  • We've been running wordpress with the all-in-one-seo plugin up until now, but since looking at the Yoast plugin suggested here I've switched. Great suggestion.

  • That's it! Thanks Baptiste - the anchor text is going to be an image and an unoptimised image at that... I knew there was a reason that my brain was kicking up a fuss with this code.  Brilliant, thanks.

  • I would not use the location as a keyword. I would: As Semil says, get a local listing such as Google Places Get reviews on this listing Have the address on the site (contact page) Phil

  • Site last cached 2nd March Your site is indexed. Header's returning 200 codes. Site can be crawled fine, Xenu finds about 27 pages. Lynxviewer gets through the page alright. Only thing I can think of is that robots.txt looks needlessly complicated but should be alright, I would consider stripping it all out and re-running the test, if you get the same error then it's not that, if it is then narrow down what it could be. If no joy, let me know and I'll have another look.

  • Hi John, I've been looking into this myself and the option that I think we're going to go with is this: http://www.scriptiny.com/2011/01/javascript-slider/ Not sure whether it can handle video but it's a lovely script for images because it's a tiny js file, it gracefully degrades for users without javascript and it's very pretty! Hope that helps!

  • Don't think that's an entirely accurate (or at least, not comprehensive) explanation of PageRank. Simply generating more pages on a site regardless of their ability to generate external links, is likely a way to dilute the site's ability to be crawled/indexed/ranked over time. See http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-pagerank-works-why-the-original-pr-formula-may-be-flawed and http://www.seomoz.org/blog/google-says-yes-you-can-still-sculpt-pagerank-no-you-cant-do-it-with-nofollow for more.

  • I use fixed and absolute so the box won't move when i scroll my browser. I also tested in Safari and Firefox and works just fine, it's IE which is bugging me.

  • What is interesting is the with CSS3, the standard has the ability to add custom fonts and the browser will load those on the fly. So things will get really creative soon. I like Palatino Linotype. But there are not many choices out there : )

  • All depends on what the client wants the page to do, and how it is designed. A quick google of "jquery splash page" gets you this http://meerkat.jarodtaylor.com/how-to/meerkat-splash-page/ That's a basic splash page using jqeury, which times out to the main content. Google will ignore this "page" and head straight for the rest of the site. OK, so its not exactly what your client wants but you could add CSS menus in the meerkat content div and have no (or a very long) timer on it, which would get you what the client sounds like they are after. Thats with 2 mins of googling. Probably much better solutions out there, but like I say, it all depends on the design and your crazy client
