Does doubling up on domains increase my ranking?
I would stay clear of sub-domains if you can Zora. As far as I am aware, Google still views these as a separate entity, so keep everything under the same umbrella which is oldsite.com Andy

How can we improve our e-commerce site architecture to help best preserve Page Authority?
Hi Keri, I just went back and checked this again and the same results just happened. Here is another post in Q&A from today where someone else is noticing the same problem: http://www.seomoz.org/q/page-authority-is-the-same-on-every-page-of-my-site I am going to email help as you suggested. Thanks!

Wordpress or custom built website?
Hey, I like Drupal, but I tend to use it as a base for much heavier bespoke projects rather than as a starting point for something small like a personal blog. Each to their own I guess.

Looking for a website review.
Hi Mike, I've just done a quick crawl of your site with Screaming Frog and I can already see quite a few issues. I won't bombard you with all of them but I'll list a few things you can start with: Your URLs are a bit messy. There seems to be a pc subfolder somewhere in the site architecture. You may want to remove this folder so that you do not have /pc/ within your URLs. All your pages seem to be contained within a /store/ sub folder. You may wish to change this so that only the store pages are contained within this folder and the rest of your pages are contained within the root. This would remove the unnecessary /store/ from all of the URLs. Your home page goes through a messy chain of three 301 redirects to the eventual page http://www.wheelchairparts.com/store/pc/home.asp I would remove these redirects so that your home page reads http://www.wheelchairparts.com/ - much neater and user/search engine friendly Home page title is too long (>66 characters) and is stuffed with keywords. In fact all the page titles appear stuffed to the brim with keywords. I would change these to be more appealing with your keyword included only once. Some of your meta descriptions are too long (>156 characters). I would consider modifying these too be within the character limit. Consider removing the Meta keywords tag completely. It is unnecessary and you seem to be spamming it anyway. You have several duplicate pages. E.g. http://www.wheelchairparts.com/store/pc/viewCategories.asp and http://www.wheelchairparts.com/store/pc/viewcategories.asp. You will need to fix this issue. Anyway I think that's probably enough to get going with for now. Hope that helps! Adam.

WordPress not man enough...has anybody got experience working with Pryo CMS?
Thanks for your response Tim... we are very close to securing a PHP dev who is expert in CodeIgniter which PyroCMS is based on, but I hadn't really thought about Drupal - will give that some serious consideration! Thanks Simon

How to determine if my site map needs work?
I think so. You can always run it through a sitemap validator like this one: http://www.validome.org/google/ I'm sure this will give you everything that you need to know. The 404's are pretty normal as long as you are monitoring them and making sure that they are 404's that you want, or if not you might create 301 redirects, etc. Hope that helps!

Linking root and domain authority
To increase linking root domains you need to develop a link building strategy. Basically great content + exposure will help you gain these links. There are lots of ways that you can develop content that people will want to link to and there are lots of link building strategies. I would suggest searching on here for link building and have a look at both blog posts and Q&A for some ideas and an in depth insight. Once you have started gaining more links you will increase your domain authority automatically. To give specific link building ideas I and I am sure the rest of the community would need to have some more information on your site and what niche you target.

Show root domain (that is 301 redirected) in SERP?
Adam I didn’t really find out any good resource to back my opinion but I have worked with multiple sites and I can say that when you 301 redirect multiple domains on different pages of your website it gives Google a suspicious clue about your authenticity and trust as most spammers use this tactic in order to grab traffic and rankings for many fat head key phrases… As far as my knowledge goes canonical should not have a negative impact at all as this s a way of telling Google what is the original version of the content and there is a fair possibility that a great content can be reused at 100s of times….

What is your mobile website strategy?
Hey Gerd I tend to feel that in most cases a responsive design is going to be the best approach or failing that, an automated mobile site much like WPTouch for WordPress. There are lots of reasons why I feel different mobile sites are a bad approach and just the physical management of two (or three) sites along with the optimisation etc is reason enough for most businesses to want to simplify their approach with a responsive site. As ever though, there are always a lot of moving parts and the right answer is the answer that is right for the specific business. For us, we use WPTouch on the back of WordPress and will be moving to a fully responsive site when we next do a redesign. I rattled out some of my thoughts on mobile sites and SEO here: http://www.bowlerhat.co.uk/blog/responsive-web-design/ I think the very fact that responsive is Google's preferred approach is reason enough for most people to take that approach. Couple that with the simplification in the management and reduced workload over running multiple sites then it is the most common sense option for most folks. Of course, this does not stop you serving up content via specific applications on smart phones and other devices but that is really outside the scope of SEO considerations. Just my tuppence / 5 cents! Cheers Marcus

My Site Is Using A Lot of Hosting Bandwidth. Suggestions?
Something doesn't sound right there. You can't have 3112 unique visits from 12093 unique visitors, unless your log file program is using those terms in a different way. If your log file program lets you, you should be able to see which files haven been using the most bandwidth.
