  • Hey Mark, If it were me- I'd follow Dmitrii's suggestion and fetch as Google after you post it. So long as you aren't doing 500+ more of these a month, I don't see an issue with that. As far as backlinks go, there are some sites (like meetup.com) where you can sponsor posts to get backlinks. Not sure if that would help your case or not-- you could always have your agency host a networking event and start building authority that way. That being said, what is the goal here? Backlinks or getting credit for the content? Because once you post it and index it's yours.

  • First of all thank you both for taking the time to answer my question. @Russ I also was hesitating whether I could display the text first and then collapse it with some JS but I also read somewhere that Google is or will be analyzing JS in the future and of course this could lead to a penalty if not now than somewhere in the future. So I think I will follow your advice to stick with your first suggestion. As to your first suggestion: In this case the user has to click more so this is a slight limitation when it comes to usability but I guess to some extend I have to accept a compromise. Do you think it is a problem if content (in that case headline and teaser) is repeated on the same page? @ Dimitrii Well what Matt is saying is that they won't count it as some spam and penalize the website. But he does not say anything about how the click to expand content is weighted. The solution with the different pages will not work in my case as I need all descriptions on one page for SEO and it is also a slight limitation to usability as the user has to keep on switching between the pages.

  • I didn't think so, but wanted to double check. Regarding redirects, will I have to change old 301 redirects in our .htaccess file that are setup for individual pages from http to https? Or will the site wide redirect take care of this? Thanks!

  • Thanks. IP base redirection is many times inaccurate. The IP address is perfect, especially in regions like Europe. IN addition to that, immediate IP based redirection does not allow Google to crawl other country content as Google bot only crawls with a US IP address. As for hreflang, given your answers, it's not of use to you because either you are targeting countries without multiple languages or don't have the means to translate everything. OR your business is best for geo-targeting only (different product offerings, etc) and are not focusing on countries with more than one official language. hreflang is only intended for use between pages of the exact same content that have been translated. If your products change or there is something else different and that depends on the country, geo-targeting is needed. Since that content changes and there are not multiple languages needed for each country, you do not need hreflang. Based on your business, or your answers in that tool, you should either launch ccTLDs or use the main domain and use country based subfolders. domain.com/es (Spain) domain.com/mx (Mexico) A ccTLD (.com.mx) is a strong signal for targeting to that country, but it is a brand new domain, and totally separate from other domains. This means you have to work harder to build up both domains, but given the right amount of work and dedication, these will be a stronger signal of targeting that country. That's why top companies pick those. However, if you want to utilize the strength of your current gTLD (which I assume is generic ie .com, .net - not country focused), a folder structure that is based on country will allow you to use the strength of the main domain. You will need to ensure each subfolder is claimed in Google and Bing Webmaster Tools and geo-targeted. The ccTLDs do this automatically but subfolders have to be set up manually if they are targeting a country. I hope this helps!

  • There have been many people this week reporting huge drops and fluctuations in their websites' DA and PA. This has been put down to the recent updates with Mozscape and how it is calculated. Rand explains it quite well in this post: https://moz.com/community/q/da-pa-fluctuations-how-to-interpret-apply-understand-these-ml-based-scores Any drops in DA and PA don't necessarily mean that your website and/or link profile has decreased in quality. Which is why it's always recommended to compare your DA/PA metrics against your competitors rather than against your own website's historical metrics to get a more accurate view of how DA and PA updates are affecting you.

  • Hi Kristina, Thank you very much for taking the time to review our site. These 15000 pages were basically Layered Navigation pages. We did not feel that they were useful for Google, so we used to block them through robots.txt. However the Google bots got them somehow into their index.  So then we added canonical tags on our pages and removed the block from robots.txt (In June 2015).  Finally Google bots removed those pages from the index due to the canonical tags. We have around 2000 "real" pages on our website. Therefore right now it seems to us that Google's Index is showing the right number of pages. This has been the case since Sept 2015, but our rankings have stayed low.

  • Hello Lawrence, I think this is a question best asked of the Cloudflare support team, but don't be surprised if they blame it on your host. Here are some folks having similar issues. Let us know if you find something out that could help others in your situation in the future. Good luck!

  • Thanks Russ Good answer. Yes, I do update quite frequently on some of my sites. Cloudfare does have a button to refresh the cache instantly, but that would mean you would have to go to it every time you made a change. Rod

  • Hi there, Eric is right in that linking through other authoritative pages to your product can help increase the rankings and traffic to that page. Generating links to the domain generally can also indirectly help individual pages rank better as well. Here are some specific ways that you may be able to generate links to either your product page directly or to other pages: Check for people linking to broken pages on your website. You can check Mozscape and filter by 404 pages to find these. if you do find any, you can reach out to the people who link to get them to change it or you can 301 redirect to another relevant page. If you use images on your product page or use your company logo, use a Google reverse image search to look for people using these images but not linking to you. Generate content ideas for use-cases of your product. So you can create things like buying guides or long-form information guides that can support the product. You can use tools such as Huballin and Answer the Republic to find inspiration for these kind of ideas. Use a tool like Buzzsumo to find what your competitors are doing and how they're generating links and social shares. I wrote a blog post on this a few months ago which you can read here. I hope that helps! Paddy

  • Hi Bas! Great Question! Its mainly depends on the links you have. If the back-links are authoritative and people visited your website using those links they will defiantly help in index the pages and pass the link juice although they are year old. But if those links does not have such significance then it might not help!
