  • Sounds good! That's what I was hoping for. I was warned early on as the Disavow is a very very powerful tool and to use it as a final step, so I have been trying to be very strategic with my usage etc. Thanks!

  • It's a pretty old page, so take it with a grain of salt. Mostly what they're getting at I think is their preference for facts over sales copy when it comes to granular data. Still, things like page counts plus author and illustrator information within the H1 and Titles could help diversify your hundreds of thousands of pages.

  • Thank you for your answer Ryan. I read the article which is very helpful for correcting information that one has access to. However, I can't change the IMBA information and technically that info is correct, it is just not relevant to who Garrison Wynn has been for the past decade. It is as if they showed Ronald Reagan as an Actor from the same source instead of president. ( Maybe that is a bit extreme of an example.) But not to Garrison. So am I correct in saying that Google has NO particular source they will use first such as a Google BUSINESS (not personal) page? For the Brian Carter example Google did use his Wikapedia entry which makes sense; however, no where on his Wikipedia page does it say he is a football player. I dont believe Brian was ever a football player ( Sorry Brian if I'm missing something huge from your past) I'd like to see if anyone else has experience with the same issue and how if at all they were able to correct it? Thanks again for your help!

  • Definitely agree with the others, they have some great suggestions. Another idea could build upon what was already said. Have you considered hosting more creative forms of content on your blog or website like infographics (could be a great way to display survey results or scientific data) or videos? The infographic / more visual content would be a good way to lighten up serious data and statistics and the videos have the potential to be funny and lighthearted, which lends itself to sharing. Also, have you addressed FAQs before? Whether they are about your site in particular or about online dating? Addressing these questions and "myths" in a creative way might get some attention. Get creating and be sure to execute things properly and I think these could be great link-earning content pieces.

  • I would suggest doing some keyword research from the Keyword Tool in AdWords to find exact match terms that align with your product, then using the +broad +modified match type to gather volume around it. Run it on CPC with significantly lower bids on broad and higher bids on exact. I don't understand this portion though: you are a reseller of this product and other people have it as well OR you are a reseller of this product that is coming out but no one has it yet? Either way, does anyone know about the product's release? is this a hard sell? You might need to do some content network retargeting from your current traffic sources to show people who already know that you're a good company that you will have this product release. If you have very little traffic and are trying to get up and running then you might want to consider content network (aka Display advertising) to drum up some awareness. Brand building can be done with search advertising as well, keep your queries focused around your product but don't grab the short tail high volume keywords or they will eat your budget.

  • Pull the site stop searches via semrush.com. With that report then take everything out except for the landing pages and traffic % columns. Now consolidate all the duplicate pages and sum the traffic % using the excel consolidation feature. You'll be left with the top landing pages sorted by estimated search traffic %. It's not perfect but it's not a bad estimate either... especially if they have a lot of data available via SEMRush.

  • Hi Jamie, Thanks for the link. We're not on an ecommerce platform. Our product descriptions are written by our own team and we've made a lot of effort to make them unique, since even a small change in our products makes a big difference in the use case. The on-page content is less of an issue for us, I'm more worried about splitting our search influence by trying to target the same keywords across 5-6 pages. It helps to read that product descriptions are key though! Thanks again for your help.

  • Hey Chris, one of the bigger two factors on page load speed are the number of http requests (meaning various files that have to be loaded, but each new domain slows things down even further). Essentially, every time they see a new subdomain or domain the browser has to go lookup DNS information for that URL. Because of that, prefetching DNS info for those 3rd party sites is valuable since it tells the browser "here is the full list of domains you need to get info on" right upfront. As Ryan mentioned, it's just one more thing that can get checked off the list. I think the value of implementing this is going to be strongest for high-traffic publishers which have tons of 3rd party data collection on their site from ad networks and other providers.

  • They send tons of links from other domains that have been hacked to the waldorf domain. If you check open site explorer you see that there are 100nds of links to a page type /style.asp  - all with anchor text replica watches, probably the previous target. I guess they did the same thing for the soccer site - but that these links do not yet show up in open site explorer. Seem to be the only plausible explanation why this site would rank for another sites brandname. Apparently Google' algorithm is unable to catch these quite obvious tricks (cloaking, spammy links, duplicate content,...). rgds, Dirk

  • I agree with the sentiment here, Moosa, but know that PA and DA do take link quality into account, and they won't necessarily go up when you get new links. There's actually a huge number of factors that goes into calculating those metrics. (Check out our overview of Page Authority here, and of Domain Authority here.) For example, both metrics consider MozTrust, which measures the inherent "trust value" of linking sites. So to use a pretty simple scenario, if you gain a few links from less-trusted (but not necessarily bad) sites, and lose one link from a very high-trust site, you may actually see PA and DA decrease. It's not unheard of for a high-trust site to go offline and drop the DA and PA of any sites it had linked to, as well as sites those sites link to. That's one of the reasons that we generally recommend using DA and PA to benchmark yourself against your competitors rather than as an absolute measure of your "rankability." Make sense? Just wanted to set the record straight.

If you want to invest some additional time and funds in learning SEO, I can't recommend Distilled U highly enough: http://distilled.net/u. From there, there are a lot of different tools you can use that will help you figure out what you need to do to optimize your site. QuickSprout and Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress, as mentioned below, are good tools - I also recommend HubSpot, Moz Pro, and Majestic. Good luck!

  • Are these doorway pages? Doorway pages are a cluster of very similar, low-effort required pages that are produced for no reason other than to generate search traffic. I don't think that you are going to get a rock solid answer.  In my opinion, you will only get opinions unless Google is giving an official answer. In my opinion, what you describe are ARE doorway pages.  They are a little better than "cookie cutter pages" that simply swap the name, address, phone, etc. in and out between pages,  Google has been killing cookie cutter pages for at least ten years, though some have survived for at least that long. The pages that you describe have a higher chance of survival but if anyone was going to produce a massive number of these pages they would start taking conscious or unconscious short-cuts that would probably make them moderately vulnerable to an algorithmic penalty. If you want to do a good job on these pages.  Get the manager at each location to take a photo of the building, take a photo of the staff, write text about the physical location with a google map, write a little about the staff including their names, describe some of the jobs done in that area, include photos of their work if possible.  Hold their annual bonus until they hand in this work.  Hold next year's and each subsequent year's until they have a fresh update.
