  • Hi Adul, Just to follow up on this in case you're wondering why the answer is being downvoted. Blocking the pages that 404 in robots.txt will only stop Google getting a 404 because they can't reach the page. Users will still get a 404 so this isn't ideal. Also, if you don't 301 redirect the old pages to the new one, you lose any equity that those pages built up over the years. Hope that helps, Craig

  • Sorry, but this isn't particularly a true statement. They were indeed hit by some rankings drops for their category based pages which featured automated results, however their item pages and pretty much everything else still completely dominate. This is due to a combination of relevance, age of the domain (1995 or so? almost 20 years!!), and the fact that they have such a diverse, huge amount of content on a high authority domain.

  • Moz.com is my second favorite competitive link finding tool, but I used a Windows SEO program (dont think I'm allowed to mention the name.), and it was fantastic. Third favorite is plain old Google. The program I used would  crawl for hours and hours and also have the database from other users.  I found all kinds of incoming links to competitors sites I never would have thought existed. But yes the tool here works and is worth using. (OpensiteExplorer) You can also get a very, very basic backlink profile on Google by searching: link:www.site.com  which for me brings up 314 sites that all link to the site www.site.com.  Bing|Yahoo (Microsoft bought out the search part of Yahoo so the results are the same.), has same feature as well but their database has way less sites but still for sure worth using as I sometimes find they don't hold back as many links like Google does.  (Bing uses same syntax as above:  link:www.moz.com) Wait nevermind I take that back.  Bing now has whole tools dedicated to finding backlinks.  Nice http://www.bing.com/toolbox/link-explorer   Remember dealing with them you are also dealing with Yahoo.  As terrible as both the sites are, they still have a huge part of the search market.  Personally I think someone needs to stepup and make another search engine. (Maybe Apple?) that uses their own algorithm.  I'd try Bings new backlinks tool!! As for Google they hold back most incoming links, but here are some for the site you posted: Program and Portfolio Management Role | Gartner ... <cite class="_Ed">www.gartner.com/technology/.../program-portfolio-management.jsp</cite>Even though program and portfolio management (PPM) is a growing area of need for many organizations, the results it delivers often don't live up to ... • I especially like #1. I didn't even think to do specific remarketing like that to one individual or group. Do you have to get a certain number of visitors in your remarketing list before you can start serving ads or can you just have that handful of visitors? We were planning on using Facebook custom audiences like you mentioned but I didn't know you could do that with Twitter as well, that's good to know. Thanks SamuelScott. To go one step further than this we have been looking at physically mailing something to these decision makers along with serving them ads. Not just post cards or mailers with similar branding but also something that's a little out of the box and fun.

  • Hi Brian! Thanks for reaching out! My name is Erin, and I'm on the Moz Help Team. I looked into your account, and it looks like the listings your tried to upload are already being managed by someone else (http://screencast.com/t/IaiCxEMiJ). You can find them under the "Validation Needed" tab (http://screencast.com/t/sbXF9P92). Unfortunately there's not much we can do on the support side with this one! Since the listings have already been purchased, you'll need to reach out to the folks who are currently managing the listing to get everything sorted out. I'm sorry I can't do more to help, but if you have any other questions, please reach out to us at help@moz.com. Kindly, Erin

  • Dots aren't used in URL structure except to signal a change, either from subdomain to root, root to tld, and in the URL string to indicate file format. Use dashes to separate words.

  • Is this still happening? I crawled the URL you listed with tool an old friend built that extracts HTML/CSS elements and reads the page like a search engine would (he's worked on search engines professionally for years), and it extracted the correct title. As referenced above, Google's structred data tester is also showing no errors (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freestyleaccounting.com%2Faccountancy-services%2Fsetting-up-a-limited-company-for-contracting-quick-start-guide%2F).  A screenshot of the query and result would be really helpful.

  • Invalid code does not equate to slow code. Google used to purposely not close html and body tags to save bandwidth and loading time. I took the question as meaning w3c valid code.

  • If you got a partial action warning when you redirected site A to site B, then there are a couple of possible reasons why: If Site A has a lot of unnatural links pointing to it then those suddenly are pointing at Site B. It's also possible that the unnatural links pointing to Site A were part of the problem but that it uncovered a problem with unnatural links to Site A. If you know that Site A has had no manipulative link building done, then a quick solution would be to remove the redirect from Site B to Site A and file for reconsideration.  However, if Site A has unnatural links as well then Google won't remove the warning unless you clean up those links as well. If removing the redirect is not an option then there are a few things you can do: -Do a link audit of all of the links pointing to Site A AND site b, attempt to manually remove as many links as you can, document your efforts, disavow the remaining unnatural links and then apply for reconsideration.  The process of filing for reconsideration is extensive. -There are also ways that you can redirect Site A to Site B and NOT pass any of the link equity.  You can do so by redirecting via an intermediate page that is blocked by robots.txt.  This is a complicated thing to do, but it can be done.  This would remove the link equity from ALL links that pointed to Site B so that they don't pass to Site A.  This includes removing the link equity from any good links that were there. However, my guess is that if you got a warning for Site A that Site A may also have unnatural links, so you may have quite a job on your hands in cleaning this up. With all of that being said, there is some debate as to whether you need to heed partial match warnings.  In some cases Google says you can ignore the warning because Google is simply not counting the unnatural links.  But, in every case that I have examined where a site got this warning, within a few weeks their rankings started to drop.  In my opinion, these warnings should always be cleared.

  • If you use gLTDs as your sub-directories, you can then use WMT to set preferences. See a further discussion here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/182192?hl=en#2 From my understanding (as a hosting provider not a SEO), is that increasingly signals coming from on-page or WMT are far more important that server location, IP or other hosting related information.  This makes sense with more and more CDNs. You may also want to see: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2013/04/x-default-hreflang-for-international-pages.html In terms of what to optimize that is up to you, but the important part is to give Google clues as to what pages you want ranked where/how.
