Simple question: How many words optimal for blog posts
Does the same thing apply to regular articles? Yes. Word count should be based on one primary question, how many words would it take to properly discuss the topic. If the topic is "What is the definition of...." then the word count can be quite small such as 100 words. If the topic is "Cardiomyopathy Risk Assessment" or any technical topic the word count can easily exceed 1000. The judgement you exercise is when to pull back or expand upon various tangent topics. For a dictionary page, you could include a lot more then the definition such as synonyms, antonyms, thesaurus matches, origin of the word, examples in sentences, etc. For the Cardiomyopathy topic, you can greatly reduce the word count by offering additional pages on various tangent topics. One page can focus causes, another cures, another definition, etc.

How good is a backlink that's in the footer
Frankly, sitewide links offer very little value these days to your overall link-profile. The engines simply don't like them as in a lot of cases they scream manipulation. You might also be interested to know that according to the folks who contributed to the SEOMoz Ranking Factors, the vast majority said that sitewide links would devalue your overall metrics with varying degrees of severity. Honestly, I'd try to negotiate a better placement and switch tact. Best, Anthony

Please critique my link building plan
Yes, I forgot to include keyword research. It's such a normal part of what I do that I forgot to include it in the list. Thanks for reminding me Salman

Local SEO - our company is in 2 very different locations
Ryan, Great progress on this. Thanks. Will taking "California" out of the title tag change the local traffic at all? Some of our strongest terms we're ranking for on the home page include the word "California". You already said it should be fine, but could you tell me a little more about how it works so that I can be more knowledgable here. Just so that you know, we have sitelinks for "NLP California". I attached a photo. sitelinks.jpg

When to stop link building because page authority is low - open site explorer
Lots of people come to these forums looking for numbers and formulas. If the link is going to be on what looks like a quality site then it doesn't matter what the page authority is... .... and if the site has a high page authority but it looks like a crappy manipulative site then why would you want a link on it?

Link Building Strategy - Please Give Feedback
Hi to be honest you seem to be relying on just competitive research. What about some of the following - Making great research content for your niche. Looking for bloggers in your niche, to syndicate content. Using Article syndication. Looking for health based social bookmarking websites. Facebook is good but really it has limited SEO value just social traffic value.

I don't know, but making it more keyword focussed can't do any harm either way.

My first infographic, how to make it exceptional
I agree with Anthony. This is a great topic. I went to nlpca.com and it wasn't until 2/3 of the way down the page that I actually read what NLP stands for. Granted, your target demographic may not be as naive, but a great infographic right off the bat would be a great opportunity to make it clear for people like me. I don't have any advice for making it spectacular, but you are on a great path. Let us know when you finish because I would love to see it.

Blog for SEO: embedded in the site or separate
I agree that it's better to add it to your own site. What if people like your blog and link to it, but it's not on your site? You've lost some link juice there. You can submit it to blog directories too - more direct links to your site. For ecommerce sites there's a lot of content duplication with other sites when the same products are sold, so like you say in your last sentence, a blog adds regular unique content.

Please take a look at the SEO of my site
Sure I think this page on title tags sums it up pretty well. Note the suggested format: primary keyword - secondary keyword | brand So the suggestion "Life Coach - Boise, ID | Bob Weikel & Associates" fits this model. Keyword 1->Life Coach Keyword 2->Boise, ID Brand->Bob Weikel & Associates This format keeps it under the recommended 70 characters, fits in the two primary keywords and brand, keeps it user friendly in the SERPs and displays concise relevancy to the contents of the page. The thing is, if you have a page that's well written and valuable to the user for each topic/service you provide, its easy to create title tags that fits this model eloquently. This doesn't mean you can't target more than one keyphrase to a page - there can be other ones in the body of the content of course - synonyms and variations etc. But pick one version that works best in the title -Dan
