  • I'm always dubious of duplicate site content, automatically generated content is a bad idea. Google will pick up on that like shot. I would guess it's a combination of both duplicate content and automatically generated content. I have yet to see an actual penalty for duplicated on site content, although I guess it could happen.  But what I have seen is that Google will be less favourable to your site if there is a substantial amount of duplicate content.

  • Hi ThreeShips! I agree with Vetty. If migrating to a new domain AND to HTTPs, I would recommend doing this in phases. It's the safest way to do this without causing a major problem with the site. If something with the migration were to go wrong, it will be much easier to spot and correct the problem than if you did both migrations at the same time.

  • Hi Joe, When running a scan to find error pages or bad internal linked pages, what type of scan parameters do you use? This could make sense on why I'm seeing these strange 404 error strings, such as http://website.com/ http://www.website.com/cubic-zirconia-1/ Ideas, have you seen this before? run a Screaming Frog scan

  • Hi There! I'm hoping watching some of Rand's Whiteboard Friday's will give you a clearer sense of how to organize this, but, in brief: You should never assume Google knows the location of a business, nor the locations it serves. It is up to you to point that out via content and links, but not to go overboard. There is nothing worse than reading text like this: Our Chicago Housecleaning service help customers in Chicago keep their Chicago homes clean with good housekeeping practices special to Chicago customers. Not saying you'd write something like that, but if you start looking at local business websites, you'll run into agonies like this one. So, the answer is, no, when writing in natural language, you're not going to append your city name to every keyword you are focusing on. Highly recommend watching those WB Fridays for more on this. What you want to avoid here is unnatural links. Typically, people linking to you are not naturally going to use your preferred text. Highly recommend you read through this as you plan your link strategy: https://moz.com/blog/the-anatomy-of-a-link I reached out to Dan Leibson at Local SEO Guide and he said the problem you are encountering most likely stems from not first making a copy of the sheet. You might be trying to edit the original, instead, which Dan says folks sometimes do by accident. Here are the instructions: This tool is really simple to use: Make a copy of the sheet for you to use yourself (don’t ask me for edit access, I’m not going to give it to you) Put the city you want to localize for (or zip code) in cell A4 Put the keywords you want to localize in A10+ Click the “Generate Keywords” button Check the new tab that has the localized versions of all your keywords Hope this helps, and good luck!

  • I'm not sure about the 3rd request but for the first one I would suggest you implement the schema via a json script on the pages that has the information about what is showing. The json for each movie would look something like: from: https://schema.org/MovieTheater I would also suggest using this testing tool to check if what you implemented is working: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool

  • Hi Alex http://domain.com http://www.domain.com https://domain.com https://www.domain.com Are all 4 diferent pages, also may happen to be the home page of a web site. So OSE might get different information for each of them. I assume that you have your www redirected to the non-www version. In that case, there's a high chance that there are few or none links pointing to that page (www) and it's logical for OSE to score it different. Have I made myself clear? I tried  making it general Best Luck. GR.

  • I recommend you keep the title long as is and let google cut it based on the keywords searched. Editing those titles to a certain length and keep them making sense isn't scalable. long title tag = text gets cut off in serps, not worse for SEO but worse for CTR page heading and page title not matching won't hurt your SEO.

  • Set up 301 Redirects on pages which are similar. I.E. Personal Trainers redirects to Who's Who page for example. Once the traffic has started to go to the new site Google will start to list the new pages. And Visitors will start to realise it's the new site. Also put a big graphic on the old site saying we've moved to and link to the new site. Do a search on a search engine for the old domain and ask sites to change the links, Ensure that any well ranked pages are moved across to the new site, (if it worked before it could work again!) Once your traffic has fizzleed out on the old site redirect the domain as a 301 to the new site.

  • Hi While I have never used the service - it seems pretty expensive to me. For one link on a site with DA30+ its going to cost £80. Especially as from the looks of it you can't decide which sector the link is on - seems very grey / black hat to me, where its all about having a link. So you could sell car parts and get a link on a site that's about kitchens, might be DA30+ but not very relevant. Google knows where users click and will be putting more weight behind those metrics rather than website scoring metrics. We usually look to get links for our clients where potential customers are that can drive traffic and sales as well as a ranking benefits. While its probably more hard work than buying a link, its more natural, will give you greater benefits and you don't risk the chance of a Google penalty. Thanks Andy

  • Thanks for being so thorough with your answer! I'll have our tech team take a look at the markup. We used to have our review content embedded as part of the html code and I've heard that increases crawl frequency and was also easy for search engines to understand. Now I think we  might be using AJAX which apparently causes confusion for crawl bots.

  • Some people write content that explains how to select the product, how to maintain it, demonstrations of how to use it.  These are great for attracting links.  DIY sites are the best examples of this type of content.  These article pages, if done well, can attract links, pull traffic, and ads on those pages send visitors to your sales pages.  Or, you can offer items for sale on these pages and those sales will come after your content has inspired the person to buy.
