One more vote for Wordpress. If it's good enough for some of the major SEO companies out there to use as their blogging platform then it's good enough for a little pest control guy like me.

RE: Will a PDF Pass PageRank?
Very interesting discussion indeed. I wonder if "creating a workpath" for text would make it easier to read. But I guess a OCR is going to have a difficult time associating the actual text with the link regardless.

RE: Will a PDF Pass PageRank?
I'll help you by adding one.

... And a thumbs up well spent.

RE: Buying a new domain
To add to this great advice... Per Matt Cutts any Domain that has requested not to be included in the archive.org throws up red flags.

RE: How do you limit the number of keywords that will be researched
Do they have a sells team? Someone who talks to the customers? I would interview that individual to find out who they esteem to be the perfect customer. Ask them about the verbiage the clients use and the questions they have. If they have had a website long enough then you can dig through their site's traffic and analytics to find keywords that produce quality visitors. Longer visits, volume, etc. The bonus to this is that if they are already generating some traffic for those keywords then you should be able to boost those rankings.

RE: Google Penalty?
If you have a site that has been matched with a brand then Google will rarely remove your site entirely from the index. Take JC Penny for example. They didn't suffer any rankings for the term JC Penny. They suffered rankings for other terms that they had been building bad links for. Monitoring your keyword rankings and noticing large drops in positions on a per keyword base might give you a better idea if you have been hit with a penalty.

RE: If a page one result for a keyword is mostly directories, do I have a chance to rank for this keyword?
You can outrank directories. You may even find that those results are easier to gain as Google likes to blend their results.

RE: Value of Twitter Links
I have wonder the same thing. It seemed more obvious when there were page ranks assigned to a twitter account.
As far as the URL showing in Google. I can not find any URLs in google that contain the http://twitter.com/#!/
I would also speculate that twitter handles that have a lot of inbound links are going to prove more valuable for link building.

RE: Value of Twitter Links
That is an awesome example. It would probably help to know which hashtags are being used as feeds on other sites as well. And creating your own feeds means more amplification... Good stuff.

RE: Bad IP Neighborhood Question
I do have an example of a site that I launched that normally would have done really well with an exact match domain and original content. However I could not seem to get the site to rank. I wondered if it was that the site was hosted in a bad "neighborhood" because the IP had some adult sites on it as well (not mine). Or if the problem was that the site was hosted in too much of a cluster of similar sites so as to appear as a network of sites.
I would also argue that with the Panda update that links from bad neighborhoods can hurt you.

RE: Anyone sad to see Adwords Position Preference Go?
Yes. That did seem to happen. Wasn't sure on some of the search terms I targeted if that happened just because of the lack of competition.

RE: What's your favorite link building tactic?
1 - Meeting other local business owners and sharing a few promising thoughts on internet marketing then asking them for links.
2- Guest blogging. I love guest blogging!

RE: What is a Class C Subnet and why should I care?
I feel that the IP of links is a fairly low ranking factor. But if all of your links were coming from the same IP then your site would be throwing up some red flags.

Anyone sad to see Adwords Position Preference Go?
Is Google saying, "Why keep offering a service that doesn’t work?" or "Let's make more money."?

RE: Exact match domain or root domain for speedy SEO?
Managing one domain is much easier. But there are some benefits to having exact match domains. Do you want to run a lot of stop and go short sprints, or one steady marathon?

RE: Which version of pages should I build links to?
Have you had any luck with your flash pages getting ranked? Build links to the pages that are getting ranked. Don't fight an uphill battle.

RE: Phrase Match
If phrase match = "red cars"
Google will show your ad for phrases that contain the exact phrase "red cars".
So the search "Songs about red cars" would show your ads.
Your two examples: "cars that are red" and "cars with red" don't actually contain your exact phrase "red cars" so they should not be showing up. Your negative keywords should still apply to the phrase match.

RE: Does anyone have a good resource for learning PPC?
It's a little dated as far as the images and interface info, but "The Ultimate Guide to Adwords" published by Entrepreneur Press is a fantastic book for teaching PPC fundamentals.

RE: Dirty Link Profile - Suggestions?
If the bad links are not currently hurting then I wouldn't worry too much about them hurting them in the future. I would advise the owner of the site of what you have found, explain the risks, and then offer him your advice. Not that you are excusing yourself if you advise them poorly, but knowing the risks upfront makes it easier if something does go wrong later.
