Hello fellow Mozzers!

I was wondering if anyone knows if this would be legal to do? Can we use a part of a movie or a TV show lets say 10-15 seconds in our commercials for the website? We are selling a product that has been shown (non branded) in many movies and TV shows that characters have a  funny and hard time using and so do many millions of people. We want to create short 30 second video ads and post them on youtube and our site. The 30 second video would include a part of a movie or a TV show unedited of course. Tried to search the web but couldn't find any real answers, thought maybe some of you have some knowledge or input on this subject.

Not sure to be honest with you. By clicking on a Good Answer it will automatically mark the question as Answered... But people other members still can and often do reply after its marked as answered.

I would leave it as is...

only if it will benefit and/or improve user experience, otherwise your stuffing keywords and might get penalized by Google... If you had an image of some band performaing, then adding the band's name to ALT tag, that would be ok. but adding some keywords for a view more button is not recommended unless its on a dedicated page like in the example I used for the lakers page...

Your competitor decided to this themselves, instead of going out and buying links, they're doing it on a much smaller scale then if they were to purchase 1000s of links, so Google might not catch them right away, but its a matter of time until their rankings go down...

Yes, that is always the toughest thing to accomplish. What you need to explain to them is focusing on amazing content that will be beneficial to your customers is far more important than concentrating on getting links that are of no value and can get you in trouble with Google...

Getting a link to your site from a self made EWD domain with a blog that doesn't have any PR, PA, & DA is absolutely a waste of time and most likely will get you penalized...

Ok I see... I thought by your original question you meant for a specific event page for example if someone types in lakers tickets then they would be redirected to the lakers page which would show the "10 games" and have a button at the bottom of the list that says "view inventory" in that scenario I would recommend what I wrote above...

For this scenario, displaying different events on a single page whether by type or date, I'm not sure if your CMS will allow you to specify different ALT tags for individual buttons. In this case I think you can stick with the generic text "View Tickets" or "View Tickets Button"

Basically in a case where there is a problem of displaying the image the user can still figure out where to click and that a button is meant to be there (same goes for the search engine crawlers)

I say you SPAM the hack of out of their domain.. Just kidding of course! Try contacting BBB a lot of times they can resolve issues like these. Another more harsh option is to try to contact them and tell them that if they don't pay you will be forced to leave negative reviews of the way they do business on all major review sites that could possibly lower their rankings, etc...

I do IT consulting and sometimes I encounter these kind of issues with NEW clients, over time I learned to watch out for certain things when taking new clients that could possibly lead to a non payment. If I feel that the client will have issues with payments, I ask for money upfront.

During these hard times some companies can't pay on time which is acceptable as long as their honest about it and tell you, if they start hiding, running, or wasting time then in my case we simply flip the switch on of their servers or systems that we monitor, that usually gets us paid fairly quickly

I think you should definitively start a blog just like your competitor however copying their tactic is not a good idea, as search engine spiders are very intelligent these days and can figure out linkspam. I assume that your competitor has all of his sites and blogs hosted probably under the same hosting account which would provide no value in regards to link value.

Your strategy of " to consolidate that time into 2.5-5hrs a week spent researching and writing a valuable, link-worthy, long-tail-rich post for the main blog and then promoting it in hopes of attracting natural links?"

Is much better and will pay off in the long run.

In my opinion since you already have an exact match domain and making your URL to the template as www.acupunctureintakeform.com/acupuncture-intake-form-template/

is kind of redundant, long, doesn't look that good, and might look like you're trying to manipulate rankings by doing keyword stuffing.

I would recommend something like:

www.acupunctureintakeform.com/template-forms

www.acupunctureintakeform.com/templates

etc..

I think its better to concentrate on the ON PAGE SEO, its far more important to have good content that will lure in visitors and make them link and share you content VS getting a headache from worrying about the URL address. Obviously I'm not talking about completely ignoring it and putting your template under something like /contact us/ section. Just make it easy and straight to the point, I think that is the best way to do it. In my case I tend to over think things which is not a good thing, so lately I go with the first idea that comes to me that looks and sounds simple!

First off, you need to know what the ALT tag is for. The ALT Tag is used to describe an image (a:) for the user in case the image does not load in a browser, instead of displaying just a red X, it will also show your ALT tag which tells the user what the image is about or supposed to be. (b:) for search engine spiders to understand what this image is (since search engine spiders are not really good at  understanding images.

Google wants you to create the best user experience, so in your situation I would use the following ALT Tag:

View / See / Browse all "event name" tickets

or

View / See more "event name" tickets

etc...

If your CMS allows for such function to have a different ALT Tag for the same image on different pages, otherwise you can also create an individual button for each event (however that will probably be a nightmare...)

Create something that will make it a better user experience instead of forcing keywords.

Search engine spiders are pretty smart and will figure out, so having an ALT Tag that is related to the content on the page and does not appear to be stuffed with keywords (meaning looks natural) is the best way to go instead of the generic same old ALT tag for all events.

IT all depends on your DA (domain autority) The higher the autorhity the more links you can have on your page.

Take a look at SEOMoz cheat sheet, on the first page you can see the recommended value of links is 100

It doesn't matter if its a wordpress site or another CMS site, it basically means that there shouldn't be more than 100 links on a webpage...

Search engines consider your title tag one of the main factors when crawling your site. There are a few different meta tags so I'm not sure which one you're referring to, however if you're talking about meta description then this one should be different but targeting the same keywords as you have in your title tag. If you make them identical it will look suspicious to a search engine. Take a look at Google's SEO starter guide:

I would advise you to use a hyphen instead of an equal sign. It looks better when your URL is displayed and in this article from Google's Webmasters http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=76329   "We recommend that you use hyphens (-) instead of underscores (_) in your URLs."

they recommend using a hyphen instead of an underscore, so I can only assume that a hyphen is definetly a better choice than an equal sign

I checked the URL you sent me. You do have duplicate pages:

both work and return the same page..

I also tried clicking on other links on your site, and then just changing a few letters to the upper case something like this

and it returns the same page

From what I can tell its one of the features in Magento that is making this possible. I would go into settings and disable that setting that forces Magento to use lower case.

Then test it make sure that you DO get a 404 page if you change the letter case on any of your links. Once you test it and you do get a 404 page.

I'm not familiar with Magento so not sure if it has that option or not, but many CMS and ecommerce platforms have a field where you can specify the URL for that page, I would change that field to all lower case.

Test it again, if it works there is one more step that you have to do if you want to keep the same juice from the pages that had the uppercase URL.

You need to duplicate your pages, but you need to make sure that the URL address is the same as it was before (in all CAPS) and then do a 301 redirect to the new page which is in lower case.

If you can provide us with a URL we might be able to dig in to see what is going on. Without it its almost impossible to tell. Also it doesn't matter if you have a decent number of inbound links, duplicate content only refers to pages with similar content. I'm not familiar with Magento platform so this is just a guess, when you created (or imported) pages or categories in Magento originally were they lowercased? If not its possible that Magento added them as all in CAPS and Magento might be forcing it to lower case, therefore you might have duplicates, but once again this is just a guess and without a URL to your site I doubt that someone will be able to help you further.
