  • Yup. And the title of that page is that it's unusual activity from your network, and Moz isn't your network, so that one is easy to eliminate.  It's likely some other trigger as I and others mention.

  • I would go with none of the above. Your second option has "en" on the Spanish line by the way. I would use this structure (and hreflang): Also, once you're done test your code on Flang.  And don't forget to do your inner pages as well.

  • Well, it looks like they went dark. No response to email or calls. I even developed a child theme for them. Ah well, now to contact their competitors. I'm not doing that out of spite, rather I found an interesting situation. I would very much like to see how something like that changes things. A few CSS tweaks, a banner redesign, and I can have my case again. Fortunately there aren't any contractual obligations involved with the first instance.

  • You will want to do the 301 redirect. That is the best way to address a domain name change. You would use a canonical tag if you were keeping both sites live, which isn't best practice. The canonical tag is not necessary when you use the 301 redirect. You will use the canonical tag to set the correct version of your URL, for example, if your set version is abcde.com and not www.abcde.com you will add a canonical tag to the page for abcde.com.

  • I have likewise noticed this on several sites - that do very well in Google. Some sites were near or at the top of Yahoo page one have fallen suddenly &  drastically! Specifically, two smaller (what I call) "magnet sites" or "satellite sites", tuned to narrow band topics, and linked to the main site which also contained those topics. They were both number one, page one - and beat the main, large site on their topic. The net result is the two magnet sites fell back but Yahoo made the "mother-ship" number one in both categories. They "givith and taketh away". I too noticed a large increase in ad-space real estate. Since there's so much less room for organic results, they are obviously quashing multiple SERPS from the same outfits. I have noticed a similar result in Google years back - a satellite site will virtually disappear, but the main site goes to number one.

  • It shouldn't matter at all. If you're worried the sites are low quality, you might consider no following, but press link pages are pretty common.

  • Is it possible for you to give a clearer description of the categories? You say they are different products but that one is a second category of the other Does the page you want to rank show up for any other searches? In your analytics are you getting any traffic from Google to that page?

  • Usually the redirects Roberthseo describes are 302. For instance, I am redirected with the 302 to http://blackpen.tv/language/en/, because I am in Spain when accessing to blackpen.tv. That means that if somebody from Paris is linking to blackpen.tv and not to the paris.blackpen.tv subdomain, no link equity is passed because of the 302, even though it is also true that Google (aka: Matt Cutts) told once that in some special occasions (i.e.: when it is clear that a 302 stands for a 301), we can 302 treated as 301 (but, sincerely I don't think this is the case). So, the best is always to have backlinks pointing to the exact location.

  • That would be my concern, if they control the DNS, that would scare me as well. I still think your best bet would be playing by their rules while spending your time building up a new website. I would also recommend getting legal advice. I remember long ago I came across Nissan's website which now is functional, but for a while it was just a landing page that stated neither Nissan Computers nor Nissan Motors was allowed to use the website. If you did a 301 redirect, and this company went hard enough and ended up demanding you to pull the domain, I would hate to see you loose all the 301 potential anyway, simply because they pulled the rug out from under you. Good luck!!! If I were them I would try and just buy you out!

  • If you were using florida-car-insurance and then changed it to car-insurance, you should 301 redirect florida-car-insurance to car-insurance to ensure that any page equity that you may have built for the original page is preserved.
