The best way to get links is to develop meaningful content that others will share. But of course that's not the easiest or quickest way. I think you need to change your long-term strategy.

Remember, content is king. Develop content that deserves to be shared.

Kynduvme is right - I did this just a few weeks ago for a client (two pages for one client):

1. Set up a personal google account if they dont have one
2. Set up a very basic G+ page in their name
3. Set up business page(s) from this G+ account

The way you are currently doing it bristolweb is only going to cause headaches in the future. Ultimately they should be in control of their page from their only central Google account.

Thanks for the responses. Just a quick follow up question - would you make the links to these social media pages/accounts no follow as to not leak any link juice from your page?

Or by making them followed, your social media accounts (particularly a page like Pinterest where some of the links are followed) gain a higher page authority and are thus more useful from a SEO point of view.

Or is this just a really dumb question?

I'm not exactly sure if a Google + page does gain authority with age, but is there any harm in starting the page now and getting a 2-3 month jump on building relationships/networks with others?

If you are thinking about doing it, why not just do it now? Plus - there's some great resources out there, particularly in the SEO industry. I've learnt a wealth of information in the 1-2 months I've been on Google +. Just my 2 cents.

This is fine and a common practice across a large number of ecommerce sites.

If that is your unique value proposition compared to your competitors, by all means use it across all relevant product pages/categories/buying guides/homepage etc.

I would recommend Mozbar, I use it quite often. Otherwise any of the top rating SEO extensions from the Chrome store.

Agree with both Andrew and Alan. Add a few lines of text such as "Welcome to Motorcyle Center. We stock America's finest motorcycle gear, motorcyle parts, biker jackets, motocross helmets and more. We're experienced motorcyle enthusiasts with over xyz years in the industry..." etc etc. Just a basic introduction to your site, what you're about and why people should shop there. The why shop with us banner is just an image, so perhaps incorporate some of that in to your SEO text. "One stop motorcycle shop - largest selection of motorcyle gear, no risk shopping on your favorite motorcycle parts" etc etc.

Also, you're page title is way too long. Try to rank for 2-3 key terms on your homepage first, then go after your secondary terms next.

Your top level categories should have better URLs. "Shop-for-men" doesn't describe anything about "Mens Motorcycle Apparel"

If I were you, I'd have a look at aboutus.org and read a bit more on this page - http://www.aboutus.org/DoFollow. Quality links from a quality domain.

OK, well as I mentioned earlier, I'd just have a clearer indication of what terms you want to rank for on each page. Concentrate on 2-3 terms for each page first, then move on to the secondary terms.

I'd ultimately change the URL of that inner page to http://www.line.com/sports-monitor and do a 301. Clean it up a bit, don't bold too many random terms that you are not trying to rank for, add page title + meta tags, and link to it (and other pages) internally from other pages and the new footer I suggested.

If you would prefer ranking for that term on that inner page, I'd suggest you first revisit your homepage ranking strategy. "Sports Monitor" is the very first word in your title tag - do you want to rank for that term for your homepage or for http://www.line.com/sports-handicapper-rankings?

I think the overall design is pretty good. My advice would be:

1. Your homepage title tag seems too long
2. You seem to be spreading your targeted terms on the homepage too thin. Based on title tags and bolded text, you seem to be targeting: Sports Monitor, Sports Betting Forum, Handicapper Websites, Sports Handicapping Monitor, sports betting social network, sports betting forums, sell sports picks, sports handicapping scams etc. I'd try to just focus on 2-3, start ranking well for those then go after some secondary terms
3. Your choice of anchor text for links to inner pages seems a little odd. E.g. for http://www.line.com/sports-handicapper-rankings I assume you'd want to rank for something like "Sports Monitor". Thus, you should link to that page with the term "Sports Monitor" on the homepage, not "Accurate Sports Handicapping Monitor". The link to the http://www.line.com/sports-handicapper-websites is worse - it's using anchor text "Web Design Skills" which is not what you want to be ranking for on that page.
4. Some of the inner pages don't seem to be finished (title tags, meta tags etc) - e.g. http://www.line.com/sports-handicapper-rankings. Also, for that page are you trying to rank for "Sports Monitor" or "Sports Handicapper Rankings"? (or both?) I'd double check the URLs you are using.

Edit: I'd also add a better footer with basic internal linking structure. Even something like what SEOmoz has on this page is better than what you have with just the copyright info.

I'd second Vahe's response re Magento.

Also I have used Volusion - it's not too bad if you know what you are doing. I'd prefer Magento though.

Good start but I would add the following:

1. Start following people/pages in your niche with high authority. Slowly start joining in the conversations, sharing information and encourage others to engage with you
2. Encourage friends and colleagues to start using Google +. Hopefully they'll join, engage with others, and start following you.
3. Link to your Google + page (and any other social media accounts you have) from your Twitter/Facebook/SEOmoz user profile/Rapportive etc accounts - anywhere you can possible connect with others

Depends what sort of tasks. We've employed people from elance for basic semi-spammy basic link building techniques as well as some mid-level site analysis type requests and had mixed results. The key (of course) is their feedback. Stay with the major players and you can't go too far wrong.

I work for a company that closely mirrors the dropdowns employed by a very large ecommerce site - http://www.surlatable.com/.

Upon analysis of this URL, there are well over 100 links on that page because of the way their dropdowns are designed (over 400 in fact). However, upon close analysis, only 52 of these internal links are followed, and 370 internal links are not followed.

Based on this, I would recommend if you have well in excess of 150 or so links, use nofollow for those less important sub categories like this site has. (I'll have to change the structure of our site now...)

We are in the process of adding a Google Plus button to our site (to the header, sitewide) - at http://www.jewelleryoutlet.com.au/

My question is, should the button have behavioural characteristics that apply to the whole site, or only for that page that it is clicked on. Consider these scenarios:

1. A customer clicks on the G+ button from the homepage - they then 'like' that page (our homepage, i.e. our site)
2. A customer clicks on the G+ button from a category page - e.g. http://www.jewelleryoutlet.com.au/cheap-necklaces-s/1818.htm. Because the button is in the header and sitewide, should the customer be 'liking' http://www.jewelleryoutlet.com.au/ or http://www.jewelleryoutlet.com.au/cheap-necklaces-s/1818.htm?
3. We are also adding a Google + button to the item template, e.g. on http://www.jewelleryoutlet.com.au/product-p/jn1003.htmsomewhere above the Add to Cart button. When they press the button in this instance, they are 'liking' only that page (which is how I would want the functionality to work).

So my question is to do with point 2 above. Much like a Facebook 'like/fan count' type button that exists in the header of many sites, should the G+ button function the same way? E.g. if we have a count of 10 in the header on the homepage, then there is also a count of 10 sitewide? Or should this reset for every subsequent page that a customer lands on, and by pressing the G+ button on that page, they are 'liking' only that page.

Which is better for SEO? Several different +1's to different pages (e.g. from the necklaces, bracelets and earrings category pages for a more natural structure) or several +1's all pointing to the homepage?

Any help or suggestions regarding G+ button or the service in general would be much appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure of the latest follow vs nofollow ratio guidelines, but running your homepage URL through OSE suggests that maybe too many of your top links are nofollow (18 out of your top 50) - most seem to be fairly spammy blog type comments. Perhaps try and target less spammy links?
