Has anyone ever tested to see if having an ads.txt file provided any SEO lift?
Martijn, I shouldn't have called it a "secret weapon" because an ads.txt file is public. My question is really that given that Google looks at everything, it would be surprising if the search algos didn't check to see if there's an ads.txt file on the site, and give that some weight. Anyone else looked at this or tested it?

Homepage Ranking Issue
Hey Jamie! If you're a new site this might take time. Essentially Google needs to recognize your site as an entity which it may not have done yet. This might take some time as users might need to send Google signals by querying "home on the swan" and then adjusting their query and navigating to your result. With our clients, we've seen this can take some time but generally Google will start to rank new sites over time as it collects more behavioral data. In the meantime, you could try other things to improve your optimization: Add to the "Organization" schema you have on the home page and ensure the name property uses "Home On The Swan" Internally link to the home page using the anchor text "Home On The Swan" Generate backlinks using the text "Home On The Swan" P.S. I noticed that your site uses Shopify. This guide might also be helpful for you: https://moz.com/blog/shopify-seo

Subdirectory, Hreflang, Canonicalization and Google Console
In response to question 1, yes but you should also include your root as the "X-Default" hreflang (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en). In respoonse to question 2, yes but the problem with this approach is that you will not be able to target the root domain, otherwise it will impact all your subdirectories too. So, you'll have to leave the root domain untargeted. There are pros/cons, but this is one of the cons of using subdirectories instead of subdomains.

When using external links for onsite optimization, should they be follow or nofollow links?
If your site hasn't bad reputation and you have no problem into help increase the authority of the site you link to, AND: 1. The sites belongs to your niche: do follow. 2. You trust in their SEO practices and you think they are not penalized by Google: do follow. If is your competitor or you are not interested into help them earn authority and rank: no follow. If the site is not related at all with your content (for example you just want to promote other sites, profiles or platforms you own): no follow. Make look the links natural, specially do follow ones. Be careful using the keyword on it's own in the anchor text. I hope it helps.

How to NOT keyword stuff in long form content
Listen, the robots are so smart, so if you made it natural, without forcing, then they will know it, no worries. You can also use some synonyms for the keyword. Anyways if you're still worried there are SEO analyzers out there that can check your text for free. I don't want to put links here but they are so easy to find. Just type on Google. Hope it helps

My last site crawl shows over 700 404 errors all with void(0 added to the ends of my posts/pages.
In the HTML of your pages there's an <a href="">link with "javascript:void(0". It appears that Google is getting into those. Is possible, remove that link or take it out of an</a> <a href="">element. Otherwise, you should be OK, those pages should 404. </a>

Are Multiple Page Titles hurting my rankings
Overall, it does look like Google is choosing a logical title for your pages: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Abackyardadventures.com&oq=site%3Abackyardadventures.com&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.3543j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&num=100 Your other titles are in the so Google probably wont' use them as the actual title tag. Overall, you're probably OK but might want to have a developer change it if possible.

Why Aren't My Service Pages Ranking ?
Hey Scott! 1. Yes, exactly you will ideally use your geo-specific keywords in your title tags, meta description and on page content. For instance, you can see that some of your competitors are doing just that: https://swfna.com/specialized-services/ 2. For the structured data, you might need to have a developer look into that. Where you make the change depends on how the schema is coded. Let me know if you have any other questions: chris.long@gofishdigital.com
