  • I think you are right here... and yes, I think a change of strategy is required in light of the way Google is heading with this latest update and how other similar sites are suffering. I am starting to formulate a plan, and your response kind of reinforced it.

  • Good advice. Still think mobilegeddon is going to hit big and soon. Glad for this brief transition before Google makes good on their promise. We are working on quotes for other companies that don't understand the possible repercussions of upgrading to responsive site, even though their business is already impacted by refusal to use and work with the tools Google supplies to optimize their site. Thanks

  • I'm going to assume you're talking about another, smaller website in the same industry. We call these "satellite" websites and, generally speaking, they're not a good idea. As Bryan Leo mentioned below, there are some exceptions to the rule but without knowing more about what you're trying to do I would have to answer "no". Like Martjin said, it would be better to increase your efforts on your main site than to spread them across multiple sites in the same niche.

  • Hi Patrick, Thanks for the advice. It's only that we have 500+ categories and 7.500+ products. Would it be a good option to start with the automated meta's > take our SEO profits > work our way up from top level and update them manualy daily? Our doesn't the automated way improve some quick wins for the timebeing? Thanks!

  • Hi Justin Ask yourself: Do all of these 39 pages individually provide value? Can you condense these pages into 6? Have you considered a content audit? Have you checked your rankings for these 39 pages? Check Google & Bing Webmaster Tools / SEMRush Your organic traffic? Check analytics Do these pages have good backlinks? Check Majestic / Open Site Explorer Longer content has correlations with better rankings based on some studies Backlinko ranking study Searchmetrics ranking study This is a big decision and a big undertaking. You need to assess the value of these pieces - you said so yourself they are pretty well done. But, if they can be condensed into these six pieces and you have a plan in place to do so, then good luck! But, if you find in your assessment that there is user / search value to these pages, then you need to take a comb through everything and really make sure this is the route you want to take. There are definitely risks. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • The solution is simple. Remember usability is key to the user experience. If you have a blog then place the blog/ in the URL. Think of an e-commerce website. You want to categorize items correctly. You don't want customers finding fridges in the microwaves category

  • Are these "Blogs" going to be under the same TLD? I would suggest doing one property that focuses on everything about the product: reviews, information, application stories, etc. that way you can create one giant ball of authority on everything that has to do with that product.  -  If tracking in google analytic there are ways to split out and see what type of content is contributing the most to the bottom line.

  • Hey Joseph Google actually provides a resource on assisting you in getting in Google News. You can read that here. I would also suggest checking out Schema's NewsArticle markup. This can also help crawlers see that content is news related. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions or comments - good luck!

  • OK, what is your goal for the different articles? i.e. social sharing, ranking for particular keywords, attracting links, or something else? Once you know the goal of particular articles you can think about how to write them to achieve those goals (noting you may want to do all the goals suggested above, just focus on one goal per article). So lets go through some suggested titles: Social sharing:  10 Pieces of Furniture you couldn't do without.  No. 7 will blow your mind! Keyword ranking (more natural traffic)  - How to clean red wine off your settee. Links - More detailed articles that go in more depth than the other articles, often helpful but could involve ideas from the other articles so something like - "How to know you are paying the right price for your furniture" Whatever you do when ranking for keywords, is check out the competition and make sure your article is better, so looks nice, contains better information, and is more helpful.  For more ideas, just check out what your competition is writing about, and take some ideas and just make the articles 10 times better bringing in more \ different concepts and information so it is totally original.

  • How much of the content is actually yours and how much is copied from other places. Did you use spun articles? If the website an autoblog? Either way, i would say the penalty is correct and your website is spam (if you can't prove otherwise).

  • I had a problem with hidden content on a review plugin I was using (they have since changed it) due to tabs.  I can confirm that none of the reviews were indexed that were behind hidden tabs. So, no I would definitely not hide text now that Google doesn't see it.  If you want to test what Google will see and take into account, use the Google Render tool in Webmaster tools.

  • Try the DYNO Mapper sitemap generator. It has a plugin built for Wordpress that can authenticate and crawl all of your pages within your Wordpress site or any additional sub-domains that you have. This is great because most large website contain several websites on sub-domains and cms systems. It also includes Google Analytics and Content Audit features to check for bad links and errors. It can export your XML sitemaps for search engines and HTML for your website. 110649952
