RE: Am I buying links according to Google?
John, Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
I tend not to fall in these kind of practices, but when an opportunity like this presents itself you have to agree with me that it is tempting... and Google should know that... We are sponsoring a section of the site, and not a multitude of pages so I guess that might help.
On the other hand I couldn't agree with you more! There is something wrong with Google if they penalize a site for 'Advertising' and trying to better your business...

RE: Am I buying links according to Google?
Thank you for the input... and that is my conundrum. We would never purchase links in a manner that Google will raise any flags, I guess at the end of the day is all going to depend on Volume and how many other links are pointing out from the sites that we all go after...

Am I buying links according to Google?
I have the opportunity to sponsor a variety of sections in a variety of .edu sites. Really appealing since they will both provide high quality traffic as well as to help our rankings... (maybe
)... Anyway this opportunity involves a monetary exchange, no different than advertising in Adwords and/or buying a display ad with the NYT. The links will be both text and banner... With follow links. My questions to you guys are: Is this practice penalize? And will display ads pass link juice also? Thanks for the help... -
RE: 406 errors
Same here don't worry about it... Got around 120 of these errors last week, and they are now gone. Kind of frustrating trying to see those errors and warning down to 0!

Missing Title Tags on Include Files?
GWT is telling me 3 of my include files (Contact Form - Header - Footer) are missing a Title Tag. This has never happened to me before and don't know how to tackle it.
On the other hand the warning refers to a subdirectory of my site to these respective include files… The main directory, with literally the same html structure and no Title, returns no errors.
Any ideas as to why this error now? or how to fix it?
Thanks,

RE: One hour backlinks
You should be skeptical and cautious. There is not such a thing as easy backlinks... and can guarantee you that even if they were to accomplish whatever many links they say you can get in one hour... it will end up hurting more than helping.

RE: Is my footer bad? i.e. hurting rankings
I don't see a problem with your Footer - I like it.
I do have, on the other hand a theory, as of why people might not be clicking on it (They don't scroll down enough). But a theory is a theory, so have you tried any Heat Map tool to analyze this - CrazyEgg for example?
On another note... you might consider (This is something I am doing with my own site, or at least I will this week
) to add some no-follow attributes to those links... which ones? The ones that you would in fact consider adding them to (if you think twice about it maybe you should add the attribute to it). Also you might want to think about having a 'Privacy Policy' and/or 'Term of Use' links there... Those are good signals that you are a legitimate website... not to mention Ad Center will not let you (or at least that's what their policies state) advertise with them if these are not present and/or accessible from your Home Page.
Just my thoughts....

RE: Ranking Differs between SEOmoz and Google Webmaster?
Rankings are no longer fixed but more dynamic than you might think. Geo Location - Glocalization is a big part of the equation, Not to mention whether or not you are logged in to your Google Account or Facebook (this refers more to Bing Obviously).
I would always go by Google Webmaster Tools rankings, however it is my experienced that these results are not as fresh as you might want them to be... I use both, and additionally i might also consider looking at sescout.com.

Anchor Text Diversification – Branded VS Non Branded – What is the best approach… if any?
Our organization competes in the Drug & Alcohol Treatment Category… very competitively I must say.
While we create content for long-tail keywords, we focus on linking (blogging + Press Release + Acquisition, etc…) as the main strategy to increase relevancy for 4 major keywords. (Alcohol Rehab, Drug Rehab, Alcohol Treatment, and Drug Treatment)… all these terms have their respective landing pages, and we try to provide a good flow of new links coming to these pages on a weekly basis… Lately we have been acquiring more links than we anticipated… not a bad thing since they are from reputable websites… however I am a bit concern regarding the Anchor Text distribution of these links.
Example
Let’s say I get 100 links to my ‘Alcohol Rehab’ page – what is an appropriate percentage for the anchor text distribution?
For example:
Branded Links 20 - Keyword: St Jude Retreats
Exact Match Links 70 - Keyword: Alcohol Rehab
Broad Links 10 - Keyword: RehabIs this an ok distribution, or should I change things around?
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks!!!!
