Am not sure I would grant access to Franchisee's. It is likely you could get a better outcome by managing yourself. A lack of uniformity in messaging, uploading images without compressing etc. could lead to issues.. I am a bit of a control freak..
The other element to focus on is google my business. That should enhance local foot traffic.

You can see when google has indexed a site but typing in site:

Sometime it takes time, but you can force google to crawl your pages - in webmaster - crawl - fetch as google.

Agree with Marcel, in essence he recommends a deeper dive. I recommend collate links, from majestic, moz, ahrefs and WMT's. Then you have to go through them each manually.
I tend to focus on exact matching anchor text, and non branded anchors. That is where you usually find the culprits. Also when identified disavow from the root.
Focusing on bad links though is not enough.
I would also be tracking any other site changes, did the new seo company change any title tags, h1's etc. Is the page speed still under 2 seconds... you should be able to do deep dive off WMT's as it all seems within 90 days... pin point some dates of drops... look at the words specifically that have dropped. Get granular. WMT's should really help at this stage, so I would do a deep dive there, capture as much data as you can as it is slipping away.

Matts answer is perfect but if you want me all you can do is condense common sense to them in a written form. I will try and give some suggestions. Firstly I would also give them online examples. Specifically I would use best in class pure online operators that your bosses would be familiar with. Competitors and not keeping up with them always rankle good bosses.
Hence showing examples between agreed world class operators and what you are doing would clearly highlight the lack of "best in class" attributes of your company SOP.
As Google states a Google indicator in page ranking is the words in the URL. Hence if you bosses are capable enough and type car insurance into www.google.com.au - nearly all websites will display a website like the below.
<cite class="_Rm">www.comparethemarket.com.au/car-insurance/</cite>Hence even your bosses with only a few key strokes should be able to see what is best practice. Ask them to show you a world class online operator that states www.comparethemarket.com.au/123456 for the keyword car insurance.So in summary I would show them what is happening in a the real world - simply ask them to type in a query to bring up a good online operator. Best still show them what your competitors are up to.Good luck with them.
Egol is spot on. Assuming the SERP is highly competitive. You need to do a few things simultaneously. I will mention 3.
Firstly I would not initially target the highly competitive SERP Long term goal, but it could be several months till you are there. You need to take a beach head first - or own one SERP and build from there. Build your organic traffic. Own a less searched but highly relevant keyword query SERP. Your keyword research should assist and identify opportunities. So I would find weak SERP's which is related and then build pages & content to own those SERP's.
Concurrently you need to build backlinks. So I would do an audit on your competitors and see what you can also harvest. Then I would capture the top 100 URL's for the keyword you are chasing and try and see if you can get natural backlinks on those sites.
Thirdly you have to do some good old fashioned marketing. PR & marketing are integral to online success now.

Hi, Backing Joe in, it can sometimes be more complex as can negatively spam yourself, with too much branding.
I assume you are looking for something different. Though on basics as a general rule use the pipe instead of the hyphen. It tends to have a higher CTR and uses less pixels. A win/win.
On out of the box - it is limited emojis were able to be used in part for a while, but google eliminates them or they get read improperly on different browsers. So stay clear.

I think it may assist you in formatting a good methodology for the content creation. You have a heading of link building strategy and then talk about content creating - though related there are many ways to obtain links without content.
On what you say about content, I am not clear on the "re-written" part. Once you have created unique content - it cant be re-used or re-written. That sounds like you are heading for the penalty box. Perhaps watch the WBF and then clarify?

Sharing links on social media is becoming more important to ranking as time progresses. So my view is the better you get at social now the more influence it will have on rankings now and down the track. EGOL has nailed its importance but I think social will only get more powerful on search/ranking influence.
Google is looking at ways to amplify social as it maybe the most pure (incorruptible) measurement tool for rankings. Earlier this year google & twitter announced they were re-connecting and google would have full access to the "firehose" or all tweets. Though yet we have not seen any significant changes in causation between ranking and tweets google will be working on something given the open funnel they now have into twitter.
Positive social shares validate a website and inform google your website is relevant, current and being talked about.

So I recommend think less about the technical side of nofollow links and more about the positive aspects of social media ie driving traffic to your website, creating links by sharing and then owning the space as the of power social to SEO is amped up.
Ideally you lead in big and get narrower - so your suggestion www.salshoes.com/shoes/mens/day-wear would be varied as follows:-

Also it makes sense when you read, plus it is consistent with what a searcher may type into google. That said "day-wear" is a atypical keyword to target for shoes, so perhaps casual or formal may be preferable. The more precise you can be the more optimum for SEO ie . www.salshoes.com/mens/shoes/canvas-shoes

Also is your customer based solely in Australia? If your customer is only Australia based it maybe worth considering a change. Need more data. ie is Australia, the State or town in the Title visible on each search?
Also for the sites ranking above you - need more competitive analysis, than .au as the possible cause. Worthy discussion.

I am not sure I am of much assistance. The question reeks of long term trouble in my view. The short terms easy kicks you are looking for - may have surpassed you. You could head down the path suggested but what works for one site - will not necessarily work the next. It really does have penguin penalty written all over it. Getting relevant high quality links is simply hard work nowadays. Constant Contact has a high DA - but is it relevant to your sites?
I would imagine if you head down your suggested path for 3 out of 4 sites you will get lucky and then the 4th would go into terminal decline, with a penalty the site may never recover from.

I will be blunt. It is a very bland site. It looks like hard work, as soon as see the Home page.I would struggle to make another click.
There is no CTA. So if online sales are the business a big FREE SHIPPING banner etc. some CTA is needed. If you read the below, you would keep looking for products.. somewhere else. (this is the info you have under your product)

I suggest google, learn from the best. The certification brings you into a loop, which is great to keep you continually updated. Main thing is to be able to apply it practically on a live account at the same time.
Neither. Duplicate content is not a punishment. It is a relevance issue. Google simply thinks the duplicate site is a clone of many sites and there irrelevant. Some sites with greater authority it does work for - but google will only pick one site to display. Hence the other site considers it a punishment as they have the same content - but not displayed.
Think of it in fashion, people do not usually line of for mass market product, they line up for the limited edition. Google does not want to show mass market, the same thing over and over again - it wants to show unique relevant content.
Thomas is correct. To be clear are you only concerned about Mobile traffic? If yes, then it maybe beneficial to reduce your MD's to 120 characters. That said we test MD impacts on CTR each day and we do not see great differences if at all in CTR unless you put your CTA toward the end of the MD. The truncation in MD's has nominal effect generally.
The first 4 words of the MD have the highest impact on CTR. Recommend you try and ensure the keywords are therein, as they get boldened.
Also the mobile Title also displays differently (than desktop) which we have found can make a big difference in CTR if used properly. So also consider extracting increased value from your Title. Suggest use the entire 512 pixels. This is as the final two words of the title often drop down to centre of the page which has significant impact. On a desktop their value is nominal on CTR.

I concur with Logan - it is a risky business.
There is lots to review, so I am only making one suggestion which is contemporary to what i am seeing now. I would look more at how they are driving traffic. Is it referral traffic from facebook, etc. Several of my clients have had big jumps in the last month if they have strong referral traffic from high domain locations. I have seen no data on it, just a personal observation at this stage...
