Hello EGOL,

Hello Greg,
Thank you for your answer! Yes promoting and sharing the content makes sense.
Hello fellow Mozzers!
I'm still new to the SEO game and have been doing lots of reading and research about SEO. From what I've learned nowadays it all comes down to great content and links that come from it. I have to admit I'm a visual learner, I need to see it to understand and learn better. I was hoping that someone can provide some examples of GREAT Content (whether its a blog post, page, article, etc...) I know EGOL is one of the most valuabe SEOMoz users and by reading his forum responses he always advises to write great content to build links... Hoping EGOL and other SEOMoz users would be so kind to share an example or two of what they think is great content.
One more question (related). Since all the Google updates this year in regards to links and content, I've read numerous times on this Q&A forum that great content gets links, and that submitting articles to directories or buying links doesn't work anymore or at least not something that a whitehat SEO should implement for a long term strategy, does that mean that if you publish great content on your site that is informative, unique and valuable it will get you links without submitting to directories or buying links? Is it really that simple?
Thank you in advance!
Igor
Marcus, thank you so much for the suggestions, they are excellent!!!
Hello Marcus!
Can you please let me know how you found those ideas related to progesterone cream. Did you use Google keyword tool or some other tool(s)? I did a Google search for progesterone cream but it did not return those topics for me. I'm very curious about finding relative keywords for my site. Thank you in advance!
Hello Aidan,
Understood. 1 -2 keywords + company name is the most optimal.
Hello Aidan,
I believe you should create a title that looks better to human eyes as well as contain 1 or 2 keywords. You do need a space between words or a seperator otherwise it looks confusing to humans and might not rank properly with search engines. In your example I would use something like this:
Chocolate Cake Recipe or Best Chocolate Cake Recipe or
Chocolate Cake Recipes, etc...
keep in mind that singular and plurals are not the same for Search Engines its 2 entirely different keywords
Create another page for the Xmas Cake or Xmas Chocolate Cake or Xmas Chocolate Cake Recipe
Basically what you need to do is Keyword Research to see which keyword phrase has the most searches with lowest competition and that is the keyword you want to start targeting. Without keyword research you're just assuming that users search for that information. For example Chocolate Cake Recipe gets 1000 searches a month versus Easy or 10 Minute Chocolate Cake Recipe gets 10,000 searches a month you might be missing out on a lot of potential traffic if you haven't done your keyword research. I strongly recommend using SEOMoz keyword difficulty tool as well as Market Samurai (they have training videos on how to perform keyword research that are excellent). And try to stick with 1 to 2 keyword/phrases per title.
Hope this helps!
Hi Jean,
Thanks for the info. I installed the tool, and ran it on my site, I think we found a winner! My site came up with 290 errors... I ran a few other big sites and a lot of have some errors. How important SEO and performance wise are these errors? We are using wordpress with a purchased template... Since there are so many errors not even sure where to begin...
Hi Kevin,
Thanks, I will certainly take a look!
Hi Jean,
Thanks for your reply! When you refer to errors on trojans and durex sites, are you referring to code (html/css) errors?
Thanks!
Thank you Donnie, that's a great suggestion!
Hello everyone!
I have a question whether we can use these types of images on our site without putting an 18 and over disclaimer.
http://www.onetouchcondoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/dreamstime_m_23674313-e1345035613207.jpg
http://www.onetouchcondoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/onetouch1.jpg
The site is for the next generation condom
In case we do need to put a disclaimer 18 and over, and technically the disclaimer page would become the home page with 2 links one to exit and one to enter site. However what about SEO wise would that make it a lot more difficult for us since the home page is not a content page anymore and a disclaimer page instead?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Understood, thanks!
Hi Donnie,
The 320 volume is the local search exact match, however the broad match on IT Services Los Angeles is much higher, should I focus on the exact match instead of the broad match when choosing keywords?
Hello Donnie,
Thank you for such a quick answer!
