Switching site from non-www to www
In that case, you really don't need the 301 redirects. The canonical tags should have updated correctly when you made the change in your platform.

Multilingual Site and 301 redirection
Hi Angelos. You have a great question and there are a few ways to take this. What I would recommend is having your www.example.com be a starter page that doesn't have your "homepage" content, but rather, asks people to pick a language. You can detect it from their browser settings or from the IP (whatever you do, do NOT redirect anything based on IP address) and prompt them from there, or just list them all. That page would be your x-default in HREFLANG terms. It's the page that doesn't have a language. Then all of the others would be linked to from there. This would of course have English as /en. You don't have to do that though. If you prefer, you can totally have www.example.com as all English, and just have the other languages under their subfolders. I would detect if you think the user prefers one of the other languages and use Javascript to popup a prompt to ask if they would prefer that language. If they say yes, then set a cookie and take them there. If not, it keeps them on the English URLs. Just please don't redirect anyone based on IP address. This can cause problems down the line. I hope that helps.

Having 2 domains with same name - Impact on SEO
Thanks for reply Matt. Agreed these are some links which surely could be out of frustration. Can get them removed. But I have a question, check out our competitors who rank in India. You will be amazed to see their link building. Even one has a sub domain pligg sub domain for all kind of bad links even sex related etc. However, how can you help us to achieve our goal. You can send a PM too... I will be very glad.

Restricting SE bots.
Hi Daren. It's hard to say without going into the details specific to the site, but in general it shouldn't hurt it. There probably aren't a lot of inbound links to the helpdesk and that area probably doesn't serve as a main landing page from the search engines either. If you NOINDEX / FOLLOW that section you'll be able to keep those pages out of the SE and still allow the on page links to be measured. Be sure to check Analytics to verify what kind of traffic you're getting from organic visitors and run the site through OSE and GWT to see if for some reason the helpdesk is getting a high number of links. In the rare case it is, it'd probably be better to redirect those portions to a public facing FAQ, or a few other pages topically dedicated to the content that you're deciding to remove from the search engines. Cheers!

NEW WEBSITE WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RECOVERY THE AUTHORITY OF OLD DOMAIN NAME?
Hi Tamir. A) I think you'll still want to redirect the new site back to the old domain because it's been created and is a better user experience for people who started going to it to get pointed back to the correct site. Redirecting it will also eliminate duplicate content issues. You can probably use one line of redirection if the traffic and links are very low so that people just go to the new site's home page since the new site hasn't been interacted with that much, but in addition to links you should look at the Analytics to know if that's the case. If the new site is getting thousands of visitors it'd be a better user experience for the page about X to redirect to the old domain about X. B) You have to have an exact match for a page to work, i.e. you have to have the .html at the end if you want to completely mimic the old site. Otherwise, yes, you'll need to redirect from http://www.old-domain.com/our-destinations.html to http://www.old-domain.com/our-destinations D) Adding the blog folder is fine, and helpful in a lot of cases (when you just want to analyze the blog separate from the website, for example). Cheers!

Webmaster Tools Impressions - Site Redesign
I'm with Ryan - old data. I'm theorizing here, but think it has to do with the way Google reports queries. They say they report the top 2000 queries that resulted in pages from your site being displayed in results over the reporting time period which is, by default, 30 days. They're reporting the top 2000 query-page-result combinations. Since the redesign, you've had both old and new pages displaying in results so the number of query-page-result combinations could have as much as doubled, depending on how many of the new pages are indexed. It could take a while before you see impressions start to rise again but I think it's a reporting problem and not a visibility one. My two cents.

Really slow to load results on Open Explorer and "error fetching your data" messages
I'm having the same problems. I saw that Dave_B posted in March. Now it's September. I've tried to ask about the error message in the chat function but the responses are so slow, it's hardly worth waiting. My question was 53 minutes ago and is still flagged as 'unread'.

What is the proper way to write a title for local SEO?
My vote is for neither of the above but a different combo. Boston Pet Store - Company Name I think the 1st part is how many would search. I don't think many search for KW in city st. For organic national SEO I would not normally take up space to add name, but in local Google seems to like company in title for local search.

Single Page for video & text resources or multiple?
Typically for a learning center evironemnt a combination of the two can be really helpful, i.e. the video combined with the article. Here at Moz they use a transcription of their Whiteboard Fridays in order to generate searchable text in relation to the content of the video. This does two things: You get a page with more content than just the video. The text of the video becomes searchable not just for Google, but on site users. To get to other videos you can link to related ones with thumbnails within relevant articles, you can organize them into a playlists, really lots of options here... There are several learning centers / training video sites out there where you can get ideas of what will work best for you. Cheers!
