  • Thanks for your insight there Martjin, super helpful. Yes, the Google drive was what I thought we'd use if there was no SEO  advantage to having people view/download on our site.

  • I'd slap some big Adsense on it and enjoy!   I believe that one off topic page will not hurt anything - especially if the page is an outstanding example of content for its topic. I know sites that publish on a wide range of content and have fantastic rankings.  These sites were once single topic,  then departed with a single page that struck gold - and then started plowing that field into a hundred pages,  and soon ranking #1 for the single-word root keyword.    They then hit gold on a second topic, and a third.  Now these sites have diverse branches but have found ways to interrelate the topics. I don't think that Google has a problem with conflation.  You might even make Google think that the two topics are complementary.

  • My only counter argument to that would be "What if someone who is a regular wanted to go back and see an old one but couldn't' find it because they are all named the same?"

  • It's tough to tell without seeing the help & marketing pages. How similar are they? Generally, these are different as marketing pages generally talk more about user benefits where help pages are more tutorial based. It's likely as long as they aren't 1:1 matches (or very close) that they can both exist. In the rare event that the help center pages are an exact duplicate of existing marketing site pages, then in theory you should be able to 404/redirect those pages and not worry about them. If there's already another version of the page on the site than there's no need to manage it in two places. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

  • Hey, this is exactly what I experience with cv formasi. During the first crawl of the campaign, the tool returned normal almost all links visible compared to GSC. Then it almost stopped working. I wonder if it is something to do with the number of pages set to crawled when you just create a campaing. From now on I always set the number of pages maximum, see if it works

  • I always advise to go with subfolders if you can for SEO purposes if at all possible but I understand that sometimes for technical reasons, subdomains are necessary.

  • Hi there, First of all, its a mistake to think that when searching with _site:  _operator, the first results are the most important nor the more relevant. Google has said a few times that we shouldn't rely that much on what that search in terms of what's being shown. Blocking search results with robots.txt wont be of help, as it will not remove already indexed pages and cant prevent for new pages to be indexed (if there's an external link to a robots.txt blocked page, google can still index it) it'll only prevent Googlebot from discovering new ones FROM YOUR SITE. Again, i'd try to dig deeper to understand where are the links to internal searches that google is finding. Googlebot will not do any search in your site. The thing with GSC, might be related to quite a few reasons. I cant say much because I don't know any more specifics, but from what you are telling me it looks like you are getting impressions in searches that you don't relate to your site and that land on pages that google is noindexing. Yeah im repeating the obvious, hehe.  In my experience, Google can have these strange behaviours. You know, there are cases when a page is canonicalized, but it can still be shown in SERPS. Dont ask me why, but it happens. It takes a little time to google fully replace it with the correct one. I'd wait a little longer to see how Google is handling them. I don't know if im helping you.  it kinda took me a few minutes to understand/process what you wrote and come up with an answer. Please, feel free ask again or comment on my reply if I misunderstood something. Best luck, Gaston

  • Hi there, This is exactly the case where Google recommends to use canonical, on this resource page: Consolidate duplicate URLs - google Search Console Help. Keep in mind that canonicals are efficient when different URLs have the same content. I'd avoid redirections because that would be hurt user experiences when navigating the website, and we know that hurting UX upsets Google. Hope it helps Best luck. Gaston

  • Hi there, No, there is use for ranking on google. There might be other services/tools that use that, but as that tag was created specifically for search engines, I'd wouldn't spend any more time than reading this answer As said in this google webmasters blog: Googles does not use metakeywords tag in web rankings. Hope it helps. Best luck.
