I think any directory that is either niche relevant or local is still valuable! Especially in terms of local optimization because they also serve as citations!

RE: Are directory listings still appropriate in 2013? Aren't they old-style SEO and Penguin-worthy?

RE: Will Google penalize my website if I hide the H1 tag?
I assume not. I believe Google will just use your first line of content as the H1! I think Rand did a video on this not too long ago. I don't think he believes H1s were very important.

RE: If I switch my domain name, will I keep link juice from redirect?
Thanks Tom! I thought so, just wanted to make sure. The domain with dashes doesn't have a spammy link profile, just a spammy url
We finally got our hands on the non-hyphenated version! Thanks for the help!

If I switch my domain name, will I keep link juice from redirect?
I am moving one of my sites wellington-florida-homes.com to a new domain (wellingtonfloridahomes.com). Most of our link-juice is coming from another domain we purchased (theshockleyteam.com) that is redirected to our primary site. If I simply redirect theshockleyteam.com to our new domain (wellingtonfloridahomes.com) I will still have the link juice passing through, right?
Thanks!

Page dropped from 4 to outside top 50, but now present in Places listings.
Whoa! In one week, I had a clients site drop from number 4 to outside of the top 50 in rankings. So confused! Also, the site is now showing up in the local results section (which it wasnt before). Does Google drop your site if your site appears in local results? Did the local result replace the ranking?

RE: My best links not showing in Open Site Explorer
A bit disappointing....I am seeing a deeper more comprehensive link profile using Small SEO Tools backlink checker

RE: PR Releases? Do they help your SEO?
From what I have heard/read, Google's seems to want you to believe that press release links are not valued, but from what I have seen they definitely seem to have some impact on rankings. Maybe they have turned down the tuners on links from press release sites, but they certainly seem to have SOME positive effects.
Just my thoughts!

How do you optimize your site for surrounding areas?
For example, If I am optimizing a site for a dentist in West Palm Beach, Florida (the primary city) how do I ensure I am also optimizing my site for the smaller cities/towns that are part of West Palm Beach like Royal Palm Beach, Wellington etc.?
If I am using "West Palm Beach" in my site and page titles etc., how do I also rank for the smaller cities? What are the basic tactics in terms of on-site and linking?
For instance, lets say I offer Botox in West Palm Beach...how do I also optimize for Wellington, Royal Palm Beach and other local cities? Do I really have to create unique Botox content for each city?
Thanks!
