  • Hi Ram.Babu, You seem to have a fair bit of duplication on indexed pages of the site, particularly in the area of title tags for author, paginated and forum pages. It would help consolidate your existing SEO equity into more important parts of your site if you noindexed those. Have you profiled the links of your top ranking competitors to see what local and valuable links they have that you miht be able to acquire? I'd start there if I were you. Have you checked for penalties in Webmaster tools?

  • Hello Zach, Based on what you are saying, this is an algorithmic warning and is not based on manual action. Since we are still talking algorithms, all you have to do is clean up your link profile - disavow all low-quality links and perhaps build a few higher-level links and over time the ranks should return to their former state. I know this is pretty much the same answer you received to your question on the Webmaster Help Forum, but I think that gentleman has a point. I disagree that you should "ignore" the emails, but a lack of manual oversight probably means that it is a technical issue that can be addressed rather than one you willingly perpetrated. In regards to your link profile, it's possible that the form the links took - for example, blog comments, posts etc. - contributed to the decline in rankings, but would not affect your "rankability". I don't think a Reconsideration Request is necessary as long as you ensure that your profile is clean of all "waste material". Perhaps push a link-building program for better links and see where that puts you. Also, completely unrelated to link-building, but is there a chance that the content might be responsible? Are you sure there is no duplicate content on your URL's? It might be that the current loss in rankings is Panda-related and not Penguin at all - that warning may be over and done.

  • Hi there, I'd agree with the comments from Richard and Jim below, the types of techniques you mention are not really the ones that I'd endorse when you're trying to build a business online. Social media links using Fiverr and link directories aren't as effective as they used to be and can cause link problems if you use them now. Instead, I'd recommend trying to make your website link worthy and using your business USPs to try and generate links. Here are some good guides to help you with this: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building http://moz.com/blog/10-illustrations-on-search-engines-valuation-of-links http://moz.com/blog/link-building-101-the-almost-complete-link-guide-updated-for-post-penguin http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies These guides and tactics focus on more sustainable methods of link building which should help you in the long term, I hope that helps! • I think that populating the pages with "old listings" is a great example of what I could do. I could say "No current listings, but these are the last 10 listings that was sold in this area". Thanks for your input.

  • If it is in their footer, than I'm guessing that a link to your home page is best; unless the home page to your store is separate and you want the authority to go to that page (i.e. you're trying to rank the store higher in the SERPs). I would try and get highly relevant, contextual links to deep pages of your site from them, if possible.

  • Create graphics on the longest travels you can do by airplane on straight flights and how many kilometers/ miles that is. If the service has a lot of use you could create the most 'popular routes' and see if you can provide some trends on them. Related to the last one you could also add more information on what the longest distance is you could travel from that place.

  • Hi Mike! Our focus is primarily on non-paid search/marketing so we do not have any current plans to integrate with Adwords. If there are any specific features you would like to see Moz offer that Adwords uses, I recommend submitting a feature request on our product team's forum here: https://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-Moz-Feature-Requests I can't speak on behalf of our product team with certain decisions but definitely submit your request/question there. Hope this helps!

  • Hey There! I would suggest further researching the hours of operation idea to see if you can find any other reports of similar behavior. Like I said, that idea may be a shot in the dark. I would also make sure there are no issues being surfaced for the site via Google Webmaster tools. Don't forget personalization, too. The computers or devices you are using could be influencing the listing appearing and disappearing for you, but I would be surprised if that was the whole answer. Are you checking on multiple browsers and devices when you see the site disappear after you've seen it appear? It's good that you are seeing positive movement! It's also good that the company has sought legal guidance on this - smart move. And I definitely think the company needs a rep management expert on board to further research the whole issue. Also, check out this blog post: http://moz.com/blog/panic-stations-how-to-handle-an-important-page-disappearing-from-google-case-study I hope the community will weigh in with further suggestions and insights on this.

  • I would recommend that you run your site through the Panguin Tool  - http://www.barracuda-digital.co.uk/panguin-tool/ This maps your Google Analytics against the Google Updates to give you a better idea if you have been hurt yet. It also sounds to me that you need to talk to your SEO and see what their complete strategy is - what are they doing on your site to optimise it naturally for terms you are targeting? Have basics such as your page titles, meta descriptions and other on-page factors been systematically optimised? In terms of your off-page what have they been doing to earn you links or has it just been some directory submissions? There needs to be a strategy to strengthen your site and the exposure of your site in order to help gain exposure. Do you get a lot of social interaction on your site? Do you have a content strategy in place? These are just some of the areas that you need to consider in order to start to get a proper SEO/Marketing strategy in place...

  • I caution against purchasing a link building service, you're most likely to be throwing money away or doing your site harm. Instead, identify the quality directories (should be a very small subset of websites, use Moz Local) your site needs to be listed on and add them yourself. Then, since you do not have a large budget, focus on the quality of the content and wait for links to come naturally.

  • If you treat it like an EMD, then yeah. There's an advantage much like .com EMDs. I've seen gtlds rank better than .coms. Besides that, it's fair game and will depend on your SEO.

  • In the short-term, even using 301 redirects may have a slight negative effect on the weight of your links, but in the long-term, they shouldn't be affected by it really.

  • If you add a host name with your registrar the site then becomes available for everyone in the world. Even with a login you could have some leakage. If your site is set up to only answer to http://test.sitename.com and the only place you put the translation for that is in your local host file there is no opportunity for leakage. You don't have to worry about trying to block access other ways.

  • Hello elf925, As Leonie said while it may be identified as duplicate content, our duplicate checker just scans for matching code. While SERPs may have a different way of analyzing whether content is duplicate or not we will flag it to be better safe than sorry. If 90%+ of the HTML matches we will flag it as a duplicate in our system to alert you. A search engine may not recognize this as duplicate  content but we like you to be aware just in case.
