only be creating a redirect for the image paths, and not the images themselves. Example: oldsite.com/image/25/coolpicture.jpg newsite.com/images/awesome/25/coolpicture.jpg All that would be needed would be an HTACCESS rule redirecting from one directory to the other, using the image name as a variable. You could probably redirect most of them using only a few rules than 20,000 separate redirects. Is it worth it to redirect? I think that depends on how many are indexed, and if the images bring you a significant amount of traffic.

Questions Regarding Wordpress Blog Format, Categories and Tag pages...
Hi There To answer your first question about URL structure, I would see slides 12-15 in this Mozinar I did: http://www.slideshare.net/evolvingseo/hands-onwpseodanshure (you can also watch the whole Mozinar here). In short - if your site is mainly a blog, it's ok to do site.com/blog-post but if your site is a blog within a site you probably want to do site.com/blog/post-name You will want to 301 redirect the old URLs to the new one. I think it's worth it. For many answers about tags etc you can see my post about WordPress SEO here but in general; categories - index tags - noindex author archives - noindex for single author blog, index for multi-author with customized author pages dated archives - noindex subpages of archives - noindex You're not noindexing to avoid duplicate content, you're noindexing to avoid too many pages being indexed that don't need to be, and probably won't rank anyway

Keyword Difficulty Search Engine Selection
Hi there, The SERPs and other information presented in the Keyword Difficulty tool are going to be for whatever search engine you choose. The only thing that isn't going to be is the Search Volume data. That will always show Bing data because we lost access to Google's API a while back. Instead of leaving this blank, we still wanted to show a snapshot of volume. This has no effect on the score so you're safe there. Hope this helps clear things up!

PissedConsumer.com URL structure for SEO vs the rest of the world - Expert Opinion Wanted!
I agree. You don't even have to put 'reviews' or 'complaints' in your query and they rank. My guess is that you can pay to have the bad reviews removed... so by working hard to rank page one for the company's name.... BOOM, revenue.

Defining time period
Hi, That's correct at this time we don't have that feature. The only thing we have that lets you back further in reports is our custom reports. But it only goes as far back as when the custom report was created. So if you created one today then let's say 6 months later you wanted to see your first report you would be able to. You can either set it for weekly or monthly. But as for specific dates Sean is right we don't have that yet, hopefully we will have it in the near future. Thanks Steffany

Yelp Review From My Customer Removed
I didn't ask my customer for a review. She was so happy with our service that she did this on her own and then told me about it. That's how I know it was placed in the filtered area on Yelp. I don't bother with Yelp at all.
