  • Sorry, didn't notice the date of the original post (apparently got assigned clean-up on this one). Thanks for the update. It's really frustrating trying to sort out what works and doesn't work, especially for something that seems like it should be pretty straightforward. If we can't sort it out, what's your everyday webmaster supposed to do?

  • Facebook Page Likes are not the same as the Facebook Like number that OSE shows.  The Facebook Like number that OSE shows is for "Likes" for that specific URL. For example, if you put a Facebook Like button on your site - it would increment the number of likes for that URL, not the number of likes for your Facebook Page. If your Facebook Page is set up with the correct URL, search engines will associate the two with one another.

  • Yup hootsuite isn't the right tool for you there. You CAN use hootsuite to track hashtags and mentions on both Facebook and Twitter, but you can't track things like follower growth, interaction and other key metrics. The tools you'd be looking for are things like socialbro, or fanpagekarma - they track this information and do competition comparisons.

  • The question should be not: "What services should I ping?", but what "Social" are the correct for me? Because, even if they don't look like Twitter or Facebook, all the sites you cited are Social. So, is it justified for you to share your content in those sites? Is your audience there? If yes, do it. If not, don't waste your time.

  • Hello there, I will add just some points to the answer above. Some Facebook apps may create more likes but if you don't promote your app properly and your app is not giving your customers anything valuable I don't think it will help. I'd look at what level of engagement and activity you have on Facebook to evaluate if it is worth creating it. Also ask yourself simple questions such: why would customers use this app? What does this app add to their experience? How many times will they use this app? etc. And yes creating an app takes time and skills, so my suggestion is to evaluate every single aspect before making any decision. Hope it helps.

  • If you engage with your follows and users on any of those social media accounts I would advise to link to them from your site. Perhaps you can move them to a less prominent location and open them in a new tab when users click on them. If you don't engage with your followers then might as well get rid of them

  • Thanks, David, I've been testing Raven Tools for the past month.  I really like the ability to not only monitor many types of social accounts, but the ability to post to a variety of social accounts from within one centralized tool. Best, Christopher

  • I agree with Oleg; if most everything is the same, even with multiple pages, users may not bother to tell the difference and will contact the wrong site anyway. Thus that creates more work for your internal staff. If you were in multiple countries, different story (perhaps).

  • If you an agency and can allow Sprout Social to access their social profiles, then you can just setup another group under Settings > Users & Groups. But grouping is only available in Standard, Deluxe, and Premium plans. If you do not have access to social profiles, you "could" just add the other three brand names to your keywords and it would essentially search for your initial brand + the three others. The reporting may get a little messy, but you could easily filter things out by checking/un-checking the keyword(s). Mike

  • At your Google+ Business Page, it's in the very bottom right corner.  You're not seeing it there?

  • "Social Settings Tab" allow you to track what people are sharing on your social sites. You have to make sure to add also your own domain www.yourwebsite.com to avoid loosing deeper social insights. Google Analytics tracks all referral sources by default. But if you want to track visitor behaviour from your business page on social sites it will be good idea to add those social tracking links. This is based on our experience because unfortunately Google didn't add details as it does for the other tabs. Hope this help!

  • You've stumbled on a very big question is SEO. Unfortunately there's no right answers, just lots of nuances. In the traditional sense, most social links and mentions are not handled the same way by search engines as traditional links. We do know that Google takes social data into account, and there is a high correlation between content that is highly shared and content that ranks well, but we don't know exactly how search engines use this data. Think of it this way: when you post your video on Facebook and people share it, that means more people are talking about it and you have a change at more attention, links and mentions. These are all things search engines are looking for, and there's a good chance you'll rank higher. But it may be more of an indirect effect than a direct one. The one exception may be Google+, which is structured different than other social platforms. Post on Google+ pass both PageRank and anchor text, and post shared there actually "count" as a link, as far as I know. So the answer to your question is yes and maybe. Social links may be taken into consideration by the search engines, but typically not the same way as traditional links. Facebook doesn't share all their data with Google, for the most part discourages robots, and you won't typically find posts in Open Site Explorer. That doesn't mean the links don't count, but in the traditional sense they don't carry the same value.

  • If you are using HTML website it can actually arise few of the problems that needs to be resolved in order to optimize your website properly. Shifting to wordpress in a good option as it is good to change and adopt the new technologies! I think you should look in to the top users of the Moz Community to see if someone comes under your budget and do things for you! Hope this helps!
