  • I didn't check all the references of Patrick - but yes, the way you build your url (folders or "flat") will have no impact on how you are positioned in the SERP's (if they contain the same keywords)- so both of the options you mentioned in your original question are equal if you only see it from SEO perspective. rgds Dirk

  • Not 100% clear on the question. But I think what you are asking is "Does Google recognizes footnotes, etc?. which is where superscript is often used.  The short answer is yes, as I do not believe the size of words would have any factor for google in search. Referencing could only be a positive if only from a semantic perspective. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you. I heard from Moz support a while ago that it isn't just me; they have multiple accounts with this issue. Now that I know that, I'll just wait for a fix. Thanks!

  • How much value would these links actually give if they were followed? Just curious as they would be in the footer and would also lack relevancy as presumably websites would be getting designed for many many different companies in different industries.

  • Umar has a great list. I still use Microsoft Movie Maker. It doesn't have many tools/effects some of the competitors have, but easy to use. For filming we use a Canon Rebel SLR camera and we get decent results. Here some tips. We also use Fiverr to create some custom intro's.

  • Hello Dirk & Mike Many thanks for you advice and feedback. Alot of my categories and landing pages are all within 2 clicks from home so that's a relief that google isn't counting the number of / in the url. Most of my users don't come through home page as my brand is not well known etc  , I rank for my category landing pages so these are pages I really need to push hence my thoughts on reducing the number of categories on home page to only popular categories as a few of them we have never made any sales from so to push more link juice to the ones we do should help those rankings there otherwise I'm wasting potential link juice to products etc we never sell.. Many thanks for taking the time to explain. Pete

  • Hi, Far from being an htacess expert, but you could also try this rule: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /+[^.]+$ RewriteRule ^(.+[^/])$ %{REQUEST_URI}/ [R=301,L] (off course I didn't invent it myself - it's coming from here: https://github.com/phanan/htaccess#force-trailing-slash ) I tried it here http://htaccess.madewithlove.be/ - and it seems to work if url is in the form mydomain.com/article => mydomain.com/article/ If you check with mydomain.com/article.htm - it's not redirected Could be an alternative if the rule proposed by Andy wouldn't work. • Hi Christina, We tend to agree with the others - you get what you pay for. Another important consideration is what you are including in your reports and what metrics are important to you. We have always felt that including analytics data into reporting is crucial for setting benchmarks and being able to see the historical data for trends and analysis in one place is also very useful. Many of the free sites can be an ok solution for identifying optimization ideas and opportunities for improvement but lack substance in benchmarking and comparison tracking with M/M or Y/Y true data. We like to use Moz, SEM Rush, and Screaming Frog for some of our day to day work and use a combination of Conductor and Adobe SiteCatalyst (Omniture) for reporting. Hope this helps!

  • I'm inclined to agree that YouTube is the easiest, quickest way to get your videos indexed. Google is showing fewer video snippets overall than they used to, so that is likely contributing to your not seeing video snippets as well. Spending some time optimizing your YouTube descriptions so that they're unique and descriptive, plus including links back to your site in the description, your profile, and the video content itself would definitely be worth doing. If you don't want to lose the potential links & shares that having a great video on your site can attract, think of ways to enhance the page the video embed lives on - what other ways beyond the video could you make that page a great resource?

  • Or 301 redirect these pages to home page? This is something of a no-no. Google states that a 301 should be used to redirect one page to another that is similar. If you can't find a good match, you are better leaving it as a 404. I heard there's a Wordpress plugin that 301 redirects all the 404 errors successfully preserving all the potential link juice. As above, if you have a plugin do this for you then you could find that old URL's are redirected 'en-masse' to the same place, which will do you no favours. -Andy
