  • Hey Kurt, I'm able to replicate exactly what you are seeing, Kurt. I'm in CA. so, this might potentially influence the results I'm seeing vs. what Ira is seeing. I have seen both versions of the Local Finder view, but am not clear on what Google is doing with the test of both versions, and I'd never noticed before this difference of versions being triggered by plural vs. singular results. I'm actually doing some other searches now (shoe store vs. shoe stores, dentist vs. dentists with city modifiers) and I am NOT able to replicate the singular vs. plural difference you discovered with the church search. What I do see is that, for that church search, the radius of the results appears to be the same, and that it's quite interesting that Google is only showing reviews for the singular search. Sorry not to have more insight on this, but it definitely looks like good old Google testing things out for the search you've been doing. Could change by the time you wake up tomorrow. It makes me realize that I'd like to see a post on differences like this in the Local Finder view. I can't recall seeing one. Thanks for raising the question.

  • I'd go for the EMD, for the reasons stated above, since you've gone to the expense of buying an EMD. But, strictly speaking, if you market your product correctly people would search for that, not the company name. Also, Goole auto-corrects mistyped domains, so a hard to spell wors is no longer an issue.

  • Keyword rich anchor text on external sites will help your search rankings. But it's also against Google's rules.  If an unnaturally high percentage of the links to your site have the same anchor text, you run the risk that Google will ignore their value or will penalize your site.  My suggestion would be to get some links with keyword rich anchor text but also get a lot of other links that don't have keyword rich anchor text so your overall link profile looks natural.

  • Hi! I don't recommend them at all. I found Quuu Promote the beginning of this year and I opted-in so they charged my credit card $49 every single month. Then I realized after that if you don't use your credit, they will take it away after 60 days. So what I did is promote a number of our blog posts but then they were REJECTING them. The sent one email and because they use an automated platform, Gmail puts them in Spam and you don't even realize it. So in short, they took my credits anyway regardless if they see I tried to redeem it. Also, their platform is very bad, they don't tell you where the credits were used or had been taken away. See the attached screenshot. I canceled the service but they still had my CC on file so they kept charging it and 10 months later, i saw I had a $400 charge from them. OH GEEZ! Also, the results were not amazing. One of my posts went through a while back before I opted in on a monthly service. In my own experience Quuu%20Promote%20Invoices.jpg?dl=0

  • Hi, This is a pretty simple fix - all you need to do is add a canonical tag that points to the root version of the URL. For example, on https://www.mrnutcase.com/en-GB/designer/?CaseID=1128510&CollageID=21&ProductValue=3364, add this canonical tag:

  • It sounds like you may be using the WP-Print plugin. This issue has been resolved by others by regenerating the permalink structure. Go to WP-Admin -> Settings -> Permalinks -> Save Changes Let me know if that works for you. Best of luck.

  • Hi Samuel, In general, URLs should not contain any unnecessary folders (delimiters). In your first example, the /b/ is not needed since you've already got a /blog/ folder. In the second example, that page appears to be main site content, you don't need any additional folders unless they're specifying a general topic under which you'll be adding more specific pages. You're also burying your keywords a one step further into the URL than is needed. Google says they don't put too much weight on URL structure, but in my experiences, well planned and logical URL structures perform better. It's not going to have a huge impact on your rankings, but it will help to some degree.

  • I think Google has documented this pretty clear on the page describing how to Use a sitemap to indicate alternate language pages. NOt only for languages, but also combinations of languages and regions i.e. Switzerland (de-ch), Ireland (en-ie) and so on. The downside on this is that must create a separate url element for each URL.

  • Hi, Moving sites with more then 10.000 pages can sometimes take up to months. Usually the biggest chunk of pages gets easily redirected and removed from the index but small pages that get less attention in your information architecture are harder to find for Google and so it will take longer for them to remove them. • Thanks for all the responses! At the moment I am serving the 410's using the .htaaccess file as I removed the actual pages a while ago. The pages don't show in most searches, however, two of them do show up in some instances under the sitelinks which is the main pain. I manually asked for them to be removed using 'remove urls' however that only last a couple of months and they are now back. So I guess the best way is to recreate the pages and insert a noindex? Thanks again for everyone time, it's much appreciated.

  • Hello, It is very common for keyword rankings to fluctuate almost constantly, for a few reasons: search engines are constantly updating their ranking algorithms; rankings are based on user behavior-based signals like how often a link is clicked, bounce rate, etc., and those things are never constant; depending on your location and previous search results and actions, search engines will change the results you see personally; and on and on. It's better to look at trends in your aggregate rankings rather than individual rankings, and also to focus on things like providing great content and building an authoritative linking profile than to focus on individual rankings on a day to day basis. Overall, I do think you will see more stability when search engines have more data about how users interact with your site, but I know that the fluctuations in rankings will never stop. They will likely become less drastic, though.

  • Seems to be getting more and more common, I've especially noticed it over the past few weeks. Remember that browser plug-ins are still using cookies and localisation information based on previous searches and data. I had it happened to me last week with a keyword, the first search came up at position 33 I clicked on it to check the link, with a second search a few hours later it came up at position 4, quite a big jump! I guess that aircon installation is very localised compared to say an e-commerce store, so I guess Google will be working very hard to provide the best result for the customer weighing locally relevant results heavier. Your safest thing to do is to use a good online system and make sure you set it for the relevant country.  Clearing the cache each time prior to doing a search should also help.
