  • I would go for the nice product URL's with (sub)categories in it. That way users and search engines will understand your website better imho. You should of course think well about your website structure before you launch. If you do that well and you're quite sure you're doing the right thing you should be good. I'm very interested in why David chose the /product system. Did that give your better results in the SERPS?

  • I'm not to familiar with IIS myself, however I found a few good articles here on SEO Moz. You can also contact the author's of each post, I'm sure they know what to look for to fix it. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-every-seo-should-know-about-iis Additional Reading: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/iis-case-folding-robots-and-results http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/iis-seo-issues

  • http://www.panaboards.com/ub-t880-whiteboard-with-hitachi-cp-a220n-projector-and-aw250wallarm.html - Traditional Product page - PA: 18 http://www.panaboards.com/panasonic-ub-t880-interactive-whiteboard.html - Richer content - PA: 20 Chalk it up to age of the page, keyword density, or a good ol' fashion mistake. Just focus on helping them identify which one deserves to rank by driving links, adding more relevant content to help the user experience, and anything you can do to set yourself apart from the other handful of panaboard sites I see you even went through the trouble of making all of the content on that page unique. How new is the page? How recently did you add that content? It may take several weeks to identify a clear-cut winner in the eyes of Google. Adding fresh links from external sources will help your efforts.

  • Thanks much, everyone. Relatively new to learning SEO, I saw the warnings that came up for it and immediately grew concerned. I believe that for now, I'm going to leave them as is, and worry about the stronger warnings and errors first, then perhaps visit this subject again with a web designer who might have some options on how to cut down the links but still make this a useful page. Again, thanks!

  • Yes, there is some truth in what your designer says, adding any additional images and media to a page will slow the load time, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. My advice to you would be this, if adding a slider to an internal page enhances the user experience (UX) then add it to the page, a well optimised image slider will not impact the load time of a page noticeably to a user. Once your site is designed, you may want to consider running it through the Google PageSpeed tool, the tool will score your page and generate suggestions to help you make your page faster https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights

  • I agree with the above 2 comments, but it could also be because the pages are fairly fresh, and so need a little more time to build their page rank. I think it may also have something to do with the amount of traffic the pages actually get. You see it in blogs all the time. Some really popular* posts, can get decent page rank, whereas others don't, even when they are on the same level. *Popular through analytics, not from comments or links, but merely traffic. Maybe Google notices them more. Maybe link juice is more powerful if users go through the link. Who knows.

  • Take a spin through Fabio Ricotta's slide-deck from MozCon 2012. There are a number of E-Commerce examples for including products on other pages to increase conversions.

  • Hi Chandana, This article explains it all: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/242/How+do+I+redirect+my+site+using+a+.htaccess+file%3F. It shows how to create and name the file and what code to use. You would want to do this: Redirect /index.html http://example.com/ I would also recommend redirecting non-www to www (or vice versa) if you haven't done so already - http://dense13.com/blog/2008/02/27/redirecting-non-www-to-www-with-htaccess/. If you get stuck there's also a free htaccess generator located here: http://www.htaccessredirect.net/index.php Let me know if you have any problems!

  • I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on the Internet. But I am a former TV and publishing executive who dealt with these sorts of issues all the time. And I can tell you that your proposed use of copyrighted material for your own commercial benefit raises every possible alarm bell. My advice: don't even bother consulting a lawyer. You will just waste a lot of money for a statement of these obvious alternatives: Forget the whole idea Negotiate with with the copyright holder to license the material (with little chance of success, even if you are willing to pay a hefty fee) If you use the material without licensing it, you will almost certainly be served with a takedown notice. The matter will likely end if you take down the material. If you don't take down the material, you will likely be sued and incur substantial legal fees on the way to a settlement.
