Pure spam Manual Action by Google
That's great news that you got the penalty revoked. It can often take a few days for the manual spam actions viewer to show that there is no longer a penalty. Also, keep an eye on the manual spam actions viewer. I've seen a number of sites lately that got a pure spam penalty revoked and then a few days or weeks later got either a thin content penalty or an unnatural links penalty. Hopefully that's not the case for you though!

Google Manual Action Disappear
I've seen this happen several times. What probably has happened is that your penalty has expired. All manual penalties do expire. For some it can take months and for others it can take years. When it expires you get no notification that anything has happened other than the manual spam actions viewer shows no webspam actions. You still want to make sure that you have done as thorough a job as possible. If you happen to get another manual review and you still have unnatural links then you'll get penalized again and often the second penalty is worse than the first. Also, if you had not done enough cleanup to pass previously then it means that there are still unnatural links that could affect you with the Penguin algorithm. Now, one other possibility. I have seen a couple of instances where there is some incongruity between the manual spam actions viewer and the messaging system and one changes a day or two before the other. It's more common to have it happen the other way where you get the message that your penalty has been revoked and then it takes a few days for the viewer to show it rather than having the viewer show no penalty and the message appears afterwards. But, I don't think this is the case for you guys as it sounds like you were not waiting for a response from Google.

Will Redirection of Unnatural Links to the New Domain will work?
But if you're redirecting the old domain, no one will be able to land on it and it won't rank for anything.

Un Natural Links Removal Strategy
It happens A lot of links are hard to remove. If you're sure you have a penalty from links, I'd build a list of those links you've tried to remove, submit a disavow file to Google, and explain what happened in a reconsideration request. In that request include where the links came from, what you've done, and how you'll continue to clean things up and play by the rules in the future.

Broad Match Search Volume
No problem Ruchi and thanks for the info. Its time to educate the clients Broad match search volume numbers can be very, very misleading and the client should know about what broad match is all about and how it cannot help them, of course we need to first ask them what is that they want to do with those numbers. Good luck. Best, Devanur Rafi

Article Distribution will consider as duplicate by Google
I agree with Chris's statement. A good way to integrate this into your website would be to publish the title, a few highlighted paragraphs, and a link directing users to the full post. Your website visitors will see that you're actively blogging and can consume the content, but you won't need to worry about stepping on any toes of the original publishers. Many publishers have policies regarding republishing content that they accept, so check there first.

Google Local Places and Organic Listing?
I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to respond and say I would choose a local blended result vs organic listing. It would seem that it is easier to hold on to local listings, as organic listings are more prone to change and movement in the SERPS. I feel I can generally count on local listings to rank vs organic listings.

Site wide links Concept
It's all about link profile. GoDaddy may appear to get away with site footer links on domain holding pages, but they have a massive link profile, not least of which they gained during the whole SOPA/PIPA outrage. Chances are it's not harming their ranking overly much, but it certainly isn't helping it much either. Whereas a small web designer with a site wide footer link on every site they create could well have those as the vast majority of the total links - leading to a heavily skewed and very unnatural link profile. Now then I'm sure that some of the larger web design and service outfits got where they are with the help of site wide footer links, site widgets etc, but Google moved the goalposts so you can't take that route any more.

Website having same business and IP address
Hi Ruchi, As Tom addressed most of your queries, I would like to say something regarding your following enquiry: "Also please elaborate best practices(Such as IP address, Physical address, look and feel etc.) if someone wants to run same business through more than one website?" Here, your intent and goals matter. For example, a business entity intends to occupy multiple places in the SERPs using multiple websites for the same search terms. I would never recommend this practice to anyone. If you are targeting a set of keywords or phrases, do that using one single domain and put all your SEO efforts towards building it and try to make it an authority in the niche. This should be the long term goal. In the past, I have had clients who had an SEO strategy like the following: 1. One target keyword. 2. Multiple websites targeting the same keyword. 3. Occupy multiple places in the top 10 Google search results. This strategy is very hard to fly these days in Google. This strategy used to be lucrative for some seasonal sale kind of businesses, who did not care about their websites once the season ended or their stock cleared, it is not at all recommended if you are here for a long-haul. Personally, I have seen such strategies working for quite a while and then either all of them or most of those websites (pack of websites from the same business entity) being thrown out of index or penalized. Please note that some of the clients used all the tactics under the Sun to erase the traces of association among these websites and tried to make them look as if they were being operated by different business entities. Few such traces include but not limited to: a. same IP b. same whois info c. same website templates d. design and flow similarities e. same analytics tracking info f. logging or accessing these websites from same geo-location, systems g. browsing history and access patterns. h. no cross linking etc.. Though using methods like the above can buy you sometime before the axe comes down, we should refrain ourselves from all the unethical ways or loopholes to trick search engines and their algorithms. It is one of the daily tasks of a good SEO professioinal to set the right SEO perspective to his clients. He should learn to say, 'No' to any such proposals made by the client to trick the search engines. The recommended strategy would be: 1. One business 2. One informative and useful website 3. Rich content. By all possible means, include useful videos, pdfs and infographics. 3. Strong link profile acquired through editorial, natural, voluntary backlink, citations, ethical link building activities using share worthy and link worthy content. 4. Strong social media presence. 5. Solid search engine presence and ranking. Hope that helps. Best regards, Devanur Rafi.

Running Google Ads on the website will impact the Rankings?
I run leaderboard ads above the design, a skyscraper at top left and a rectangle below the first photo in the right column. All of these are visible above the fold. My rankings are great in lots of very difficult SERPs. The important thing is.... These ads to not compete with my content. My content is clearly visible and perfectly obvious to everyone and anyone who lands on the page. Also, the ads are not the dumb, irritating, provocative, suggestive stuff that would put off lots of people. Bottom line... its not HOW MANY. Instead... it is WHERE and WHAT.

How to claim in Google for Duplicate Design Layout?
If your theme is your property i.e custom design then I'd recommend you start by e-mailing the website and asking them to remove your property, then send a DMCA to their host. Finally if all else fails one to Google but be sure you've got proof that you own the design in question. You can read more about the DMCA rules for Web Designs here - http://www.digital-web.com/articles/dmca_and_take_down_notices/

Keywords Ranking Dropped
Just a quick reply that the disavow tool is (according to Google themselves) there as a last resort for link removal, not as a first step. It's to be used only after you've done everything you can to contact site owners to remove the bad links.

Keywords ranking are lost!!
Chitra, I deleted the other question so that this question could be contained to just one thread. You've asked this in the Q&A area, which is filled with other Pro members like you, and a few SEOmoz Associates. None of us are mind readers though, so we need some more information from you (like your website URL and keywords) to be able to help you diagnose what is happening.
