  • Hmm Well, I'm not that technical either, I just know a little bit about 301's Try this in stead of the second code snippet: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.domain\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]

  • Hi Alexander. I took a look at your site and have some feedback: your site is presently available in both the www and non-www format. This is a big issue and should be promptly fixed. I agree with Alan in that the site should be presented in http:// format when possible. Your site will seem faster to users as images from a secure site are not cached, for example. your trust symbols in the footer are important but the coloring is very challenging. I couldn't even tell you had SSL from GoDaddy until I moused over and saw the URL. your LinkedIn widget is set for the LinkedIn home page rather then your company's page. you may want to consider moving your social sharing and trust symbols above the fold. I love a good, clear Call To Action but I don't care for the two "Buy Now" buttons on your home page. In your "What is Suretegrity" block you use bold for words such as "all" and "only". I would suggest using bold on keywords and not adjectives. Now that I have seemingly blasted your site, please let me share that I do like your site. I like the name, your BBB involvement, your social engagement, etc. I list the above items as opportunities for improvement.

  • OK. I tried now the "Configuration > Crawler Access" but it still show Nov 8th. Then, I took the risk, and clicked on "Fetch as Googlebot" - Taddam, I'm okay I also able to resubmit the sitemaps XML.

  • Thanks. We're not trying to trick anything, but we're thinking about the effects it has. Some cases where we might NOT want to give link equity to frame content (internally or externally) and for internal content perhaps set up a robots rule as this might be incomplete pages we don't want indexed. Thanks!

  • This all depends on what your site is written in. We have an extensive guide for Apache, and in this post, Jen links to several other rewrites in different languages.

  • Yes, they do need the meta tag: While you can use robots.txt to block bots, the problem is URLs can still show up in Google searches (minus any information) and this can create an easy playground for hackers. Check out the section here called: "Why Meta Robots is better than robots.txt"

  • Google will also pick up on dates on comments, and sometimes it seems to randomly pick dates. Graywolf has done some testing around this and WordPress.

  • Google says that what happens on AdWords doesn't affect your SEO and vice versa. As far as incoming links from other sites, no. You should check to see if Google does index these linking sites, because if they don't, then there's no link juice coming in from them at all. If they are indexed, but labeled as spammy/junk, they just won't pass any positive link juice.

  • they are not at the moment - the blog is hosted on wordpress so the link goes back to that site. Should i add them with HTML or as PDF to my site?

  • Hi michelleh The solution given by Dan above is the most reliable method as robots.txt will not block pages that googlebot finds via an external link to the page. Given the reasoning behind your desire to noindex, reliability is extremely important. Also, you want "noindex, follow" rather than "noindex, nofollow" as the nofollow will trap any link value coming into the pages (from both internal and external links) and stop it from flowing through the site. Hope that helps, Sha