I did another search on keyword difficulty tool IT Support Los Angeles vs IT Services Los Angeles and IT Services Los Angeles gets much more traffic, take a look:
Would it better to use something like this:
IT Services and Support in Los Angeles by Company name?
Also in your expert opinion:
How many keywords or keyword phrases do you recommend including in the titles?
Most of my competitors have a bunch of locations/cities that they service in their footers, like IT Support Los Angeles, IT Support Sherman Oaks, IT Support Encino, etc... as well as pointing to the same page (which from what I understand is duplicate content) and too many footer links. However 4 out 5 use them and I don't think they've been penalyzed as they've been holding the top 5 spots for some time now. Should I try the same tactic or avoid it and hoping that by not using these techniques it should help in outranking them?
Thanks again!
Hello fellow mozzers!
I've been struggling with my title tag and would like to get your opinion.
We provide IT services in the Los Angeles area. I've been doing keyword research for the past week and found about 400 keywords from various sources. I then looked at my top 5 competitors on Google and analyzed their homepage title tags, the most common keywords that they use in their title tags are:
IT Support Los Angeles
Computer Support Los Angeles
Network Consulting Los Angeles
Network Support Los Angeles
IT Services Los Angeles
Since it is recommended to have your title tag under 70 characters I've compiled the following title tag for my home page:
IT Services, Network Consulting, IT and Network Support in Los Angeles
which is exactly 70 characters, however my company name is an additional 9 characters, I think it would be wise to include in the title tag of the home page however I can't decide if I should exceed the limit by including the company name to the title tag or should I remove something from the title tag and then add the company name?
1. What do you guys think, is that a good title tag to use as is?
2. Should I add the company name without removing any keywords or remove a keyword?
3. I'm trying to target local traffic since I can't compete with the big dogs yet, so I want to be in the SERPs when someone searches IT Services Los Angeles, IT Support Los Angeles, etc... Do I need to add Los Angeles after each keyword, or I can use a single instance of Los Angeles like in the example title tag that I have?
4. For the other remaining 400+/- keywords I want to use some of them to create static pages and some for blog posts, is that the way to go?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you!!!
Hi Michelle!
EGOL has provided an excellent answer, however I do want to add one more thing. Like you I'm also struggling to find keywords for my site that are not too competitive or too difficult to try to get a piece of that pie. I found Market Samurai software to help find niche keywords using their "Golden Rules" Take a look at their training videos here:http://www.noblesamurai.com/dojo/marketsamurai/
Under Keyword Research
They walk through a real life example of keyword research and show you how to pick the right keywords, and the ones you want to avoid especially if you are a beginner.
Hope this helps!
I've been looking and asking for a good guide to keyword research myself here on SEOmoz and other forums. After reading many posts I was able to narrow down to 2 must have references/tools for keyword research.
1. The Art of SEO book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-SEO-Eric-Enge/dp/1449304214/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1339725028&sr=8-11
2. Market Samurai video tutorials: http://www.noblesamurai.com/dojo/marketsamurai/
Under keyword research there are quite a few videos that show you how to do keyword research...
Also I strongly recommend their tool as well as it can save you hours if not days if you were trying to get all that information manually...
Hope this helps!
Hi there,
I think if you were to create a page with a DOWNLOAD link/button to the pdf file (put some info about the file and the benefits of why someone should download it, maybe also put social media share buttons), and then have vistiors/users link to that page or share that page via social media instead of the file you would get a lot more benefits.
Hi there,
Google does penalize for duplicate content... I assume you want to do some A/B testing, is that why you have 2 home pages (indexa.php and indexb.php), correct? If so I would remove the 2nd duplicate home page until you have another unique home page to the A/B testing. (I'm not 100% sure as I've never done A/B testing myself, but I think you need to set it up in your GWT account so that Google is aware that you're doing A/B testing, I might be incorrect on this)
Also use the SEOMoz Open Site Explorer: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ See if you have any bad/negative links that might of reduced your rankings.
Hope this helps!
