My client wants to rebrand their company including URL...
We recently changed our domain name to match our brand. I read everything on Google and Bing Webmaster about domain moves. I redirected (301) each page individually to the matching new page. (Ok, we moved to WordPress from html/css and used the HTML 2 Import plugin so there was a lovely list of all the redirects for the webmaster to install on the old website) One thing I did that was bad was made a placeholder page for the old homepage informing people of the move. I corrected that and 301'd the old home page to the new home page. I should have done that straight away. Then I used the Site Address Change tools in Google and Bing Webmasters to notify them of the move. Ours is a smaller site (~800 pages) and site traffic moved with it. I'm checking links now to ask external links to update our info. These articles helped, but there are lots more if you search for Google Webmaster domain move. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106?hl=en https://support.google.com/webmasters/topic/6033102?hl=en&ref_topic=6029673

How does Google Tell which are the keywords you're targetting?
don't just think broad vs exact match, also think synonyms and tenses. and don't write for seo write for the user, if it reads weird then don't do it, or make it fit as well as you can like "We operate the best delivery service singapore has to offer." research your keywords very well to make sure your main targeted and secondary ones are truly the ones people are searching for most. best delivery service singapore seems like too long tail just based on intuition, you may be able to rank well for it, but if no one is searching for it you'll get no traffic

Does site size (page count) effect search ranking?
From the user perspective, they really only know about "their site" and not all of the other sites that are out there. I know I'm being vague (confidentiality reasons), but think of it as SaaS where your company can buy access to content and testing material that is only available to your employees. Another company may get access to the same stuff, but it is available only through a URL that's customized to them. My basic thinking is that if the content is not unique, it's password protected and the user's experience is relatively solid (aka they don't stumble around the URL structure), then possibly the only way a consolidated URL structure could add value to search would be to have some sort of content strategy to increase the publicly available content on all of these sites. And even then we wouldn't really have an inbound linking strategy to these pages as they are really client/employee specific...so we'd be back to producing content for the corporate presence rather than these individual sites. Okay, now I'm rambling but I'd love a general nod if at least my logic is sound. I'd happily take any challenges to my thought process as well! Thanks!

Domain Authority
I agree with Andy, it's probably just a refresh issue. To check if your site is listed on that website you can use search dommands. Type this into Google using their domain, and your business name site:theirdomain.com your business name If you are listed, and the page is indexed by Google, it will find you.

Will SASS ruin my SEO?
I agree with this. One thing you have to watch out for in using SASS is alienating older browsers or IE. With control like SASS comes problems also. Here lately I have seen a lot of cases where people use SASS and end up with too many selectors for IE to handle. Depending on the size of the site and how it is generated, this can be a real issue. Also, I would precompile and not compile at run time as well. It will add a processing overhead if you don't precompile.

.htaccess redirect question
Does the site even need HTTPS? If not, just delete all the rules sending it back and forth, and create a 301 for each https to go to http. You could probably knock out all 132 in less than 2 hours. (I have done 100 in less than 45 mins ;)) "A uniform redirecting of http to https is not an option so I'm looking to find out the best practice for reconfiguring these 302s to 301s within .htaccess?" Yes, you can do a sitewide redirect to send all URL's to the secure version. http://www.besthostratings.com/articles/force-ssl-htaccess.html I agree with you tho, that htaccess is a mess lol. If that is any indication of what the rest of the site has in store for you, whew.

How can I make the Primary Search engine in my campaign settings be Global?
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! My name is Erin, and I'm on the Moz Help Team. Unfortunately there's no way to set a "Global" search engine. Search engines track rankings by search engine, not globally. This means that you'll rank differently for a keyword on google.com versus google.co.uk. You'll want to just take your best guess at which search engines you want to choose. Remember, if you choose google.com (or any search engine really), you'll see results from anywhere in the world where someone is using google.com. However, each country will default to their own search engine. For example, England will default to google.co.uk, not google.com. Maybe track google.com, and then choose your other two search engines based on your best guess on where people might be searching for you. I hope that helps, and good luck! Erin

I've copied a content from a government site as it is necessary. Should I add a canonical or just a reference link?
You may find this helpful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy3_Rjc0Tso I suppose you could get around it by creating it in an image or a way that Google bot wouldn't see is as duplicate content as much but its iffy. Alternatively don't copy the content just reference it in a link then you don't have the content problem but the users can still see the content.

Should I add two canonical links in 1 page if I use a content from two sources?
When you add a canonical its pretty much saying this page is a duplicate of the other page, which is fine. This normally means link juice would flow to the page you said was the original. Other options can be just linking to the original content, Matt Cutts has mentioned duplicate content isn't the worse enemy out there and as long as its not spammy it's not solely going to bring you down Take a read - http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2319706/Googles-Matt-Cutts-A-Little-Duplicate-Content-Wont-Hurt-Your-Rankings So if the content is there legitimately and its to help the user of your site just link to the original article, obviously if you're doing this across multiple pages you might want to rethink it a bit but for one or two pages you should be fine.

Which is the better solution to remove URLs from search?meta noindex tag or 410 http header status?
Do three things a) add the meta noindex b) add the search section you don't want crawled to your robots.txt file c) request url removal in webmaster tools doing the first two steps will ensure that the pages remain unindexed after you remove them in WMT

Google Authorship and the "Fishkin" Outburst! Sorry Rand ;)
Thanks for the comment Rand. When I asked the question "Should companies now shift away from creating great content..", this was a little tongue in cheek. I wanted to stir up some dialogue within our community. Sure, well written informative content is fantastic, we all know this is truly valuable as part of any sustainable marketing strategy, but has this now lost "some" value? I have my own opinion, what's yours? I thought Joel Klettke wrote a fantastic piece http://www.iacquire.com/blog/authorship-photos-removed

Using the Google Remove URL Tool to remove https pages
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I think I will add the https to WMT and remove them that way. I will take a look through the .htaccess file and the creation of the ssl robots file. A while back, it seemed that Google was indexing a lot of my site as https and then the dropped it and went mainly back to http. I will get that sorted to make it clear.

How Long Does It Take Content Strategy to Improve SEO?
What questions do clients and potential clients have about offices? If they called your company, would you be able to tell them more than 400 words over the phone? Try putting some of that information on your page.

Will Adding Clickable Menu Improve Conversions for Product Pages?
It is just like optimizely. A modal is that new kind of pop up that covers a web page like when you visit here, http://www.allmodern.com/ they have one for their mailing list. Webengage has a pretty good offering, they have exit intent targeting, that can show a pop up when someone is trying to leave and a few other things such as that. There are several services like them that can help conversions if done correctly.
