Thanks but I think Robots.txt is correct.  Excert from http://www.robotstxt.org/robotstxt.html

To exclude all robots from the entire server

To allow all robots complete access

(or just create an empty "/robots.txt" file, or don't use one at all)

Hi,

We have majorly redesigned our site.  Is is not a big site it is a SaaS site so has the typical structure, Landing, Features, Pricing, Sign Up, Contact Us etc...

The main part of the site is after login so out of google's reach.

Since the new release a month ago, google has indexed some pages, mainly the blog, which is brand new, it has reindexed a few of the original pages I am guessing this as if I click cached on a site: search it shows the new site.

All new pages (of which there are 2) are totally missed.  One is HTTP and one HTTPS, does HTTPS make a difference.

I have submitted the site via webmaster tools and it says "URL and linked pages submitted to index" but a site: search doesn't bring all the pages?

What is going on here please?  What are we missing?  We just want google to recognise the old site has gone and ALL the new site is here ready and waiting for it.

Hi thanks.  And for a landing page.  Should they be long or short. 1000 words or 300 words?  Does google have any preferences for landing pages

So, I am a bit confused as to which way to turn now.

We are a new site, no backlinks except DMOZ (done today!).  What should we do next, what should we be aiming for...1 link high quality link per day, 20 per day...50?  Our competitors have thousands of external links.

It sounds a bit like google's world has changed recently and less is more nowadays, is that right.  Is it quality over quantity and if so how many quality links should we aim for.

Any advice on how to start this task and where we should end up is welcomed.

Hi thanks for the response.  They promote semi automated.  From what I can see, you still have to submit to "good" directories but they make this easier.  Does this make it better?

Our website is new.  We need links fast (but not to fast so its bad).

Hi,

We have come across this tool that we are considering using for some of our blog posts. We will still continue posting our own post blogs weekly, we will just use this if we come across anything interesting.  Our concern is it will produce duplicate content from other sites.  We are very new to blogging.

Our website is developed in .NET.  We need to add a new "out the box" blog module.  Is there such a thing as a blog module that is good for SEO.  For example updatable Page Titles and Title Tags etc.  If so can anyone recommend one

Thanks for the response.  So I am 100% clear, what you are saying.  Would this be a good plan of attack? Get the site A graded by SEOMoz tools.  Forget about directory submissions unless they are top notch.  Forget about articles totally.  Once the site is A graded concentrate on the Blog content and make it a) interesting to our users b) add keywords into the blog as per LSI blog writing techniques.

Incidentally we are an online invoicing company which is a fairly dull subject to blog about, any ideas how to make our blog interesting?  And is it more important that google finds it "interesting" from a SEO point of view rather than humans?

From the screenshot below I have signed up to "Plan 1".  I am not happy with the company and think I can do this better myself using SEOMoz.  My questions are.  Ignoring the one off tasks listed.

Which of the Monthly tasks is the most important, which is the second most important etc?

Is there any that can be ignored or are any now detrimental to SEO?

Is there anything that is not on the list that maybe there should be?

In summary I am trying to workout how hard and how much time and effort it will take to go it alone using SEOMoz for guidance?

Thanks Dan, great answer particularly about the bounce rate, this is not something I had considered.

As you are someone who is clearly experienced in blogging what would your thought be if I started to a) blog about small business and news that interests them (as these are my main users) and b) what are google's rules on me taking great content from elsewhere on the internet and adding it to my blog.  Is this encouraged or frowned upon?  If its frowned upon where do other website owner get there content from if they don.t have the time or skills to write it?

I am very very new to bloging as you probably have guessed and any tips from you would be much appreciated.

thank you all for your great answers.  The issue is that the blogs are for an Online Invoicing website so they are not very interesting to read, they are for SEO purposes only really.  They are readable and natural and there for people to read, but unfortunately the subject is just a bit dull

We have a new blog, we write 4 blogs per month and have been posting all 4 in one go at the same time per month.  Would it be more beneficial to post the blogs 1 per week or does it not matter?

Also, is 4 blog 250 word blogs per month enough or should we be doing more?
