  • Sarah, I have been using this tool: www.spyfu.com , specifically their recon files application to do competitive key word research.  Once I extract key words form this report I use their Keyword smart search tool. Hope this helps, Ron

  • Hi, many thanks for your response. Yes I am sure I selected the exact match option before. However, is there away to select Borad Match in the new Keyword Planner to see if this displays similar levels of traffic to that I received earlier, in order to double check.

  • You may also want to try Google Trends. This will give you a much larger view if you are looking for trends over a couple of years in order to identify patterns over months.

  • Update: I checked exact match search volume on Bing using the past 30 days and on Google AdWords keyword planner using average monthly searches. For "advertising sales", Google gives me 480 and Bing gives me 11,224. Can someone offer ideas of why the issue is continuing?

  • Hi As an interesting free tool have a look at Ubersuggest which pulls keyword searches from Google Suggest. KeywordEye seems to be talked about a fair bit in my circles recently, but I haven't used it before. It's a subscription tool. Market Samurai is a download and install, pay once tool that's been popular but I don't hear it talked about so much these days. I'm sure others will suggest some worth looking at. Peter

  • Doing research on this right now. Given the vast majority of free tools have query limitations. The following appears at present to be the strongest solutions: free - https://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/searches, http://soovle.com, http://ubersuggest.org, http://keywordsuggest.org/, http://www.google.com/trends/ free & paid solution - http://www.keywordeye.com $9.99 pro per month free 10 day trial - longtailpro.com quality paid solutions - http://www.semrush.com $79.95 per month, http://www.wordtracker.com $69 per month, Some of the paid services functionality overlap moz.com so it would not be worth paying just for just a keyword suggestion/scraper tool in my opinion.

  • I do find this a little clunky compared to other available tools sadly. I have had it for 12 months and never really use it.

  • Eoin, If you have you Google analytics synced to your Moz Analytics, you can go to Search | Keyword Rankings and then click on the Opportunities tab ( in the old moz pro its: Overview | manage keywords | find new keywords ) and get a list of keywords that people found you site for in the past 30 days.  It doesn't give you your rankings for any of those terms unless you add them to your keyword list but it does give you some other good info about the term.  Remember though, this keyword data is getting less and less as Google basically not providing it in their google analytics any longer.

  • OK, Forgive me if I am wrong. But I think the question you are asking is less of a technical one. From a quick search it would seem you have no Google Local account and that you may be unfamiliar with Google Local? Its like Google's version of the yellow pages directory. All you have to do is create an account at the link below https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1713911?hl=en This will then associate your website with your local listing and Google will be able to apply your address and other features to your search results. Is that what you where asking about?

  • Bear in mind Patrick, you need to be careful with keyword cannibalisation with titling inner pages like this. If many of your pages have 'City Web Design' in the title there could be conflict with the page that you are targeting that term for (usually the home page).  I would avoid this myself on pages such as About Us, Contact, News, Blog, etc. and probably  just something like use: About Us | Company Name

  • Thanks all for your responses on this. I do have Screaming Frog but not the paid version. However, my need was fairly simple in that a client asked us to remove all references from their website to a location of one of their offices that they had now shut. So nothing black hat or detailed required. Rather I was just looking for a tool that would do a simple yet comprehensive search of their site so I could make sure we have removed all references. Thanks though all of you for your help. Peter

  • It's true that you can see search queries in Webmaster Tools - but don't forget that it will only show you queries that you already rank for. If you want to research new keywords to target you will need to use another tool. Check out my recent blog post http://moz.com/blog/keyword-volume-tools for more on that topic.

  • Thank you, Peter. I will analyze sites 3-6 and try to figure out what happened. I appreciated all of the help.

  • Hi - The best of all is Google Adwords - Keyword Planner. You can access it from adwords.google.com. In there under options 'Tools & Analysis' -> 'Keyword Planner'. In there, the option I use is 'Search for new keywords and adgroup ideas'. Here you can give your keywords and google give you suggestions. Now start filtering by what is more relevant for you and go with it. Regards, K

  • Hi Tony, the video seems up to date (or near to) as far as I can see. It shows the breadth of things that Moz can do in terms of keyword research. I am wondering if you are referring to keyword suggestion? That is one area which Moz's tools don't provide much support with other than on the Find New Keywords tab which only lists keywords that your Google Analytics reports your site has been found for. What Moz's tools don't do is take a seed keyword and provide suggestions based on that seed that you may also optimise for. Peter

  • Hi There - all superb answers so far - thanks guys! Can you give an example of any of your keywords? I have seen some long tail keywords be ultra high competitive, and others not. I have also seen some "long tail" with very low search volume but are only short 2-3 word phrases. There are transactional and information long tails. A little more specifics would help with some suggestions
